Discussion / Re: RA2 Bot Hall of Fame
« on: June 01, 2011, 09:33:07 AM »
Alright, so I have read over suggestions and come up with this plan of action.

First off, I will reset the Hall of Fame, and do away with honorable mentions. Following R0B0's proposition, I will break the Hall into two categories. One for landmark or innovation robots and the other for notable tournament participants. I would prefer if everyone gave their reasoning ( a short sentence or two) for why they voted for a particular bot.

As Sonyn_Resetti proposed, I will start off with 10 nominees per voter, and should there be subsequent updates, only 5 nominees per voter from then on.

How does this plan sound to you guys?

It needs some controlled movement...

I agree you system would help guarantee a more accurate and compact nomination.

Restart the list

up to 5 nominees per user with justification ?

If justification holds they go on a list.. once we are happy with all the nominees everyone select say 3? off the list and then we work out the most voted for Hall of fame?

So if I am understanding this correctly, only 1 or 2 robots get in? And we restart the list?

About the havoky-ness, so far as I can see, no havoking on its own

Lucky! In my game that sort of chassis would never fly, especially with copal drive.

Official Rules:

  • People are to nominate 10 bots via PM to me.
  • A voting thread will then be made with a poll that contains all the nominees.
  • The top 10 bots will then be inducted, with discussion being hopefully plentiful.

There, plain and simple. I currently have 3 votes so far and would like to have more.

Deadline is July 10th.

Well I squeeze out 2 kg with the + sign.  Namely by trimming the top to the minimum 1x1 while retaining the 1.5x1 at the bottom.  Give this chassis a run if you have time.

Very nice. I would not have thought to angle the sides. The chassis is sizeable enough to avoid havoking, but doesn't offer much of an advantage over a hexagon (the 2kg can only by applied to a srimech like you put, but my version has never been flipped).

On an AW though the chassis allows for a wide ant wheel to be put on, so it gives it more speed.

Why would a hexagon give more stability?  It should have the same amount of ways to "tip over", if each end's width = hexagon side.

You can use that 1 kg to boost to titanium 1 if you really wanted the HP.

In testing, the plus sign was far less stable and flipped on impacts easier than the plus-sign chassis. Could it be some minor havoking? I couldn't tell. At best the plus sign is going to be comparable to the hexagon, so I'm not sure of any benefit if I were to switch.

For avoiding havok, can you get away with a + shape chassis instead of a hexagon?

Form testing I just preformed it looks like I might... but the change in chassis is only going to get me 1 extra kg, and also decrease my stability and HP. After all, the hexagon is big and stable, with a weight of only 7 kg.

That would be a "Tuna Can Spinner" in Battlebots terms..

or a HS..

But no shell there Urjee

Still looks good..

Baaahhhh! It's close enough!!!!!!11!11 Anyways, I do agree that it isn't technically a shell spinner. It is one in spirit though and preforms that exact same way.

BSG's are surprisingly good. I think it's because of their high initial speed.

Hmmm... I stand corrected. Though how many flips did it take to get that bot OOTA?

Great looking bot, but you want to get at least 2 Small JXRs on this for good flipping power.

653
You didn't and I accept that. It's just bending the rules to a level I myself am not comfortable with. That's why I'm a bit annoyed but since JB accepted it, it's fine.

Oh, well as long as you don't think it is truly unrealistic then I'm fine. Believe me I am also annoyed by it, especially when I built a better version without that problem.

654
The bit where if it was grinded down, another bit of the bot would not be attachable. And if it still was you are simply adding an unrealistic bit to a chassis for more HP which is unsporting..

Point me to the realistic rule that I broke.

655
DSL is realistic as it "can it be built" not "would it work if it was built". I'm still annoyed about the chassis height thing.

What part of the DSL realistic rule does the "idea of grinding down the top of the chassis to allow the disk to go by" break? There were no components in there and moving objects are allowed to move through static ones, so long as a hole can be cut. And a rather large hole could indeed be cut in the chassis.

656
They don't have spinning weapons on them, though, everything's static. If you gave a 1WD Melty Brain robot an enormous spinning bar to use, it would have no control whatsoever. I don't think a 1WD Melty Brain Spinner of any type would be an effective or controllable machine IRL. Let's just wait for Joe to post up some more videos, I can't be bothered arguing at the minute.

As long as you have a strong enough drive motor and a weak enough weapon motor it could probably work. It might not be all that effective, but neither are popups IRL.

657
I'm perfectly fine with the melty brain, it's the one wheel I don't get. Melty brain works by speeding up and slowing down the drive motors, but if there's only one wheel, surely the bot'll just spin round and round in erratically slowing circles.

I honestly don't know much about melty brain drive, all I know is that there are 1 wheel varieties (like the one pictured above). So not only is it realistic, it is found IRL.

How exactly is that a walker? Doesn't it just run on its servos?

659
(Nothing against you Urjee, but 1-wheel SnS with Melty Brain is just pushing "realistic" waaaaaaay too far.)

Alright now this makes me a tad bit confused. You picked like the one attribute of my bot (melty-brain) that is actually found in real life bots. http://www.teamvelocityrobotics.com/Death%20By%20Translation.htm :P

Hello again. I am on a roll here:

]

Radial Disturbance is a BW FSS with 8 flail razors. He doesn't havok and possesses sloooowww controlled movement. With all those razors, Radial Disturbance is able to defeat every single NAR AI BW (yes, even the rammers).

Any comments would be appreciated. :D
