Step 1) Take a look at R4 (the BBEANS 5 splash will do).
Step 2) Notice the two long white things coming out the top? Those are the "ears." Step 3) ????? Step 4) Profit. 644
Stock Showcases / Re: Noodle's Showcase« on: August 25, 2010, 11:44:21 PM »
Instead of the iron spike (I'd risk the exposed T connector rather than eating weight to protect it) what about R4 blade ears? They do help expose the undersides of most opponents and allow the weapons to generate more speed causing more damage (notice I'm telling you the exact opposite of what FOTEPX did?). If you have the weight, try those out. If you don't have enough weight don't go out of your way though; four ramplates and a wide wedge is better.

How about no lock, and less idiocy. I know you guys don't like getting accused of being outright dumb, but you sure make it easy sometimes xD
Overall, I'm not really as concerned as some of you (iiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaaAAAAAAAANNNN) seem to be. Yeah there are people that are annoying, yeah there are people that do nothing, but those types have always existed. Even on the old forums. With time though, we forget and only remember the important people and those who have done more than their fair share of innovating and contributing. There are also people I see stepping up in the near future to fill the void left by leaving vets, and I see people who have already stepped up playing important roles in the community. Focusing on the negatives will put you in a rubber room - just try to look at the bright side once in a while. It makes things much nicer. Fun fact: my first ever post was "noob here lol" Im not saying this is every single one of you but I can take a good guess that over 50% of you post something negative towards someone else at least once a week. BAWWWW HAZ I HURT UR FEELING? xP Don't worry, I only argue with REAL MEN >:O 648
Off-Topic Discussion / Re: worried about the forums direction.« on: August 25, 2010, 04:35:37 AM »Surely it's a good thing for tons of 12 year olds to join? The only reason why the community isn't as vibrant (I wouldn't say "dying." We've been "dying" for at least six years) anymore is because Battlebots and Robot Wars aren't on network television anymore. It really has nothing to do with us or the community, just a general lack of interest in the subject. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that many of the people who have been kicking around for a while discovered Battlebots or Robot Wars first, and then found RA2 where they could live out their dreams of robotic dominance vicariously through a PC game. People like that are getting rarer and rarer. It also dosen't help that we've pushed the learning curve for both Stock and DSL so steep that many new members don't stand a chance in tourneys. I remember that Ian and I placed second in his Tag Team Tourney really soon after I had joined - I was still a n00b, but I could compete head-to-head with some of the best. That just doesn't happen anymore. I'm not as concerned with the direction of the forums as some seem to be, I will say this though: since the move to GTM's from the Atari forums and the subsequent exposure DSL gained, it feels like the community has become a bit unfocused. I'm sure you've all heard by now how each individual tourney was a big deal, and how they were rare and that two at the same time was unheard of. But when someone was hosting a tourney, it felt like everybody in the community was following it, even those who weren't participating. Also, the discussion of DSL was completely minimal. Even though it had been released, GTM's was basically a small offshoot that played the mod. Everything on the main forums was Stock, Stock, Stock. And I don't even remember an off-topic section xD At the end of the day though, Frezal pretty much has it right: Who gives a sh**? It's a 7 year old bargain bin game. Just be glad that a community even exists. 649

@ JoeBlo:
Have you ever seen a HS with 8 sledgehammers? Have you ever seen a SnS with 8 sledgehammers? Have you ever seen ANYTHING with 24 razor spikes in real life? I haven't. I respect that that's the way you want to do things, and after some preliminary use I like the tabs and I'm glad you came up with the idea, but not allowing crossover is completely idiotic. Your argument that "these parts aren't used on these bots IRL" is not only flimsy in itself, but it's outright wrong. Sledgehammers have been used on VS before, Blade Runner was a whipper with spikes, and only permitting two types of wheels per class is absurd. There are no such rules binding real life competitions, so to assert that there are and then enforce them does the exact opposite of what you really want. It's not more realistic, it's less so. However, I have to say I'm really impressed with this beta. Exceptional UI is exceptional, and chucking your opponents around is a ton o' unholy fun :D I'm not sure why you're not taking any criticism though. This beta is the best chance you will ever get to recieve both positive and negative feedback from the community, and consequently get a feel for what players do and don't find fun. Then, you'll have the information you'll need to make Backlash the shiniest and bestest mod evar. Long in short, instead of "no moaning 'cuz it's not done," go for "moan until your lungs fall out so I know what to fix." We should probably continue this discussion in the First Blood thread since we're (okay, mainly me) hijacking Freeziez's thread xD 650

I did this with the very first bot that I posted on the RA2 forums (a LW popup) and found that the wedge tended to flip over and be useless, and when it was the right side up it rarely outwedged anything. Basically, axel wedges suck.

The slightly off-centre wedge bothers me, and I doubt that non-HPZ drive is quick enough to get under spinners or outwedge other MWs.
Nice splashes though :D 656

I'm seeing a lot of lightning spikes being used recently. Did Naryar mess with those in NarAI, or are they just better than we give them credit for?
Also, SCRAP STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF. IT'S WEIRD AND MAKING ME UNCOMFORTABLE. 657
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Urjaks Showcase« on: August 24, 2010, 04:51:54 PM »
I couldn't get AtaxiA to be very effective unless it juggled, which requires speed and wedginess. Also, you have some needless extenderwork that can be cleaned up with a couple of multi extenders.
