Stock Showcases / Re: Lightning S.'s Stock Showcase
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:11:51 AM »
Your team seems pretty solid with the weakest being bear hug 2 and the rest are all solid bots that shouldn't lose much. The strongest member of your team is probably the Dizzy Beetle 7.

LOL I love that AW, very nice  . It's really good to see someone building and participating in stock stuff as much as you are.

You've all had 10 days to prepare for a due date so don't complain if it's not long enough. Roughly 25 days is more then enough to build the bots you needed to enter or even to build your full team.

Do you guys need a full month?

I already talked to you about this in messages, BOTM is not about who wins it's about a mix of a number of things..

1. Combat effectiveness.
2. Uniqueness.
3. Splash work.

1. Yours obviously is the most effective bot of the 4.
2. Yours is a rammer, that's all there is to it. Most the time if a basic rammer enters any other weight class BTOM it would lose too.
3. Yours was neatly presented but so was #3.

You have to understand that just because you build the biggest possible brick doesn't mean you win by default, people like myself want to see more unique designs. If your AW Tick went up against this UHW in a battle the UHW wins all the time but in a BOTM contest your AW is much more unique and appealing to most people.

I don't doubt how tough this was to build for you, heck I don't even try to build SHW. You had 2 options, go for the biggest brick possible or create something that weighs less but is more unique.

You won with the brick but you could have won by more with something like your UHW trap bot because it's combat effective and much more unique in design.

In regards to it not being able to be lifted, if you remember Robo Zone 2 my AW drum with 1 pink and a RAD weapon motor actually lifted up the box! from memory the box is a middleweight so I have doubts that your bot can't be lifted by anything else.

You really need to understand that I and others wanted to see unique designs, that's why people usually build SHW-UHW in the first place... because they can't build what they want in the normal weight classes. If Absolute Chaos entered a BOTM against something more unique like Click's Slaying Mantis it would lose too.

It's in the Junkyard I believe.

Time expired!

Still only 4 teams, need at least 16 teams to make the AI pack happen.

No it isn't, look at all the cool stuff Thyrus and you and SKBT and everyone else is doing. You can make really cool stuff with IRL. I've only seen a few similar robots, where most DSL bots look the same.

A lot of effective stock stuff is the same because there are commonly cloned designs that perform really well where as all IRL is designed to just look cool. People can still make unique stock stuff and some can make unique and effective stock stuff.

Not my best, lacks front protection but the weapons are tough and capable of some nice hits. I had a couple of failed entries:

"Ninja Cat Claws" was designed to be an angled down top rammer that would attack the tops of other bots, I just couldn't get the balance right on the bot to match the higher ramming weapons.

"Throwing Star" was going to be sort of like a mini accident waiting to happen with an axle weapon (spinning vertically) dealing damage to the top of the other bot.

Grats Venko and well done Lightning S. I don't think anyone would have guessed #1 was yours and some thought it was NFX or Fracture.

That was just a list of the winning bot types so far, it shows good variety so far and we will add to the variety with another bot type no matter who wins.

Existing Games / Is this Blizzards biggest april fools joke yet?
« on: March 31, 2013, 06:38:22 PM »
http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/

What do you guys think? We have only recently received info on this, Blizzard has a history of great april fools jokes but this one getting started before april makes me wonder if it counts

Here are some previous april fools jokes from them:

The Bard, was revealed to us as a new class that would use guitar hero controls.

Mount customisation:

and my fav, the molten core game:

Some of these jokes have actually made it into the game like the downloadable molten core game (not on the 2600 sadly) and the now playable race, the pandaren.

No matter who wins we will be adding a new AW bot type to Re-stocked   we have these:

1.Wammer.
2.Rammer.
3.Axle "slapper"/hammer/rammer hybrid.
4.SnS or axle HS or axle HS/rammer hybrid.

and they are all pretty competitive so far  :gawe:

I'm surprised. I can't believe people would want to make Trov's and mods work harder just for sh**s and giggles.

Can we all just grow up and play the game this forum is meant for instead of taking a piss on it?
