I'm getting a razor because using my knife as one isn't the smartest idea in the world..

Only one?  Tell your parents you NEED MOAR.  :P

Existing Games / Re: What games are you getting for Christmas?
« on: December 23, 2011, 09:18:28 PM »
The games I am getting are all for 3DS
1. Mario Kart 7
2. Zelda Orcorina of Time 3D
3. Formula One 2011 3D
4. Super Mario 3D Land.

If you know what you're getting for Christmas, you're doing it wrong.

I put LoZ Skyward Sword and Cave Story 3D on my list but not sure if I'm getting either.  Since what I REALLY want is money toward a DSLR camera + 100mm macro lens.

So that means That aron is invincible unless you have another ground/rock/steel type? woah.

Or if you just don't attack it directly... use poison or stealth rock damage or something so it can't use sturdy.  Or put it to sleep.  Or best yet, use a Ghost-type so you can't be hit with Endeavor.

Still, an awesome strategy.  Probably the best use of Endeavor I've seen.

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas
« on: December 23, 2011, 08:39:42 PM »
You say you're "too lazy" to reskin components, when replicas are all about getting it down to the most minute details. If you're not willing to try making a good looking replica, there's really no point in trying.
/my opinion
If you don't like it, you can just be quiet.
Jonzu, you didn't even put 4 slots on canonball...

Look closer, it only has 3 slots.  The middle one is just wider. :trollface

Also, I have to agree with Jonzu that reskinning components is a major pain since you have to edit the gmf and duplicate the txt file and stuff.  I hate doing it for regular bots and I think most of them don't absolutely need it.

Giving the chassis a good skin, however, is a lot easier and there's really no excuse for not skinning it.  I know you (Jonzu) can use Photoshop/Gimp/Paint.net because you make candy splashes for a lot of your bots.  Just put some of the splash effort into the skin and behold skinning magic!

As for the replicas, the first one needs to be flatter and would look good with the yellow ant wheels.  The second one needs to be a bit wider but is otherwise spot-on.

« on: December 23, 2011, 08:18:24 PM »
Wait seriously?  You've been building bots (good bots too) this long and you don't know how to do that?

Look in the preview window of the component you're attaching.  There's a bunch of screw icons that represent the attachment points.  Click on those and then you can use them for attaching the component.

OK, put it on the bot exchange.

With all that weight on the Perms, though, are the weapons not a little bit slow?

Nope.  They slow down quickly when they hit something but they get going at a good clip.  (Fun fact: the inner discs in the disc stacks are hollow to save weight.)

Originally I had 12kg teeth on the vertical discs but then they did spin too slow.

Full 5000kg UHW?  Full 5000kg UHW.

Basically it's Seek with a bunch more stuff added.  This was going to be my COTT bot until I thought about making Hide.  It's supposed to beat flippers without relying on a wedge.  The side discs flank the enemy and rip off wheels, and the middle discs rip up the actual flippers.  A hidden row of razors under the bot also causes damage when flippers hit them.  If it can survive about 3-4 flips, opposing flippers should be quite heavily damaged and it will be easier to avoid going OOTA on further flips until the enemy is destroyed.  That's the theory, anyway.  I haven't tested it against any UHW flippers.

10 ants, 10mm steel armor, and if I got a dollar for every tooth I'd be a very rich man.

Now why is MNB defending the Bible; I wouldn't have pegged him for a Christian.  Just playing devil's advocate?  (Or God's advocate, as I suppose it would be in this case.)

Also arguing about religion is pointless.  We're all too set in our beliefs to be convinced one way or the other from posts on an internet forum.

I will say I am Christian because there is plenty of evidence for God's love if you look with an open mind, and because existence without God or heaven seems to me rather short, brutal, and utterly meaningless, and I'll leave it at that.  Further elaboration would only turn into another pointless argument.

:realmad(  I literally JUST made a bot with that exact same weapon concept!

...Oh well.  Mine is still somewhat different.  Enough to still be original.

Nice bot, though I agree the placement of the hammers is a little awkward for IRL.

Are the irons and sledges sort of like a trademark of the Princess series?  So they don't look like every other shell spinner out there?

And Novarupta looks fearsome.  What if you scooted the bottom halfsheets forward, so instead of sticking out the back they acted as forward stabilizers?

What is that?  Cruiserweight?  It can't possibly be a MW and there's no way it weighs 800kgs unless it has 10mm steel and tons of batteries.

VS is looking very good, but the flipper looks like spinner food.

Needs a blue-hued skin to go with the weapons and extenders.  I reckon it would look pretty cool then.

Some trappers in the front to keep bots from climbing on top of it will also help greatly against spinners.

it sure ain't gonna last 2 minutes.

Well, from the looks of it, neither will the opponent so  :p

Really nice bot.  I'm curious how good it is against popups.

Are you still using the teams people sent before?

My Iron Team might be is pretty out of date compared to modern DSL building.  (Not like I can build good bots compared to modern DSL building anyway, but still... I do have an update to Irony I could send.)

In Badnik's defense that did look like a bit of an unfair loss there.  It's hard to tell what happened due to the camera being in the wrong place, but it looks like Tracer Bullet was flipped by the saws exploding out of their slots.  Of course, odds are Crimson Blades would've worn it down in spikeball mode eventually anyway...

Scrap also should've beat Mike if it wasn't for getting stuck on the spikes long enough to expose a flank.

Also, yay hammers!  Hoping I can repeat Craaig's victory in the SHW's.

All right, it took a bit longer than I thought but I got some bonus matches done.  Better late than never!

First we have a rumble with semifinalists Trollestia 2, Voulez-Vous, One Way Ticket, and X-Press.  These bots were chosen because they 1) didn't lose enough wheels or control boards to be eliminated, and 2) still had damaging weapons left.

Second, the promised match between first round losers Freakazoidberg and Overloaded Orbinaut 4:

Both matches are quite close!

Someone else has seen the light of that side hammer setup.

Having a wedge is pretty essential though.  It's almost impossible to outweapon an HS with a side hammer, and you can't hit their top or bottom either, which means you need to focus on killing wedges because that's the only thing you CAN kill (except rammers, but anything non-HS can beat a rammer).

And it's good to see something else than judge bursts on a vaguely IRL-ish bot. (I'm talking about the flipper, of course)

Yup, it just uses Judge gavels instead...  :trollface

Maybe you should use Hworf spikes for a similar look, but without making the bot overpowered.

DSL TC Showcases / Re: Nicsan's DSL Showcase (Mostly IRL) To Learn

It's just begging for some extenders going sideways from the front of the DSL bars to the sides of the Perm.  That would give it the extra bit of support it needs for good IRL (this is an IRL bot, right?)

Perhaps cut down on the back armor to get weight for this.
