Discussion / Re: Will we ever get to see BBEANS again?
« on: July 23, 2016, 01:08:34 PM »
I can't believe I signed up in the golden era and quietly left a month or so later.

Now that I'm really into this thing it feels like not many others are!

Another bbeans would be great! Or if yugi is planning something special to fill the void I'm all for getting behind that!
I saw your old stock thread now, not bad, also don't worry there are still people around(but I wonder what happened, did people get tired of the game after 6-8 years?) not as many but I can still see some great ones.

Wanted to reply earlier but looks like you two guys will be friendly rivals, looking forward to it.

Another Tournament by Thrackerzod? Must enter!
Ironforge will be fun, enjoying it way more than DSL, but think I'll have trouble with the names, having similar looking skins works too, right?

Modifications / Re: DSL Reborn AI
« on: July 23, 2016, 07:31:05 AM »
Nice, I'd maybe add "Redace's DSL Reborn AI" to the Title so it doesn't get confused with any other similar named packs.

I think this fixes the one biggest issues I had with DSL, for one how all the bots were like "oh I'm going to add skirts so your wedge will be useless", it really felt like they were all trying too hard, and some of the original designs were also completely thrown away instead of trying to keep it close to the original while still being a good bot. Of course this still changes some bots but most keep their original design and really look good in IRL, only critique would be that some of the skins don't look as good, at least on the image posted here.

Tried out some bots, the stock ones seem to be a bit slow(then again the other ones are slow as well, probably just a DSL thing) but otherwise look designed nicely, love how you added a flail to Stingray. Steel Yard Dogs Lightweight has armor around it, right? I saw something flying off and shortly after that the game crashed, probably a one time thing. Only other thing I noticed is how Emergency's Flipper sadly isn't as powerful as Stock's(or at least it didn't look like it would be that strong).

Didn't you mix up Stock and DSL in your tourney thread?
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=19111.msg705477#msg705477
That might have been the reason as well. Offtopic, but the tournament rules seem to be a bit undefined on that one, would be better if everything was clearly set from the beginning next time :P

Shows that I shouldn't write stuff once I'm tired. Think DSL was stuck in my memory because of the BBEANS thread.

Thanks guys. The splash made it look like it only had two ram plates and no wedges(so I thought it would be a beginner bot, driving a fast pusher and winning against all Starcore bots would sure be funny, even if it's a bit boring and kinda troll like).

(I'm not talking about Vortex CE)Does anyone know if that thing exists/if it's available somewhere and what's written on the top? Even if it's inefficient I'd love to try to win with that thing in V3's Arena.
Edit: Didn't notice the wedge before.

I really don't see any tournament having the hype or prestige that BBEANS did.

Click did say he was planning on having the next BBEANS tournament be DSL 2.2. This was right when 2.2 released, so things might have changed since then.
Yeah it's a bit sad that tournaments started to die down, would sure love if there are more around, then again I'm already working 4-5 days on a bot for one tournament just because of how unstable it is.

I was wondering about that as well, while I haven't had time to read the wiki articles about it, I guess it was the biggest yearly tournament hosted by Clickbeetle?

Stock Showcases / Re: RedAce's Stock Market

A bit late, probably should've checked this thread sooner.

Looks like Trimera is F.I.V.E.S little brother, liking it.

By the time I joined GTM that bot of the month was already over, definitely would've voted for that, sadly the other bot was a almost 1:1 pokemon replica and since it looked so close more people probably voted for it. Maybe the font and gradient used for them(using top bright bottom dark) would've helped it a bit, then again it was up against a pokemon bot.

Also like others mentioned it seems very similar to an earlier bot you built, sadly probably the only way to do such designs.
Don't let your hopes get down, and if possible I'd highly suggest entering it again.

Pin bots with the ramming axes, wear them down with the flamethrower, and finish them with the spinner (in theory)
Clickbeetle pretty much summed up F.I.V.E.S fights, the flamethrowers did epic damage and the other weapons finished the bots off.

Was hoping for it to win. Only negative things about the bot are how it can't move much after the front supports are gone, but that's common for stock angled VS spinner and how the game just had to ruin the texture mapping(seriously RA2? No idea why it looks fine in the components tab, personally I've started making my own ruler(similar to what Starcore v3? has, or doesn't, because it isn't in my dl'd V3) with certain set heights and those don't seem to cause that issue.

I guess you know the "Flamethrower glitch"(how RA2 only sets the range of a flamethrower once you activate it and only updates it once you deactivate it again), normally you'd only be able to use the flamethrowers for a very limited time, also unlike what the wiki and a few other sources say, they do need a bit of battery power to fire.

I've seen some of your earlier bots, gotta say that they were really good, I can understand how you want to be more unique, but your updated bots were good as well and you shouldn't feel bad for that, a bit of your own design and a new skin, boom, new bot.

I know, not the right place to ask but is there anything which helps with stacking(other than having a big screen size+zooming so you get more precise movement)? For me it's been mostly random so far and stacking Co2 bottles looks like a lot of trouble.

If 7 rule of breaker allowed?
Yes
Man, didn't know that when building my bot(and it most likely wouldn't help mine) wonder what broken things will be created.
RO7 doesn't really inhibit much for DSL-S designs. Are you thinking of serge's "haxmode" component intersection patch? Because that is banned.
True, had that thought as well, currently it doesn't allow for much but I can imagine this allowing a lot of broken things in the right hands. Also DSL-S? Just to make sure, we are building with stock rules(like mentioned in the main post) or did I miss something?

Living somewhere in Switzerland, it's right under germany and quite a lot of things are similar.
Cool, which city?
Sorry I don't like to go too much into personal details, let's just say in the german speaking part that's near germany.

Man those awards.
0.1 kg over the weight limit? :P good luck doing that on a heavyweight without antiballast/unlimited mass. Will vote tomorrow, probably something like this:

i am using it with windows xp already.
Then try to set the compatibility to something lower(XP SP1/2), also wouldn't recommend still using XP.

Still working on mine, probably have to do a new design as it works fine in botlab however in arenas it flips itself over(happens to most versions in the combat arena)

Stock Showcases / Re: Geice's Stock Showcase

Why are you trying to delete your showcase??
Ninja'd me to that. Also I guess HAX mode gets activated if a RAD(dunno why exactly that one, probably the weakest and as such has the glitchiest axle?) axle leaves the max sphere?

Stock Showcases / Re: Hi5's Stocktacular Bots
« on: July 21, 2016, 11:56:04 AM »
There was a Conundrum v3/4/5, but they were experiments of mounting the drum on different things, each of them were either mildly successful, or a downright fail, but none that I feel are worthy of a publish due to their lack of effectiveness or refinement.

Interestingly, I think the 3 wheel drive works incredibly well for conundrum as it is now, the extra pushing power over 2 wheels and saving that extra 42kgs for not being 4 wheel drive seems to strike a nice balance, power supply is never an issue either.

What I posted back when I first joined is better left forgotten I think  :laughing I saw Wen managed to find an old DSL showcase of mine (with 1 bot in it!), but again, I was primarily stock back then as well and I don't recall making anything note worthy...

Maybe that's what causes the spinning on my rammer... Maybe I'll post a video some point of it in action so you can see what I mean. I assumed because the wheels are perfectly aligned (due to being on a T connector) it shouldn't be a balancing issue, so maybe it is some weird glitch - And yes, it does take a fair while to load from the bot lab!

Thanks for the comment bud,
Aww, would've liked to see those, then again I can understand, have had many failed experiments as well. Hoped I could see how it changed from this short to a rather long chassis system.
Nice to see that the 3wd works great, I guess if this was in normal stock, people would most likely question what the 3rd drive had to do in that bot, having contests like that or doing experimental bots really shows people new stuff, so who knows, maybe we will see more 3wd stuff in the future?

I saw the DSL thread as well, dunno if it was via Wen's link(no idea where he posted it) the bot doesn't actually look bad, also you didn't upload any of the other stock bots?

Perfectly aligned wheels shouldn't cause trouble as far as I know, might want to try bigger wheels for testing. Hmm, so do the wheels cause the game to load that long or what? Something put on SnapperII's seems to cause it, we both had it happen with drive and HP Zteks work fine themselves.

You mean the random crashes or the one that keeps happening every time after completing a certain fight(probably the first one), there isn't really a fix but you could try run the game in XP Sp3 compatibility mode(do that via a right click on the .exe and select properties, in the new window go to compatibility settings and select XP SP3) think that reduces the amount of crashes that happen.
