I say go for it. You don't have the guaranteed prize (the action cam) and it would encourage others to participate.

:O

How are we still discovering bugs in this game???
We've had a lot of time to mess screw around with it.

It isn't quite the same as the normal axle loading glitch but it is cool none the less.

Though Bear Hug doesn't look as strong, it does a pretty good job of keeping to the theme.

Also, if I wasn't busy with the forum update, I would have made something for this...

The rep pages are part of an extension so I was aware of it but the missing tabs are an easy fix so I'll take care of that today.

Edit: The tabs are fixed now.

Well, that's interesting.... I'll look into fixing it today.

I finally finished updating the forum software and it seems to have fixed the login issue.

That said, not all the extensions have been reinstalled yet (due to compatibility) so it may take awhile before it is completely working again...

It now handles files that are able to be processed within 15 minutes and are under 128mb. If you have a file that is bigger than that, please talk to me. I do not want to remove the limit entirely because it doesn't require users to login to use it. Please do not abuse it.

Both the GTM File Host and Download uploader worked when I tested them...

According to Dreamhost.com, the cutoff point is somewhere around 8mb. I'll look into ways of circumventing this limitation.

Edit: In the meantime, send me a link to the file if you would like me to add it to GTM manually.

Modifications / Re: Bot Exchange (WIP)
« on: March 11, 2013, 10:11:35 PM »
Its been another week so its time for an update...

In terms of code, nothing major was done this week but I've been talking with Serge about adding features. It may be possible to add 3D views for all the bots (likely on the individual bot pages which will be added after the initial release).

Not a bad idea but changing forum titles requires admin privileges so whoever takes over the section would need to be an admin. This would therefore conflict with the idea of giving them moderator powers within the section (they wouldn't be able to do anything except modify posts or move/lock/delete the topic as moderators).

It also provides no incentive for people to continue doing tournaments after they get what they want. People wouldn't want to risk starting a new tournament if it meant that they could lose the privileges that they had already earned. This is a double-sided argument because it also prevents people from starting tournaments when they aren't ready for them.

I've considered rewarding tournaments hosts with prizes but it would take quite a bit of effort to make enough of them to give more than one level of achievement. It would be even more difficult if I allowed them to release the rewards as tournament prizes. I've also considered giving them access to a special board that contains prizes as they become available but that gives people less incentive to start tournaments or participate in them after they have access to the tournament prizes (for themselves).

To prevent tournament bailing this time around, I tried to reduce the number of tournaments that would advance to signups but there weren't enough entry-level tournaments for my actions to make a difference. However, the attempt gave me an idea. I was thinking of having a poll every month but limiting the number of advancing tournaments to one. That way, instead of having three new tournaments every one and half months, we would have one new tournament every month (I know there are six entry level tournaments but the three extra slots could be used to expand the poll to two whenever there was more than three tournaments in discussion). That way, everyone knows when the poll will be started (same day every month) and it reduces the amount of waiting time for new tournaments.

Lastly, I should mention that it is already rather complicated for hosts and moderators of the section. Having done it once, I can already tell why we don't have any moderators ATM. Without proper moderation, the section got rather messy and it may take some time before it regains its footing. That is part of the reason why I haven't promoted anyone to moderator status for it. It needs to be someone who is capable of moderating and taking action when necessary (no easy task). Until I see someone consistently stepping up to the plate (through their actions), I will be overseeing the section.

Those extender guards look awesome.

If you have the weight, I would consider making the three extenders that connect to the tribar into 40cm extenders to increase the diameter of the bot. I would also do some testing to make sure that it improves performance.

Invertibility is also a concern for that design. There has to be a way of using the motors other AP to mount it without having an extender sticking out of the top.

In that case, I'll update the software on Wednesday. I've been anticipating a forum update for quite some time and I think I have a handle on all/most of your mods.

I suspect that it will be better after the update because I think updating the PHP version for the wiki caused the issue in the first place.

Contests / Re: IRL Robots
« on: March 10, 2013, 01:15:22 PM »
Due to school and sudden realisation (and inability to spell to the point spell checker can't work it out) of time needed there will be no proper tournament.

I am not entering and I will pick the 5 best and a vote will be cast on the best 5 but images will be posted of the others as well. A award will be awarded to the most bizarre robot you can find. ( It has to be real though)
This has been moved to contests but until senstro posts, I wouldn't recommend sending anything. He hasn't been around since 2/28/13.

Lead by example. Nobody should expect change without putting any effort into it themselves.

For the past couple months, I've been trying to steer the community back towards RA2 by posting more but it is impossible to do it alone. I am only one person and complaining doesn't help matters (not that I am; I'm just stating my mentality).

The fact of the matter is that people have seen too much of the same old stuff to care. However, if you can give someone else an original post (none of that "empty space" junk), it would really help to keep their interest. Off the top of my head, Inf and Venko have both made a difference this month in terms of people's interest in RA2. I would be happy to see more people leading by example.

If you recall, it was towards the end of last year that people started saying that RA2 was dying (again...). The community as a whole took a sever hit just from posts like this. Action leads to change; complaints lead to more problems.

The only way that I have managed to replicate this error is by logging in with the SMF theme. I've disabled it for now just to see if it helps to alleviate the issue. Let me know if anyone continues to experience this issue after wiping the cache once more.

Edit: NVM, it is still there but it is harder to get the error with it off. You have to log out then in again to see it.

It was probably listing the Chatterbox topics that got restored yesterday. There should be an option to say "Mark All Messages As Read" on the Recent Unread Topics page and then you can use the main forum page for getting all the new posts that got lost in the mess. It is unlikely that this is a recurring problem but let me know if it is (I didn't do anything else yesterday or today).

Oh welcome to your new home, GCT.
Sorry 'bout that. I'm moving it back down to Chatterbox until I'm sure of what I'm going to do with it.
