Might suggest you try against Starcore V4 Alpha
https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/StarcoreV4Alpha2.zip It added a number of newer techniques like DSA and rebuilds for many bots like Alien Queen to make more stable and powerful. Let us know how you fair against the V4 Starcore Bots Starcore 63
Modifications / Re: Starcore v4 Revival & Completion« on: June 03, 2016, 10:06:26 PM »you can still continue with starcore's blessing, I guess. Considering he'll post here since we have typed "Starcore" at least 3 times in that page... Laughs 64
DSL TC Showcases / Re: battlebots247 Robot Showcase« on: September 21, 2015, 07:42:36 PM »Yeah. It's fine to build DSL unrealistic if the result is bad-ass, but DSL unrealistic tournaments are even rarer than Starcore posts. And that's a whole level of rare. Now that is rare! 65

Bit of a Bump...
I gave credit for every bot made by others for each generation of Starcore pack in the readme file of each pack. Starcore 66
Tournament Archives / Re: Starcore HW Display Tournament« on: November 01, 2013, 07:44:56 PM »
Thank you for doing a video presentation of the various HW Starcore bots. I look forward to watching in a modern context. When we started this, there was little or no YouTube for example.
I understand removing Flying Sheep. We put it in at the time to show something that was very new (back then) and to show off the technology for people that had not encountered in online matches (a key goal of the Starcore pack was showing what you might encounter in stock fights online). I would say Shedenator is yes rather asymmetrical but I would think would beat bots like Time Pixie. Battlebox was designed as a visual show off and for arenas with push off and into pits options which I agree does not match this enclosed no hazards arena. Don't forget, what 'sucks' in one arena type can be awesome on another type. Starcore 67
DSL TC Showcases / Re: S.H.I.E.L.D's failcase« on: September 29, 2013, 02:17:24 PM »I am proud to have fathered both the Starcore pack and DSL so I am happy to see you working to make a DSL updated version of the Starcore bots. I am fine with calling the DSL update efforts to recreate the Starcore pack something like: Starcore Memories Starcore DSL Starcore Redux Any of those would be appropriate. Nice to see you all are trying to keep the memories going with latest learnings. Do remember that many of the designs were based on information near 10 years ago. So what you consider sucks was effective at the time and out did basically anything else that existed at the time. If you want to base on the latest tunings, yes use the Starcore 4 Alpha pack. There were a few mistakes in those but not many. Most everything was brought to latest techniques while keeping the looks and textures where possible. For example, Alien Queen is much more stable and effective in 4a as are many others. Good luck and happy to see what you come up with, Starcore 68

Every bot in Starcore v3 or every LW and below? That is mighty fine driving if you are able to knock out the SHW bots in Starcore v3 with that bot.
Maybe you are ready for the Starcore v4 Alpha update with DSA and other fine tunings. Starcore 71

Whether talking about one of my packs, the Starcore AI, or about me in general. Glad you all are still enjoying RA2 and I hope the Starcore Packs and DSL has helped keep things fun and interesting. Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot SBV« on: September 24, 2011, 11:22:06 AM »Awesome round 2 is awesome. Starcore 74
Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot SBV« on: August 23, 2011, 08:28:22 PM »starcore, you are a legend to me. it would be an honour to have you give me your thoughts about my bot. 30 Second Rounds with recovery between rounds of parts that are not broken off changes the rules of what makes a good bot. In 2 minute combat, protecting your shell is paramount since that is the final armor for your control board. In 2 minute round combat, bots that are similar to yours like speedy DX, Stratocaster and Trollestia 2 are often better off by having their wheels protect the sides of their bots. In 30 second rounds your choice to hide your wheels inside your rammer may prove more effective. I would think that compact rammers like Big Dog and Bullet Train balance a small chassis to hit with amount of wheel exposure and are likely to be more successful. (My other entry that I did not use, a quickly updated Warmachine was a compact Rammer) I would comment that having weapons that stick out sideways like Big Dog, Blood Shed and Bullet Train help block bots and weapons getting to your vulnerable sides. You could have had Irons sticking straight out sideways instead of the half pick axes pointing straight forward. Good luck in the matches and hope you do well. Comments by others that T-888 Terminator does not have enought Maces and Armor to fend off the other 36HS Mace designs (Like BoomBox and Overloaded Orbinaut 4 which he is unfortunately facing in the first round), are likely to be true and it is time for T-888 Terminator to undergo a rebuild. He is 2 years old and doesn't use any Snapper Loading (which could reduce the amount of extenders needed and better hide the wheels). Just a ton of Effe Glitch in the construction. So I too have things I could improve. Starcore 75
Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot SBV« on: August 21, 2011, 09:53:03 PM »NOES I FIGHT STARCORE Your odds are good against T-888 Terminator. It did well against ULTIMATUM with 36 Irons but did not do well against 36HS designs with Maces. The design is a hybrid to take on very strong Rammers, reach out and hurt Jugglers and take on many types of HS designs and bind their weapons while still doing damage. But I do agree that it needs update from its 2009 design to snapper load the drive motors and switch to rubber wheels. I played with the design and looking versions with enough weight savings/juggling to raise the Mace Count on future versions to 33 or 36 with still some frontal defense or front ramming abilities. Will post when I have time to get some variations going. Till then, good luck and odds are in your favor. I had hoped to face a Rammer my first round, Starcore 76
Discussion / Re: Your favourite stock builder at the moment?« on: August 15, 2011, 03:39:03 PM »The 7 people who voted for me are the coolest people on this forum :DThats why I worded it that way. Though if I was to be truthful and stretch the question a bit, I would say that Rejected is still one of my favorite stock builders ATM (even if he hasn't posted any new bots).Although the poll is missing some of my all time favorites (namely Luigica and Rejected), I still managed to find a few.Which is why it's "at the moment" not "of all time." Thanks for remembering Rejected as one of your favorite stock builders ATM (would seem to mean what one remembers fondly). I am proud to have brought him back to the scene to build such bots as Neglected Waterbug and Rapid Pitbull so many years ago (he had been banned and rejected at the time..) and yes I did post a bot recently in Ironbot Signups: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,7639.105.html and on the Bot Exchange: https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/HW/Starcore_T-888%20Terminator.bot Doesn't mean I am remembered top of the heap, times change and favorites shift with the times... Happy to see people still enjoying Stock and DSL bot building, Starcore 77
Discussion / Re: DSL 1.0« on: August 06, 2011, 01:10:43 PM »
Hard to believe of all the people that downloaded DSL 1.0 that not one of you kept the the zip file.
I am still around and I will hunt some of my older machines. Has anyone Google Searched the Internet for the exact name of the container file? Why are you wanting DSL 1.0 specifically? Starcore 78
Discussion / Re: RA2 versions« on: August 06, 2011, 12:56:09 PM »Maybe if you ask Starcore really nicely, he might give you DSL 1 Though no one asked me, I am not finding it on my current PC. As I get some time will search archive Hard Drives and prior PCs that are being used by my kids and as house servers now. Ya but i never see him online :/ I don't always log into the forums to spot check if anyone is using my name in vain or nice ways. But I do check every few weeks or so who is having fun with the Starcore and DSL packs. Who is having issues and if I can assist. And I watch for Stock Tourneys to join in if I catch in time... Starcore 79
Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot Signups« on: August 06, 2011, 12:40:18 PM »
Yes I spot check these forums every few months by searching for my name.
I see if people are having fun with the packs I brought to the scene. Any issues they are having with installing or using or AIing using my designs. So I find posts out of sequence because I am finding them by search vs forum flow in most cases. That is why I sign every one of my posts. I really wonder if most any of you would be here if I had not authored the Starcore packs, promoted and led the team that created DSL or promoted AI tournaments and wrote the AI tutorials and examples? I do my best to drop in and answer questions. I smile to see people cut their teeth fighting the Starcore bots. And I take pride to see how DSL has grown. I don't have time to make bots for the changes and improvements that have happened for DSL but I join in Stock Tourneys when I notice in time (People are welcome to PM me when a new Stock Tourney starts up if they want to see me involved). I wish you all well but I don't have time to be snipped at. Starcore 80
Tournament Archives / Re: Ironbot Signups« on: August 06, 2011, 12:20:37 PM »Oh and Starcore. i dont think anyone is mentioning it because they fear you... Thank you for mentioning. Didn't kill anyone for me to respond to each one. I responded as I noticed and moved on. I am not trying to jack up my post count as you can see by my total posts across the years. It was three separate discussion points and I was moving fast. Bite me. And following choosing every post to respond to, you press reply. And yes I know how to hit the flipping Reply button. I am not monitoring as every post as it comes in. Gall, I am Admin for a reason.... I was being nice and engaging by asking for recommendations on a 2 year old bot that even with minor flaws looks cool and kicks royal butt. See if I ever ask you guys for recommendations again. Going back to coding and earning thousands every month in other MMOs as my free time activity. Starcore |
