God dam. My only hope was that my bot would get through without a rumble. GG All. There's always next time. Maybe i'll spend 20 minutes making a pop-up instead of a week making something unique... #Salty.

Right I'm all caught up! Shame about the sheer number of pop-ups in this. My bot doesn't fear pop-ups much as the wedge is pretty good, unfortunately it sucks against horizontal spinners and my brilliant AI decided to just target those in the rumbles... I would like to see him go through as he's a much better 1 on 1 type bot.
As long as some different entries get voted through though I'll be happy. Everyone loves variety right? Also: Thank you for the vote R01 and anyone else who has done so far

When you haven't seen any videos so far, but notice your bot in a poll at the top of the page...
It's not good news is it...? Will catch up on the videos tonight so I can see what everyone is going crazy for haha!

Just a few random thoughts after skimming your post:- If you are going to be overhauling the balance, you should consider swapping out the control board so that any bots built using your mod won't be mistaken for bots created in stock RA2. It would also help any bot parsers determine which mod a bot was created in so that it can inform the user if they need to download something first.
- For the batteries, I would look at increasing the elecmaxinoutrate more (not just the electotal) so that they stay at full speed for longer. Also, keep in mind that yo don't want the pink batteries used on HW so don't make them too powerful.
- The HP of round and square extenders should be directly correlated to the weight of the extender itself. Right now, if I want to have a 60cm extender, I'll actually use 3 20cm extenders because they have more total HP and each individual segment is less likely to get hit. Alternatively, you could go the route of making all extenders weigh the same (like burst motors are presently) but that would penalize people that just want to use the APs for things like weapon racks.
- You presently have the angle connector equal to the T and Y connectors. Since this component only has one AP, you should consider making it a little lighter than the other two (which would make this 1kg with your current values).
- The weight of the Axle Mount seems a little low. Considering that you are also increasing the strength of disks, I'm thinking that this would encourage the use of flails too much. I would probably try something around 7kg.
- The T and Y connectors should have half the HP of the 20cm round extender. Otherwise, I would use 2 T connectors instead of the 20cm round extender so that I had twice the HP and two smaller targets.
- I don't think the baseplate anchors should have any collision. Things that attach to the baseplate are invincible so exo-stacking anchors can result in castor-like armor. Also, anchors are commonly stacked inside of other components like batteries.
- Why make the square extender identical to the round extender? Wouldn't it make more sense to give it more HP so that you have more options?
- RAD motors should have a lower max speed so that they aren't as effective when used as weapon motors. This won't affect drive motors because RA2 doesn't use this value in its bot movement calculations.
- You should make the Powered Steering Unit significantly lighter (30kg, maybe) and try increasing the power so that it is better than a RAD.
- The blue snapper should be a tad heavier, IMO.
- When you do the extras, you should make the Steelyard Dogs Snow Plow heavier and give it more HP than the regular Snow Plow. This is the same idea as round extenders vs square extenders.
I agree with all of Trovs points here. I also support this project and if you need any help or input, hit me up bro

Stock tourney, you'll have a bot from me :)
Gimmicks always help make a tourney standout, but nothing wrong with a standard tourney as well... Just make it run smoothly and get the matches completed sharpish and everyone will be happy :)

Finally, I was wondering when you would put that bot up here and thought about asking. Hey wait, this isn't actually the version that fought Redace(would've loved to see a picture of that), that one had razors on the front(which I really liked and was fitting with the bot theme. Were that many self righting problems?) Yeah heh heh, I can't believe I left it this long since my last update here... I liked the design of the other one too, but having a drumbot seems to make havoks more common... It's weird, but the bracket and the 2 razors would always perfectly balance me on my side, which to be honest, when you're owning someone and the game bugs out, it is really frustrating; the irons have fixed the issue from my testing. I've been having some issues building something efficient as well(minus that one MW, check my thread if you want to see what I've been up to lately.) You didn't mention it's name(Redrum?) it's ran from one supervolt I guess? The name is "Murder" backwards, like in the film "The Shining". In the film this guy basically goes nuts and starts writing RedRum, RedRum everywhere and it's not until it is shown in a mirror, that is revealed that the word is Murder backwards... RedRum/Murder, the bot got a red coat of paint :) (blood, but also fits), but as it's a drum bot as well, it's pronounced Re-Drum as a bit of a play on words. With the red color and that bracket it really had a devil like look, and the only thing I'd change is move the anchor for the bracket a bit lower so that it doesn't float in the air/possibly put an extender(maybe you just have the weight) just as a visual detail? And if possible the Razors because I really loved the look that the bot had. There might be a way to position the razors so as not to get it stuck on it's side, because I agree it did look good... And if I remember rightly, I think the bracket does have a single 20cm extender below it? I could be wrong... You could make the bot wider with that extra weight, that would probably help keep it from getting on its side in the first place and probably help a bit against HS
Wider? Unless you extend the chassis on layer two so that it's like this: \ | | / it won't really help with self righting and even then you can get stuck easily(you will sometimes end up on the side, no matter what), I think the spikes are a nice decoration and help a lot with that. Since extenders only have 100? HP and weapons have 1000 they're more stable as well.
I suppose I could do a few tests that way, as it stands though, the drum sits (almost) perfectly in the middle of the bot, which helps a lot with stability, I essentially built the design around how big I would need the gap in the middle of the two wedges and went from there. HS do own it unfortunately... Not sure if there is much I can do about that in all honesty.

Wow... I haven't posted here since July...! I've had a bit of builders block lately, that combined with a lot of failed experiments in the bot lab and a few other failed designs have really set me back lately. A good tournament is just what I needed I think, something to focus on. Here's my entry for a stock MW tournament: Sticking with the drum theme, here's my attempt at a MW version. It won in it's first challenge match against Redace, but will be interesting to see how it fairs against some other designs. The Iron spikes let it self right if it gets flipped on it's side. I could replace them with extenders, but it only saves about 12 Kg, if you can think of something useful I can use that weight for, let me know!

Minus the fact that you can change the component location in the .bot file I thought this was all already known?
I actually only knew how to move Stock robots about. I have 3 versions of RA2 setup, all with a different AI pack so I can easily import designs to and from them because it's all stock. I've never tried importing a replica into Stock before so I think this would still be useful for some!

I have returned, hopefully for more than six months too! Haha. Let’s see…
But you raise an interesting point. My return was largely based on the fact that Robot Arena 3 was releasing and Robot Wars was coming back on the telly. From looking into those it rekindled my love for this game and I had a “wow, I remember that” moment and I sought out a download of the game; I even forgot I had an account here and tried to make a new one…
The game itself is the biggest problem I think, but the problems the game faces I think robot fighting in general suffers with as well. The majority of “good” bots in both real life and in the game are spinners, or you get some crazy niche design that really shines in real life that can’t be replicated in the game, like Razor – This issue comes down to the game not being deep enough. Perhaps an expansion of the game is needed. More parts, more possibilities. I know we have the mods, but like you say, there are still standout designs in every version that everyone can just slap together – maybe a big stock expansion pack would go a ways to help? Flails, CO2 flippers, the flamethrower, crushing arms, more burst motors, I don’t know, maybe trying to migrate everyone over to DSL would be a start instead?
In terms of activity, users need a buzz like you say. When a new game comes out, everyone tries everything and tests it out. This is an old game now, everything has been discovered, all the weapons have been tested, the glitches have been mastered. DSL 2.2 should have had more of an impact admittedly, but what can you do?
The key is to promote interest in the game, get a reason for people to play. A forum wide tournament is certainly a start, get people talking, get members seeded (custom titles based on their seeding?), get peoples reps up for exceeding expectations, get the wiki updated with new and old member profiles that are now active, where’s my wiki page? Badger? R01? Boto? Wen needs a whole site dedicated to him for Christ’s sake. Remember the BBEANS parts you would win like pre-stacked supervolts? Incentives like that should be brought back as well.
All of this requires dedication from a group of reliable admins that will obviously be sacrificing a great deal of their time to make all this happen. It’s a lot to expect from someone, but keeping a game like this alive takes work! And I think it’s worth it… Definitely my favourite robot combat game across any format.

lol wen nobody is going to do that, and nobody is going to be bothered to host it.
Take one for the team and host it mate!

#1 is the only good bot
Are you joking bro? "Brexit out the arena" is worthy of a victory on its own! Can't believe #2 hasn't won yet!

I agree with toast! And a forum wide "official" event needs to happen I think. Most new people to the forums have heard about bbeans through the wiki, then to find out its no more is tragic.

So I know we've moved on, but I need to weigh in here re: Tornado's frame. I finally saw the match again last night (I had forgotten about it).
Wow lol. I can see why it gets so heavily debated... My thoughts:
Yes, it's cheap (but also clever). No, it shouldn't have been banned, it's not cheating. Yes, Razor should have won as Tornado had all four wheels suspended above the pit rendering it immobile.
I'm a hypnodisc fanboy so no bias here either.
Carry on.

Nicely built, but I'd still say they're pretty generic looking, well, the MW Popup is anyway. The lightweight intrigues me though... The weapons mounted on an angle mount? How does it work?
I think you should build a MW version of the bot you entered for your challenge against Redace, that was certainly not generic.

Guys: the flippers like TR2 were performing badly there because of the arena conditions. The extremely cold temperature means that some teams reported they had pneumatics problems - the temperature was also the source of some of Terrorhurtz's issues. It's something they really need to think about resolving for the second series - the robots will hopefully naturally be higher quality because people will have more than a couple of months at most to design and build.
I get the conditions weren't great, but TR2 performed fine... Dantomkia on the other hand... He has a back tail that the team must place "up" which keeps the front of the bot angled down in order for them to get under other bots. The team were seemingly unaware of this and kept raising and lowering it repeatedly. It was frustrating haha.
But yes, I did feel sorry for terrorhurtz and the the issue does need to be resolved. Was anyone really, really, annoyed with the new Dantomkia team? I mean I love the bot (as a lot of people do), but these guys were terrible drivers, the "captain" wailing on the bot with a hammer pretending to fix it (I know the military grade armour can withstand it, but still) and the fact that they performed so poorly. In some of the early fights it was like they just discovered they could flip stuff. The constant "putting the tail up" so it couldn't get under TR2 in the final like at all, these guys really ruined the episode for me. As a side note, I thought TR2 was a decent new comer (aside from the "axe") and the 15 year old doing the driving did really well and they did deserve to go through all in all, Dantomkia has just been ruined for me and my brother... Anyone else agree?
Yeah I was as well, check my post. Apparently its yet another show team and they're nice guys, with the original driver of Dantomkia saying that it's in good hands with that team. Still unhappy about them hitting the bot. As for the other things, many teams didn't get enough time so we see a lot of links getting knocked outs or mechanical problems. TR2 did have the better ground clearance, and in the final, after the hits from Matilda their flipper as well as their tail didn't work right anymore so the robot couldn't keep itself down.
Just read your post. Pretty much agree with everything you said. Although I think TR2 would do alright against Carbide. The scoop on the front looks quite well armoured and should be able to take at least a couple hits, giving them time to throw carbide around a bit and hopefully put the blade out of commission. You're right though, they haven't got much competition at the moment, unless the wildcard is going to be Razor!
