This is quite a bit late, because I really, really didn't think much about it at all at the time. However, as recent events in other tournaments have started a bit of a wider discussion on this, I've started to realise there's a problem here at least worth pointing out. My entry into the wildcard rumble was really heavily changed from the entry without me being told, and it made the robot so redundant I would've rather not entered it in that state. This is what I entered: http://i.imgur.com/UJycLdt.pngI recognise this probably broke your IRL rule in retrospect - especially considering that one of the actual entries into this tournament used the same basic design idea, but added significantly more supports that probably made it cross the line into IRL territory. I'm new to this and have already made a lot of mistakes that you kind of have to make when it comes to learning how the format works. But if you were going to completely 180 flip the robot, the very least you could've done is told me, and if there wasn't enough time to get any kind of fix or the problem was too fundamental, given me the option of pulling out, which I likely would've taken because flipping the robot made it... rather worthless and I would have rather refined the design for a future tournament than see something which really isn't mine any more entered under my name. It's your first tournament. It's a single mistake in that first tournament which has otherwise run really well and been fun to watch. You were rushed for time in receiving three entries at once when you probably just wanted to get the rest of it underway, and I can tell this is very unlikely to have been done with any malicious intent - in fact, taking your time to try and make it legal had the best of intentions. I also really don't care about doing it or any other kind of battle again - what's done is done. But as we've just been through with others, it is important practice to inform people if you're going to quite radically change designs due to them breaking existing rules - just tell the person in question they've broken a rule, propose the change, and give a day or two to see whether they still want to enter with the revised robot (assuming there's no time for the quite hefty job that actually making that IRL probably would have been).

Okay. Things have happened, this has evolved, oh boy.
I initially was very unhappy with the reaction because of seemed attempts, *at the time*, of heavily downplaying the situation even after the initial apology. I may have also conflated the official reactions with some of the series' ardent defenders in the other comment sections somewhat along the way, which did peak my frustration. That was a mistake, and I apologise for letting my emotional side take over the rest.
With the recent developments, I feel like this has been addressed significantly better. Given circumstances, the re-recording is the absolute best thing that can be done, even if it can't affect the outcome due to pre-recording. Thank you for doing your best to ultimately address this.

I genuinely cannot believe some of you are trying to argue his way out of such a blatant, tournament-ruining **** up with such awful excuses.
You're right. It is just a game. There are no real stakes, and nobody is entitled to a rematch or re-do. What's done is done.
However, having such awful due diligence and totally screwing over competitors the way you have does reflect badly upon you and your ability to host tournaments, and we are within our rights to call it out, and others are well within their rights to refuse to enter your tournaments in the future if you're going to host them so poorly. I for one was interested in entering this series in the future but this incident, combined with the quite pathetic reaction means I never will, and there are probably many others who, upon seeing this, will have the same reaction. We're within our rights to, at bare minimum, point that out so others don't make the same mistake of joining in the future.
Unless, that is, you're at all willing to take some actual responsibility instead of sh**-talking us in the comments, thinking we won't notice, any time soon?

But does this mean we'll never get to see the drum in action? When asked whether Extreme Robots' new arena would be Grade 1 for spinners, John said he was "considering options". I'd love to see it myself, but if he can't practically make it work he would have spent a lot of money on a useless addition....

So people keep asking me if Ripper will be applying for the next series of Robot Wars, I think everyone knows I was getting ready for it and I think I stood a good chance of doing well, the answer was going to be yes, but yet again I'm NOT allowed to enter, even though I will be out of contract, given the brand back, given them the website domain, actively promoted the show, and I've done everything they've asked. Basically, because I run a robot related live show Extreme Robots and it features robots from Robot Wars, I'm never going to be allowed to take part in any series of Robot Wars in the future as it could be classed as unfair, which is very sad for me after working so hard to keep the brand going and campaigning to get it back, over the last 12 years. I'm not even allowed to have someone else run Ripper for me, not allowed to be on a team, as that's what I tried last time, but surprise suprise they will allow a robot that's been built by someone who built the house robots, and the Team now present a Robot related live show ( no offence to them ) Something tells me I'm just not wanted and you just have to know the right people! What an absolute joke, Rant over !! Good luck to all the teams taking part in December

Ladies and gentlemen
It's fedora time
I kept my jokebot (well, the design is somewhat conventional, but let me just say I wasn't taking it seriously) a little bit more under wraps than... some other people. I can't wait to immediately lose!

I do like the sound of both of those, but especially #2. One of the things that is scaring me about ever wanting to host a tournament is having too much of my time limit trying to get signups that just aren't coming, leaving me with not enough to get my first tournament done. Having a grace period for signups would be a good confidence boost, and it does account for the concerns you have raised over neglectful hosts.

That's what I get for using low-radius wheels, the intention was to run it at the bottom like PP3D but it was clearly too low to be allowed. It was quite a rushed design, that robot will be back with probably bicycle wheels elsewhere at one point because I think it can work well if it can actually be made an IRL undercutter.

wakkydude you should just host it. Pretty easy when you have literally 1 rule.
I will need to get to learning to AI but it's something I've wanted to do for a while anyway. I'll definitely put this on my radar, but if anyone else wants the idea before I can get to it it's free.

I formally request that you disqualify Meganerdbomb's HW. The name is absolutely unacceptable.
it's your metagame, it's not like he can really refuse. checkmate, yugitom.

So: would anyone get involved with a one-off stock full CF (excluding unlimited weight) tournament? It's a really, really stupid idea I've been sitting on for a while and would probably only ever work once, but I'm curious as to absolutely how far RA2 can be possibly pushed when the rules are lifted on component placement.

Oh yes, people. Since I entered the championship series I've been actually having a lot more fun building in RA2 than I expected, and took a bit of a detour to other tournaments. These are my first ever attempts at fully building both DSL and IRL creations (my very first one was intended for Robot Wars but since had to go to Steel 10 to hit the CW limit so I thought I might as well make it a lighter-armor middleweight instead), but I think quite a few of my creations here have come out nicer than expected and I can't wait to see them go. I've still got some HWs to do as well.
(i'm aware of what caused my rejection and am on the case. at least it wasn't adding rwra2 parts)

I'm probably only going to enter Ironforge at this point - a mod I've just picked up but am having a lot of fun with, it's really somewhat revitalised the fun I'm having with this game and I'm glad I didn't vote for DSL as a result.
Anyway I'm actually excited about this because signs are suggesting my robot actually has a small chance of winning at least one battle. Time will tell, I guess.

Okay lads. I know literally nothing about Ironforge. Downloaded it for the first time a couple days, I'm literally as lost as I could ever be.
But if we're speaking about unlimited slots here, I'm gonna have to try something, hopefully in every category, for this special occasion. It may not be big, it may not be impressive, and it'll definitely go out in a huge blaze of disappointment. But competing regardless is really, at the end of the day, the spirit of it all, isn't it?
(it's not going to be a series of sftw meme joke-bots. i'm actually gonna try to make something with my limited-as-hell knowledge and it'll suck)

I just think it's poorly thought out. Like you get rid of half the bots in each heat in the first match and then squeeze as many matches as you can out of the remaining half, and in the process screw over bots who are matched vs spinners first. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone in the position Thor was in this episode just driving into the pit or pretending they're dead from the start to avoid getting rekt by the spinner.
Yeah, there are obvious weaknesses, with the group battles being the absolute pinnacle of the failures. It's a shame because these problems are virtually unavoidable through having such a format: due to the way robot combat works, damage can rack up easily. I guess in theory it worked a lot better than it did in practice - but if they get rid of it completely and don't try to learn from it in some way I just think it'll be a shame to see some of its positive aspects gone. It was definitely something worth trying at the bare minimum.

I personally liked the effects of the new format, even though I can see the logistical problems that it caused due to the requirement to keep repairing even when against hugely damaging opponents. I liked the opportunities it gave for failing teams to get back into the fight, it increased the amount of content per episode, and it led to some moments that we wouldn't have had if it wasn't in place (after all, the allowance for failure is the only reason we got Carbide past the first heat, after its defeat to Terrorhurtz). That said though I see the issues people have raised - I'm really not sure what a good compromise is because I really don't quite want to give up the advantages myself.

Gabriel is awesome it was great to watch at the live event in Manchester and is the only robot i've seen to effectively fall out of the arena, I just find Gabriel great and entertaining to watch and I normally don't like robots designed like that (i.e stinger i always hated that robot when it was on tv just something about it i think). As for the wildcard id think that Thor will get it as its the only robot to win all the fights besides the final one, id like storm 2 to get it but i cant see that happening.
Gabriel vs Eric was sad. Very sad. I'd like to play that awful flute titanic theme over it, it truly was the death of a not-really-legend. That said, I don't know what the owner was expecting. Probably not much, he has a lot of fun with Eric without ever taking it seriously.
