Well that's weird, apparently you and Mr. AwesumSauce are posting from the same IP (not for all your posts though; just 1 of yours and 4 of Mr. AS).  That would explain why Mr. AS gets the same problem.  Speaking of IPs, you probably should have blacked yours out in that image.

ARE you using a dynamic IP, and did you check for viruses?

Small chassis only havoks with internal drive motors (usually).  Put the Copal on a multiextender or something and it should be fine.

Also, that bottom armor is nearly useless mounted on a skirt hinge.  It will just flex out of the way and bots will still hit your chassis.  It needs to be mounted so it can't move.

I keep telling FB he should contribute this as battle music for your tournament, even if he doesn't enter a bot.

If you're interested in using it, I can ask him permission (he'll probably be OK with it; he's just can't be bothered to post).  He has an mp3 download here http://tindeck.com/listen/ecyt

Named after one of my favorite Youtubers.

Is it just me or is the weapon Snapper slightly stacked in the Z-tek?

Or add something on the Snapper II axles to keep bots from going over your top.

I'm sure you know this but razors are better than irons on popups.  If you used razors maybe you could put several ramming spikes on top.

Also, the chassis needs to be shaped like an F. :P

N00B WARZ?  *Goes to check tournament discussion*

I would enter either NightTerror or Pin and Kill.  They look the most interesting.

It is quite clear, judging from your behavior, that in some part of your mind, you are ashamed of your entry and feel terrible about these wins.

Well that's exaggerating it quite a bit.  I am simply aware that hiding under the blade and taking advantage of dumb AI is a cheap way to win, and I'm trying not to sound arrogant or brag about how clever my strategy is.

I'm fully hoping I can beat Vertigo in the finals and win the tournament.  It will only be my second tournament win, and I can deny the crown to the flippers that have otherwise dominated the bracket.

Contests / Re: Vote BOTM Jan 2012
« on: January 07, 2012, 10:09:40 PM »
I think the timing for this was off.  We just got done with the Christmas BOTM, which takes a lot of effort, and then people are usually busy with Christmas and New Year's stuff in December like traveling, shopping, and celebrating.  Then to make a stock UHW which would also be a lot of effort... speaking for myself, I didn't enter because I didn't feel like attempting a stock UHW, though I might have been willing to throw together something simple like a LW.

I think stock UHW would be interesting to revisit sometime in the future when people aren't so busy though.

Waay better than first version, popup lifter is much more effective and front is protected.

Do the srimech blades on this actually work?  It would be interesting if it was that easy to self-right an HS.

Also you should use two burst motors for the popup weapon.  That many irons on a Snapper is really going to weigh it down and reduce damage.  Normally you'd want to use razors too, but since they're exposed irons might be better.

Interesting hybrid design there; could be effective in Starcore 3 with a bit more work.

Edit: oops I thought the DDT's were for the wedges and the Snapper held the spikes.  My bad.  In that case, try to get another Snapper and put one wedge on each one.  That funky dual-wedge setup you have there never seems to work very well.

So what's with my bot randomly turning on itself without losing a wheel ? It's perfectly invertible though.

One of your drive motors was damaged; I could see it smoking.

Time for my excuse.

Caught pneumonia over thanksgiving, got worse after I posted the last videos. Lasted for a while, and finally went back to school. Spent a week and a half, including weekends working on a ton of homework until late at night, and then caught a stomach bug that I've been suffering from for 3 day currently. But I got on the computer, and edited together the Winner's Bracket Final!!!

Clickbeetle vs. Vertigo up now!

If there's ever been a valid excuse for slow updates, that is it.  Hope you get better so you can enjoy Christmas.  At least the homework part is out of the way now.

Does look very nice indeed. I imagine it would look better if the axle wasn't so long, though. I think if you tried a Bar setup similar to what I used on Frequency, then that might save you some weight for 30kg hammers.

I thought about 30kg hammers but I think it just looks better with the 30x200 bar and 25's.  This is IRL, after all.

As for the axle, I agree but unfortunately there are no 30cm extenders.  :rage   Something to add for DSL3.

Better post my take on Mike's Greenwave-style HS design before it becomes a klone.

This works like Anathema 3, which I posted a couple pages back.  If it hits a wedge and destabilizes, the chassis starts spinning instead of the blade and those Lightning spikes and Typhoon spikes become deadly weapons.  Unlike Anathema 3, though, it actually self-rights fairly quickly thanks to the angled skirt on top.

It has 4 ants, 1mm Ti, a Perm 132, and no BFE required!

Don't those flipper segments and skirts kill the wedge?  In my experience, using wedges for armor attachment reduces their wedginess.

If you could figure out another way to attach that armor, the bot would be great.

Discussion / Re: Enabling Attachment Points
« on: December 24, 2011, 01:50:17 AM »
Oh you mean like how you can't put hex plates on a Magmotor, or attach extenders to the sides of motors?

That requires editing the gmf.  At the end of the attachment point, there's a line that says

Attach type = Generic_F, Generic_M, Axle_F, Axle_M

If it doesn't have all four of those attach types, it will be limited in some way.  For example, if you have Generic_F but not Generic_M, you can use that point to attach the component with, but you can't attach anything else on to it.

To "enable" all attach points, as you put it, just give them all of those attach types.  However, keep in mind that doing so is cheating for standard bot building.

There's also Base_F and Base_M, which controls attaching to the baseplate.

Other Tutorials / How to BFE chassis height
« on: December 24, 2011, 01:24:34 AM »
I've seen a lot of people lamenting that they can't BFE chassis height recently.  I thought, "Seriously?  Has no one written a tutorial on this ridiculously easy technique?"  Apparently, no one has, at least not in the Tutorials board.  Let me take this opportunity to post a quick and simple guide to BFE'ing chassis height.

Step 1

If you're intending to lower your chassis height with BFE, the first thing you should do before you even start building is set the chassis height at the lowest it will go in-game.  This will make it much easier to adjust the chassis height out-of-game later on.

You probably know this, but just in case:  To get the very lowest chassis height in-game, don't drag the height slider down.  Instead, click the bottom-most pixel of the height bar.  This sets the slider at a level below that which you can normally drag it to.

Step 2

Once your chassis is done, export your bot and quit RA2.

You can BFE the chassis height at any time, but it's better to do it before attaching any components, to make sure that the components actually FIT inside.  If you BFE after the components are in there, you could accidentally make it too short so the components can't be reattached, which would be basically the same as stacking and fall under the "cheating" category.

Step 3

Now here's where it gets just a bit tricky.  You can't edit .bot files in Notepad, Word, or any other common default program.  If you try, it will corrupt the file beyond recovery.

Fortunately, there's any easy solution.  Notepad++ is a free, safe text editor that's loaded with tons of useful features, but the only one you really care about right now is that it can save .bot files without corrupting them.  Here's the official website where you can download it:  http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

After installing Notepad++, run it and go to File > Open.  Navigate to your Robot Designs folder and open up your .bot file.  Now you're ready to edit!

Step 4

The .bot file looks intimidating, but don't panic.  There's an easy way for the program to change the chassis height automatically.  To do this, go to Search > Replace in the menu bar.

Here's where setting the chassis to the minimum in-game height beforehand comes in handy.  If you did this, the height of your chassis will be exactly 0.338182.  Why such an odd number?  I don't know, but be glad for it because being so odd means it won't likely appear anywhere else in the .bot file.  That means you can safely type 0.338182 in the "Find what" box, and type the desired new chassis height in the "Replace with" box.  Now click "Replace All".  This will go through the .bot file and replace all instances of the number 0.338182 with whatever you put in the "Replace with" box.

What should the new chassis height be?  It will probably take some experimentation but 0.25 is a good height to start at.  However, don't make the height exactly 0.25.  Make it something very close, like 0.250001.  This will make it possible to do another Replace All if you need to change the chassis height, as 0.250001 won't likely appear anywhere else in the .bot file, but 0.25 might.

Now suppose you didn't set the chassis height to the in-game minimum and don't want to rebuild the bot, or you did it wrong and 0.338182 doesn't appear in the .bot file.  Don't give up; all you need to do is find out what the chassis height actually is.  First, look for where it says "Chassis" a little less than halfway through the file.  It should look something like this:

Chassis
(bunch of really big numbers)
RAW
(bunch of 1's and 0's)
(bunch of fractions in two columns)
(bunch of numbers in three columns)

The bunch of numbers in three columns is what you want.  The numbers in the middle column are the height.  Example:

Code: [Select]
1.1 0 0.88
0.88 0 0.88
0.88 0 -0.88
1.1 0 -0.88
1.1 0 -1.1
-1.1 0 -1.1
-1.1 0 -0.88
-0.88 0 -0.88
-0.88 0 0.88
-1.1 0 0.88
-1.1 0 1.1
1.1 0 1.1
1.1 0.51 0.88
0.88 0.51 0.88
0.88 0.51 -0.88

-1.1 0.51 0.88
-0.88 0.51 0.88
-1.1 0 0.88
-1.1 0 1.1
-1.1 0.51 1.1
-1.1 0.51 0.88
-1.1 0 1.1
1.1 0 1.1
1.1 0.51 1.1
-1.1 0.51 1.1
1.1 0 1.1
1.1 0 0.88
1.1 0.51 0.88
1.1 0.51 1.1

This bot has a chassis height of 0.51.

Now just do the Replace All explained above.  Since 0.51 might appear in other places in the .bot file, it's probably a good idea to highlight all of that three-column section first, so it only replaces numbers in that area.

When you're done, save the file.  That's it!  You don't need to do anything else, or do any manual editing and risk making a mistake.

Step 5

Open RA2.  Import the BFE'd bot into your bot lab and hope it doesn't crash (if it does, you did something very wrong).  Now have fun finishing building your super-flat killer!

I would be most like Stocke.  I don't say much IRL, and I don't show very much emotion, but I try to be nice by my actions.
