I like the look of Fail or Flail.  Not terribly effective, but cool.

Berry Punch just looks unstable.  That skirt hinge wedge will do almost nothing to stabilize it and the fast drive will make it prone to tipping.  You should use lighter wheels and wide static stabilizers.

Edit:  Wait that's a HW???  ...I'm sure you can do the same design on a MW.

Is the new S-Cargo better than the old one?  I am unconvinced, though it still looks like a good build.

EMERGENCY could actually win some fights if it outwedged the opponent and got them in the death pit... unlikely, sure, but it's possible.  You should probably rule that the human bot advances to the next round regardless of whether it actually beats EMERGENCY.  Or just don't use a byebot.

The maximum weight possible for a Middleweight is 399.0kg. Technically it's 399.049999 recurring, but the game just rounds it off.

False.  The maximum weight is 399.000000 kg.  This is why if you make a bot that displays as 399.0 kgs, sometimes the game will say it's a MW, and sometimes it will say it's a HW - you can't see whether the bot is 398.500001 and the game is rounding it up, or if it's 399.049999 and the game is rounding it down.  The rounding only applies to the displayed weight, not the actual weight.

Seems like a good team there in terms of type synergy.  But why Altaria?  Personal preference?

I have a Lapras (named H2Ownage) in Pearl that was my first really successful Battle Tower pokemon.  It can be good but you have to watch out for all the weaknesses the ice typing gives you.  The moveset I used was Rain Dance, Hydro Pump, Thunder, Ice Beam; in retrospect though it is better to set up rain with something else before sending in Lapras.  Also, Starmie probably does that moveset better.

When I got involved with DSL1 as a beta tester, and later took over development and released DSL2.  It feels great to finally finish that huge of a project.

Also, when I released the stock BBEANS AI pack and people found the SFTW easter egg.

Tempted to make some remark about how that wouldn't happen on a cartridge game, but losing a shiny is too much of a pain already.

Druddigon really isn't that good or even cool-looking though, you didn't lose much apart from the sparklies.

Could you hack it back in?  Seems to me it should be easier to do on a ROM than a cartridge game.

While I'm posting here, I might as well complain that I'm hating the Battle Subway more every time I try it.  It's impossible to cover every threat with 3 pokemon, meaning you'll eventually run into something you can't beat or worse, get randomly critical-hitted by something you should beat, and getting 50 wins is basically a series of dice rolls.

I keep telling myself I'm going to just give up, but then I eventually get a new idea and try again.  Right now I'm thinking a more offensive team might work better than the bulky stall/set-up teams I've been using.  In particular, I think I need a fast Choice Scarf revenge killer.

Current best team, I think the record is 44 wins:

B-17 - Standard spiker/phazer/physical wall Skarmory (lead)  (Skarmory is amazing.  I've used him on every team since I got him for the HG/SS Battle Tower; definitely the MVP.)
Amorina - Special wall/Toxic-staller Gastrodon with Storm Drain (it's fun switching her in against water-types because the computer apparently doesn't know about Storm Drain and keeps using water attacks to give her +6 special attack  )
Bumblebee - Bulky Multiscale Dragonite with Dragon Dance, Outrage, Roost, and Substitute (tried Fire Punch instead of Sub but found I needed protection from status and Outrage can plow through most steels after a couple dances anyway.  Also, she's nigh impossible to kill if I manage to get a Sub and then Roost to full health without it breaking  )

Axes are really only good if used on rammers and pokers.

And Trinity SnS.

Protip:  The tribar collides with a much smaller area than it appears... it will only break if you hit the exact center or the far tips.  This makes it extremely difficult to knock off until all the weapons on it are gone.  That, combined with its light weight and large size makes it superior to discs in almost every way.  Discs are really only used on vertical spinners where you usually need a smaller diameter weapon.

Long story short, the weapon won't break as quickly in the Octagon (you meant Octagon right, not Hexagon?) if you use a tribar.

Are you sure that's really going to fly?  Aerodynamics is complicated stuff...

It'll be cool if it does fly though.

Actually in this case, a U chassis and an H chassis would weigh exactly the same.  All you're doing is sliding the middle segment forward or backward.

You will only save weight by bringing two of the "arms" of the H together into one thicker center arm, thus eliminating the gap in the middle.  The end result would be sort of a Y chassis (assuming you want to leave the front gap for the Vlad spike).

Almost perfectly coffin-shaped chassis needs a funereal name.  Tombstone, Mortician, Last Rites... owait those are all real bots.  Well I'm sure you could think of something else.  Last Will and Testament perhaps?

Bonus points if you skin it like a coffin too.  :gawe:

(Image removed from quote.)

I like how you did the weapon head on this.  Looks like some sort of broad hatchet or something.

The drive however is overkill... either use smaller motors or lighter wheels and give it stronger armor.

if you were to make this invertible it would be pretty good, the top weapons aren't doing much imo.

Top weapons are doing nothing actually.

The best solution here is to put your weapons all along the arms instead of piled on the tips.  That way, ramplate protection becomes unnecessary, giving you more weight for weapons, and it can be invertible.

Example:  (Virus Bomb's bot)

Discussion / Re: how do I make a decal ?
« on: January 15, 2012, 09:08:53 PM »
If you're only interested in decent skinning, just click the "export paint template" button in the bot lab and skin your bot in some painty program (Gimp and Paint.NET are the most popular free ones on here).  RA2 has a fairly atrocious graphics-resizing method and decals will generally look awful unless you make them cover one whole side of the bot.  It looks much better if you resize in an outside program.  Plus you don't need to worry about getting the decal size and format just right.  I hardly ever use decals; really the only time I think they could be useful is if you're skinning a whole bunch of similar bots or if you're putting weapon slots on (because it's hard to guess where slots should go in an outside program).

Discussion / Re: Drumblebee 5
« on: January 15, 2012, 08:58:53 PM »
I have Drumblebee 5 on the bot exchange (link is right at the top of the site) under stock heavyweights.  Check it out and look at how the weapon is set up.  The weapon is really very simple, just requires some tricky rotating of round extenders to get the spikes facing the right way.  For that, it helps to know that each "click" of rotation is 10 degrees.

If it's hard to clone the weapon, try it with square extenders first and then do round extenders once you figure it out.

I also used axle loading to get the spikes all oriented at the same angle, but you can easily just rotate them to stack at different angles and it's basically as good.  Most really serious bot builders are just OCD about getting the razors facing the same way.

Whups.  Well, it's disappointing because YET AGAIN I don't get to put a Sacrifice bot in the Metal Skull... but realistically this tournament was going to the neighboring countries around Nowhere.  Guess people love their razors, irons, and maces too much.

Unless you interpret "the day your sign ups are approved" as the day the host approves all the sign ups they got and closes registration.  :trollface

Finished?  It hasn't started yet.  I don't think the clock starts until the brackets/videos thread is posted, but GK can correct me if not.  And even if the clock HAS started, the time limit is 1 year so MNB still has plenty of time.

That said, I think signups should have closed some time ago...
