I ldon't really like the look of that for some reason. It looks a bit too flimsy for my liking. But I really do like the arms/frontal protection of it.

A lot of people think I'm a girl from behind. Then they see my beard.

I made the names visible thing just to make sure I can trust everyone.

...do you know how idiotic that sounds?. How could people not vote fairly if they don't know who chose each song in the first place? They can't favouritise anyone if there are no names attached to the songs, whereas - as you have seen with the previous three pages - with the system you used this time around, members will go "I don't like that member, therefore I'm not voting for him". Do you not see how much better the old system was?

This is the part where Terry Wogan leaves, is replaced by Graham Norton and the whole system repairs itself.

I see what u did there.

But I am standing by my promise, if the next GTMvision isn't in secret like the previous two were, then I will not be entering.

It's not you, prey.

So if I hadn;t posted, you're saying this conversation would still be going on

Yeah, pretty much. I told Jonzu when this started that the choices should be in secret, and this is exactly the reason why. Besides, I started typing my tirade before you'd voted, but thanks to my terrible internet connection, I could only post it after your votes had been tallied. I've got nothing against you or your votes, I accept that you're being honest in your voting.

I would like to propose that the voting is closed, the official results (including Preytor's) are tallied and posted by Jonzu, then the thread is locked immediately. I told Jonzu that the choices must be kept secret for this to work, he didn't listen, and the whole thing has fallen apart. I can only hope that he learns from this next time.

I'm not going to disregard your votes, I would like to see Hard Bot shot down in flames as much as the next person. But I would have liked to see a fair and unbiased tournament, so that this whole sorry debacle wouldn't have happened in the first place. I'll be glad when it's finally over, to be honest.

I'm quite ashamed to say it, but this has turned into a complete travesty. Now, I wouldn't mind if the members had been kept a secret to begin with, but the fact that they were revealed before voting had even started, Hard Bot effectively stealing the song that was in the lead, and the resulting backlash that followed, then this last minute dash to rig the votes so that Hard Bot won't win, this is exactly the sort of political voting that I thought this tournanment was designed to discourage. Now, I know that Hard Bot wouldn't have come forward had the members been kept in secret, and I know that he DEFINITELY wouldn't have come forward had his supposed song been winning at that moment. Ever since that post, the whole thing has gone completely down the toilet. It's been a horrendous tournament, and the next version of this had better be in secret again, otherwise I can promise you that I will NOT be entering. Not after this.

Well, I did try to post a joke, but it got buried under this discussion. I suggest moving to the General Chatter thread with this.

And the thing with help really, is concern in the fact that I'll look stupid if I do so.

You look more stupid saying that - everyone starts somewhere. At one point Click had help, Mad had help, Joe had help, I had help, Nary had help, Sage, SD, Inf, NFX, SM and so on. We recognise that we all start somewhere and just want to help you get better. I helped NFX, Vert and Marty, who all build better than I do now, but don't consider them stupid. You'd be no different if I or anyone else were to properly help you. Can you see why what you say is silly?
Yeah...there's also also the worry that whatever I build somehow turns out to be a clone of something, regardless of whether or not I know about it.
From what I see, just about every combination of robot has been built already. What also doesn't help is the worst part of RA2 for me- sitting in a Bot Lab with a multitude of different parts, and wondering what to do.
For the first part, the klone aspect of it, that is a problem. The game's been going for eight years, almost, so there's less and less unique designs out there. But they definitely are there, provided you look hard enough.

On the second part, you should start out by building something for the rule of cool, which is what I did with Altitude, and through the help fo the forums, that gradually evolved, and eventually became HaleStorm 7, which I feel is one of my best built robots. Build something that you like, and provided that you take on the advice of other members, it'll gradually improve in terms of effectiveness, and you'll improve your building skill as well. =]

Queens Of The Stone Age - The Sky Is Fallin

I think it's probably the song I'd be best at singing, it's kind of just in the right sort of vocal range.

One that Jeremy Vine shared on Dave's Carpool:

A tourist walks into a bar and begins chatting with a Scotsman. Things are initially going well, however when the Scotsman is asked a question, the man sitting opposite him leans forward and verbally assaults the tourist. The tourists asks the Scotsman another question, and he is met with yet more expletives from the Scotsman's companion. Eventually, the tourist asks "Excuse me, but why does your friend keep yelling at me every time I ask you a question?"

Oh, christ, not this again...

Look, there's no hard and fast way of becoming an Advanced User. As VB said, you can earn it by being a high-level builder (Ounce, 123savethewhales, etc.), a good tournament host (G.K.), or putting a good AI pack together (Naryar). The main thing to do, however, is to be a productive and helpful member around the forums. So stop complaining about it and just enjoy yourselves, 'kay? =)

If you're gonna do Plunderbird, I'd love it if you could actually pull the Series 1 version off, with the interchangeable weapons. =] That, and I think it was the coolest looking one of the saga.
For me, I thought Plunderbird 2 was the coolest- it just looked so sleek and cool with its black armour and metal badges and things, of course also having the power to match, particularly when we saw it single-handedly dispatch Dead Metal and Sergeant Bash in the trial   :approve:
It was cool, but I thought it was quite plain as well. It was a superb moment when it disposed of Bash and Dead Metal in the Trials, plus they had the frankly excellent theme song that year. But Plunderbird 1 was the coolest looking one for me, plus the interchangeable weaponry was a brilliant feature. Shame we didn't get to see more of it, it would have been much better than Dreadnaut.
Indeed- the Crowning Music of Awesome was a definite factor in its appeal, too. I wonder if anyone has the lyrics or anything?

When the noise and strength has gone, and power packs depleted
Then the mercy of their foe will surely be defeated
With ball & chain and hammer & saw, metal is destroyed
Gryo-circuits torn apart, cast into the void
Mechanical minds that have no soul and machines that have no fear
Metallic monsters fight it out, as Judgement Day draws near
As the world spins to its doom towards the end of time
The Earth is silent once again from mankinds dirty crime...

Still too tall, probably. I think a RAD would be almost the right height, personally, but it depends on the scale of the robot.

I don't think Hypno-Disc would be possible in that way, even with BFE. An HPZ is just far too tall to be have the disc low enough to the ground. A RAD would give the right height, but would be too slow. It's just not possible without at least .txt editing.

Would Hypno-Disc work with a RAD Weapon Motor? It might be slow, but it'd be accurate.
