You can still ask a mod to change your username to Dracophile...

I'll keep it just for posterity I suppose.

I post a lot.

I have to agree with sage, and Minion and Xterminator has custom coponents.

Yeah some of them were using ][cer weapons and stuff. I just mostly used whatever I had in the game. The overpowered ones were meant to fight against the other overpowered ones (X-Terminator, Minion, Purple Haze, etc)

Quote from: Pwnator;42862
Butt Cheex FTW!!!

Though most aren't combat-effective, they still look very awesome.

And I actually like the idea of using a spin motor to drive a hammer. Sweet. :D

Oh yeah. How did you do Darkside?

Darkside was built sideways and its smokestacks are simply self-righting mechanisms. It begins the fight flipped onto its side and from there I just pop the burst motor and try to fight normally. For some reason though, Darkside can't turn (it has scrub style steering because you can't mount the car steering part sideways).

Quote from: Naryar;42869
DSL bars aren't the best weapons you got.

I like your complex shell spinner thing with Magmotor drills on it, though.

Also are these Buster Blade teeth on your Bad News ? Aren't these unbalanced ?

Bad News does use the Buster teeth, and yes they are unbalanced. :P

Quote from: Somebody;42879
We got an AI for that now.

Also

On Bad News and Circular Motions, are those DSL 1 Beater bars or something?

That's amazing that something like KROC can be AI'ed. Back in my day that was just wishful thinking. You guys have come a long way. Circular Motions doesn't use any beater bars, it used one piece of a drum with some spikes on it. I don't remember what the spikes were from.

Quote from: System32;42892
Nice bots. Some of these are pretty effective for Stock Realistic* bots.

*Don't think of it guys, these babies are old like the BBEANS 1 contestants. We need some decent Realistic stock builders here....

I only build things realistic, which is how the original AI was and how the game was meant to be played. Sometimes I splurged a little and made something really far out and crazy (666, etc) but for the most part I enjoyed playing the game with robots that you could build in real life if you wanted to. My AI pack(s) reflect that sentiment. Out of 180 robots only 10 or so were really zany and unrealistic.

Quote from: RedlineM203;42908
Suppose they were good for their time.

It's all I seem to be able to do (maybe excluding decent), so hmm.

Holy crap are you Ryan, the guy who tagged around with Technex?

Quote from: Reier;42921
RFS: Actually Antweights are 0-125 and Beetleweights are 125-175.

Has it always been that way? That's strange. I distinctly remember fighting them as ants against other people, maybe the weight allocations have changed?

Quote from: roboman2444;42925
the robots here are realistic... but wont stand a chance against most starcore v3 bots.
that is the only problem with the real world(IT SUCKS!)

As smart as a guy that Starcore was, I hated his AI packs - like I mentioned earlier I enjoyed realistic designs. Starcore's AI pack was PERFECT for the players who liked to stack motors and enhance spinners with burst glitches and using AAM to design things, but that wasn't my thing so I never really enjoyed the pack as much as others did.

However Starcore and I were both insanely good at what we did, for the longest time my AI Pack was the most downloaded ever (according to RA-Reborn's download database counters) and it was only surpassed by Starcore's (and later DSL if you want to count that as an AI pack). There were many other AI packs out there (SoverignII's AI Pack the first AI pack ever, AceUplink's BattleBots pack, I believe ARC made a pack as well, etc) but the two best ones were me and Starcore's, for both kinds of RA2 players. :)

Yeah, it'd be awsome if you guys would start showcases. :gawe:

Okay. I went through some local hard drives I have connected to my computer and found backups from years ago of my "My Pictures" folders, wherein there was a nice collection of robots originally posted from 2003 - 2005, stock and DSL alike.

I'm going to go into detail about some of my personal favorites, but each directory below is chock full of whatever I was able to recover from various installments of My Pictures and the sub-directories inside of them.

(Side Quest: Count the number of Team AceUplink decals on the robots for extra fun.)

Antweights (under 175)
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_ant

Blue Blue is an antweight toting two Redbird motors for drive. It was entered in one of the AceUplink ant contests.

Can Opener's weapon was modeled after an actual can opener.

Circuit Breaker was one of my best antweight robots. Its saw blade really put a damper on its battery power but it was able to tear up opponents left and right.

When it came to None Shall Pass, none did pass. NSP's weapon was two spiked clubs tilted in a way that allowed it to act as both a wedge and a ram.

Ramdozer didn't have a weapon but was damn near impenetrable with his heavy steel armor.

Sidenotes: 2 Wheelin' was an experiment in trying to put the Mud Tires onto an ant. Crazy UFO Hat Bikini was named after a picture on Something Awful. Lemmin Juice 3 was another AU ant entry. Peanut Botta was named after the RA2 multiplayer "placeholder" robot. Some Disassembly Required was built twice with two completely different designs. The Ring was another AU contest entry.
--------------------
Lightweights
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_lw

Deceptitron was a design that looked like a rammer, but had a hidden pneumatic spike that launched out for a surprise attack.

Power Box. I don't know, you tell me.

Sidenotes: Digital Sentinence was a replica of TDS' 30 pound robot. Green Machine was featured in a 3rd party AI pack. Underdawg has a "pop wedge" design.
--------------------
Middleweights
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_mw

Obligatory furry robot Amy Rose.

Butt Cheex. More legendary than me.

Digital Dragon 2 was my last AU tournament entry. It's invertible and Forward is always forward regardless of its orientation.

Rift Blade: Samurai Warrior brandished three samurai swords on an HP ZTek motor. Once it got spinning there was no stopping it.

Sidenotes: CrapBot 2000 was my very first robot. Harmony Bunny was named after a character in the Powerpuff Girls. Mexican Pizza was my second-ever robot. Wimpy is a replica of the RA1 robot of the same name.
--------------------
Heavyweights
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_hw

The only thing American Dream is missing in this picture is a bikini model waxing it.

Apocalypse NOW! was kinda named after that movie, but was also the third robot I ever made.

Billboard was a curious robot that could literally throw an opponent into the roof of the Combat Zone. It was prone to tipping over though. On the reverse side of the sign there's a dragon saying "RAWR!"

Bot X was my attempt at a FrenZy style robot, its hammer could swing back and forth and land in some crushing blows.

Crash Boom Bang was one of my favorite robots that made use of Some Kinda Zombie's hyper reversible angle motor. When its sledgehammers got spinning it was impossible to stop and the pain was dealt out big time.

Darkside is a semi-truck inspired by the Twisted Metal Black version of this vehicle.

Evil Con Carne was the perfection of the FrenZy design.

Flip You Off. Get it?

Time has been very kind to Head Splitter 3. Last time I played using this robot it was capable of taking down tough Starcore AI.

Purple Haze made use of the AU BB AI spikes, the ones that dealt like a million points of damage out per hit. It's over-powered but was built to take on my other robot Minion usually piloted by one of my friends in heated head to head battles.

Rock N Roller, named after a Vectorman boss. The very first multibot in RA2.

See N Say Of Pain was a show-bot, but it caught on with the community and soon there was more than one of these floating around out there.

You've just been THUMPERIZED.

Transformer was capable of expanding its drive system for close combat or for maneuverability.

Wazzzup! was a robot that had enough AU decals on it that it was used in the official AU robot showcase banner. I was banned during this time, though.

Wooden Warrior (seen here in version number six) wasn't actually made of wood, but it was a nice texture and an even better fighter. It's one of my absolute personal favorites and makes an RFS AI appearance in the "RFS" team.

Sidenotes: Administrator of Pain isn't a TDS joke but it was an attempt at making chain flails. Armorgedden has two pistons inside of its wedge to throw opponents on their backs, this weaponry was explored again in the RFS AI robot Telekinesis. Balls of Steel was my first "series" robot, it was built and rebuilt over 10 times. Blood Dumpster is a nod to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, it was the name of Zorak's proposed horror flick. Carl's Robot featured by ATHF Carl soundboard part, it would spout out one-liners such as "GET OUTTA MY FRIKKIN POOL" and other quotables from ATHF season 1. Coffee Grinder's plan was to toss opponents into the air and catch them in the grinder. Fire Wheel had 4 flamethrowers mounted on a spinning disc, it threw fire out in all directions. Undercover Undercutter made an appearance in another 3rd party AI pack.
--------------------
Super Heavyweights (over 800)
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_shw

666 swings 12 saw blades around like nobody's business.

Minion was modeled not after the robot of BattleBots fame, but after the demonic tank from the Twisted Metal game series. It's seen here with a TM3 paint job and a spike array matching the Minion tanker truck from TM Black.

The X-Terminator has about a million weapons. Seriously.

Sidenotes: 25C Crane Machine was an experiment in trying to pick up an opponent, it didn't work.
--------------------
DSL
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_dsl

Bad News has the appearance of an angry Dorito and the steering of a highly sedated rhino. Slow as all heck and difficult to turn but still capable of pushing over a train and ruining your day.

Circular Motions was capable of slowly disassembling its opponents by grinding it apart piece by piece.

Destructo Thingy has the biggest disc with giant blades on it. Just for the heck of it.

K.R.O.C. (Killer Robot on Crack, but also KROC as in Crocodile) could rotate its weapon 360 degrees and strike from any angle.

TORM was a robot that fared well against most designs and was included in the RFS DSL AI pack.

Unnecessarily Irrellevant had a double layered blade that made for clean smooth cuts and a pretty much unstoppable weapon.

Sidenotes: Blast Cannister and Credit Card Shredding Machine were two DSL antweights that threw themselves out of control with every full force blow. Food For Thought was originally made as a DSL tourney entry. Mal De Ojo was an RFSHQ tourney entry.
--------------------
Replicas
http://www.gatoraids.com/directories/dracophile/ra2_replica

This was a real antweight robot I made. This replica is in the "RFS" team on the RFS AI Pack.

Sidenotes: Complete Control was made a couple of days after I bought RA2.

February 18th, 2003: Robot Arena 2 is released. I got my copy the day it came out, and I joined AceUplink on March 16th, 2003. RFSHQ opened February 12th, 2004. :3

I was "around" on AceUplink back when it was known as RoboUplink, in the days of the original Robot Arena. SimTycoon (JFranco) was mad at me for calling it RobotUplink on accident.

BTW, was DSL out before you guys left? You should check out Naryar's, Urjak's, MikeNCR's, Mine, R0B0SH4RK's etc for some cool bots.

Yep, I was here when DSL came out and also for some time after that. I created a promotional RFS DSL AI Pack V1.0 for the DSL mod where I updated some of the bots/teams from my previous stock AI packs and also spiced in some new ones for good measure.

I could go to the workshop and pick up my copy of RA2 I suppose, however most of the bots I actually DO have are just the ones that went into my AI packs. I think I have some old pictures though, I will do some searching for you guys. Special.

Quote from: System32;42815
Who cares about the bots, we have two oldies back. Kinda. Ok, one. I'm sure dracophile will go back to GatorAIDS. (I still love that name.)

Anyway, Deep blue is a non invertible poker? if so, I go for tha thumperizer. But in a lighter note, should we have a tha thumperiser based bot for the new Starcore AI? We have got Ultra Violence... (A play on Ultraviolet which in other words is DEEPER blue...)

GatorAIDS... hehehe. I'd love to see an updated "modern" Thumperizer. For a simple robot design the name went on to be a really annoying AU forum fad. :P

Quote from: Jack Daniels;42816
I appreciate having you veterans kicking around. Can we all gather around the campfire and you can tell us bot stories?

Stick to these forums, we all have a pretty good time still. This game is certainly not dead by any stretch of imagination, and heck, it is still evolving as we speak.

Even though I never met you before, welcome back.

Much like Will Smith, I AM LEGEND, hur hur. :P Okay, you all got me. I will try not to be a stranger anymore. Despite the fact that it PAINS ME GREATLY to still carry "Radio F Software" here I'll kick around. :P

LOL snipe1040....

hahah, It's all good Radio (I wont call you Justin :approve:)

We've both got our own lives now... I'm actually very impressed that you addressed this personally. I hope this can maybe be an example to the younger kids on here that e-fights are kind dumb.

Maybe we can dust off some bots and go at it once for ole' time sake... what ya think? :gunz:....

That's right kiddos - the Internet is not really SRS BIZNEZZ (a catchphrase that wasn't even around in 2003), it's only Internet. :P

I came out of the woodwork because a little birdy told me that "someone from RA2 history came back to GTM... and ratted on you in his first post", and at first I was like "haha it's COLONMAN/Chexmix (COOL MAN aka Technex) isn't it?" and my buddy said "no, it's MAD actually". And then I was like, "oh... well crap he hated the heck out of me :(".

I'd battle ya (Thumperizer V Deep Blue) but I've gone through two computers since AceUplink, bro - RA2 is no longer installed on my hard drive. I backed up my files onto a few CDs, but they're in storage across town from where I live. Collecting dust. :(

I still don't have a decent Internet connection six years later anyways. :P

edit:
Quote from: MAD Scientist
Back then I took all of it really personally, kinda silly in retrospect, AU was a group of my friends. We spent ALOT of time experimenting w/ everything the game had to offer and threw days of our lives into it, kinda like how crazy kids are about W.O.W. now.

Meh, it was "personal" on my half too. I was really caught up in it and such, TOO far caught up in things, because to be honest at the time I was pretty screwed up (mentally, at least). It wasn't my idea to take the fight IRL (the phone thing), that was a third party suggestion that I laughed at, but they decided to take it way to goddamn seriously.

As for WOW addiction, these my "re-discovered" interest in dragons and reptiles drives me these days. Things were wacky with me in the past because I started trying to be somebody I wasn't, and now that I've just gone back to what seems like I was "meant" to do I've been a lot better. Went on a date today to go see Land of the Lost with "Mrs. Dracophile" - and I had a plush Spyro to give to her, and she had a plush T-Rex and a copy of "How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight" for me. :3

These days I mostly try to be a role model for the youngin's on Club Penguin (a company I work with by proxy from my position at Miniclip) since they're all about 13 years old - try to get them not to make the same stupid mistakes I did. I've tried to bury the hatchet with everyone else I've crossed with in the past. I made amends with AW and CARP on their robot combat website a couple years ago by giving them a bunch of photos and such for their archives.

I have since discovered that the rich history of this game has been erased by our dear old friends @ RadioF's forums, whom have edited most open source information on the game and has claimed most of the credit for the progression of the community.

Well howdy doody, looks like you're still alive and kicking - and **** you too buddy. :) It's not MY fault that I took it upon myself to collaborate with some incredibly intelligent and like-minded modders of the game to lay down a format to build upon the game in numerous ways. Myself and my "cronies" created AI expansions that, at the time, revolutionized the Robot Arena 2 modding community.

AceUplink managed to make a BattleBots AI pack (extremely well modded I give you that much, it was beautiful) that ranked up there with "nice to look at but goddamn impossible". What did AU do for the community, really? You all released some modifications but nothing that really gave way to build upon things in the way that myself, Disturbed, Goose, and Starcore decided to take further. In fact, in an ironic kind of way, you led us all together. You can claim a piece of that credit for yourself because without AceUplink there probably would not have been any RFS AI Pack, Starcore AI Pack, or even the DSL mod to blow the game wide open.

If it gives you any solace, Radio F (which began in 1995) disbanded in 2008. I retired from RFSHQ in June of that year to pursue my life where I left off when I hopped on the RA2 bandwagon. I have gone back to being a furry/scaly writer and artist and found a special Mrs. RFS to share the happiness with. I've also ditched the "Radio F Software" moniker and I go by "Dracophile" now - a username that took me 7 years to replace the "temporary" RFS with, but one that personally fits me a lot better. You have full permission to laugh at me if you will because I know I deserve it, but I've done a ****ton of growing up since AceUplink. I rubbed a lot of sh** in your collective faces for no real reason and I am most likely wholly responsible for completely ****ing your website up in every way imaginable. I realize it got to the point where registration was basically blocked off because I had about 3 new accounts a week that went under the radar.

Yes, I did start RFSHQ to completely and absolutely ruin AceUplink. I was out to "do better than you", and that's exactly why we opened on February 12th, 2004 - your domain's "roll over" date (we became the comedy site on May 9th, 2004). When the site opened I was looking to hoard everyone who was banned or disgruntled with AceUplink so that we could build a community that would out-class yours. A little while into the RFSHQ timeline I realized that this was pretty ****ing stupid and I stopped. RFSHQ was an experiment, a joke, and some strange project that took on a life of its own and perpetuated itself on a conglomeration of mostly negative things. The proof is in the pudding, RFSHQ tried way too hard to be like Something Awful and it pretty much blew apart. I created the website with hate in mind and when I wanted to make something out of it I was always reminded of the ill-intent that made the place.

Things could have probably ended a heck of a lot better, but from the beginning I kind of felt like I wasn't wanted there in the first place once I had seen that AW and the others were like "wow ANOTHER mod, and it's THIS guy?" Kind of disheartening to an extent. Sim, AW, and TDS could have handled my resignation a little better than they did, and I probably could have done without throwing a complete bitch fit on the forums that lasted Nth months. It was a cluster**** on both sides, if I knew now what I knew then.

I hold no grudge with you, MAD, or anybody else at AceUplink; but I realize that you probably would still like to see me eaten alive by wolves or something and I honestly don't blame you. The reasoning behind my demeanor at AceUplink is both lengthy and personal, and I'll spare you the insightful monologue (that I'd rather not be public information anyways).

I'm sorry.

PS: I apologize for ****ing up your telephone, something you wanted to blame on me when it wasn't actually my fault in the first place - but that's a conversation from 2003 and water under the bridge. I work for Miniclip.com now and I have since been harassed and threatened by troublemakers who see ME as a "Nazi" and have my contact information and haven't been shy about calling me and saying bizarre things. What goes around comes around, I got what was coming to me.

PPS: We inherited the download database from HackerX's and Nanaman's RA-Reborn. Anything they did to the files was their own idea, we just took up hosting them. We didn't strip anything from any tutorials.

PPP?S: Don't call me Justin, Anthony. Really. :(

P4S: Can I just say "snipe1040" and we can all just laugh and forget about this? :)

:( It's a big shock to read this, I just thought she had disappeared like she's done off and on every and and then. I'm glad she got to see her work though.

Lu-Tze wasn't someone I talked to on a regular basis or anything, but she was one of the few people I've known on message boards that actually spoke to and helped out the other members, something not a whole lot of modders do.

RIP Lu-Tze, you will be missed. :(
