I use Paint Shop Pro 7. Old as dust, but does 90% of what Photoshop does and for no cost. And I agree with the pointlessness, but they're nice uncomplicated objects to get started with and to show the quality of the textures.

Sure. it'd be no problem to open myself up to skinning bots either.

Decided to start a new topic in the appropriate place. Started to reskin a few items , planning to do both Stock and DSL components. But I am also posting this to offer my services to skin components and bots for people too! Can either be realistic or silly/fun skins. Requests can be made here or via PM. With that said, here's something that everyone uses to kick things off: Big Volt replacement Nifty replacement

Fingers crossed I can do reasonably well, although thats probably misplaced hope against the other three i'm facing. Btw, if all goes well this'll kick of my trend of entering previous tourney/showcase bots in competitions.

Still working. I'm not trying to annoy you, I genuinely cannot make RA2 crash with these textures

Yes I edited the motor's skins, after I tested them in Stock to see if I could replicate these crashes. I did 3 matches in Stock with AI bots and my own bots, which have motors visible, and I had 0 crashes. If someone else could test these in their game and report back it'd help, but right now I can't replicate these crashes you're having.

My apologies. However, I guess if you ever decide to do a DSL Lite... On the motors thing though, that may just be RA2-specific. Testing in DSL, exhibition matches with both AI bots and my own, i've not come had any crashes.

Download, extract and overwrite files.Broken, check page 4.
Knocked them down to 16x16, both bmp and tga files. Shrunk the total size by about half.

In order to contribute and not just slow this down, i'm working on resizing the .bmp and .tga files in the Components folder to cut down sizes there.

Goddamn pit, although it looked like I had some naff navigating going on in that rumble. Oh well, teaches me to build a better bot next time.

BTSHDBBDDTBL: Scavenger (Looked cool, fought like butt.) BTDBTEPDTGL: Anorexia (Did this have invisible self-righters? How did this survive?) Coolest Bot: Scavenger (Took Razer and somehow made it even more cool.) SFTW: Reincarnated Ronin (Trolls would actually put effort into something.) Scariest Bot: 518. (Looked like a killer.) Originality Award: Selling Raw Lobbies... (From a flipper to a axe.) Best Moment: Wheely Big Cheese eating everything in sight. (The opponent, the arena. Itself. ON NOM NOM) Best Fight: Final (4 entertaining fights.)

Epic final was epic. Regardless of the result, I have to come clean and say I got Anorexia completely wrong. It fell over a lot. But it got back up too. Great final for a great tournament.

You've basically banned flippers.
Great thing i was planning on entering a flipper.
Thanks a lot.
He's basically not, and I basically worded those two suggested rules so that: a) it gets rid of completely horizontal wedges that don't exist in real life due to floors never being perfectly even. And b) it prevents replacing hinges with burst motors that have no other function than to make a wedge, as is the case in unrealistic Stock and DSL designs. Flippers are still valid, a good builder will still be able to make an effective flipper.

Without wanting to completely detach from the original and make something freaky (*coughNarAIcough*), but wanting to 'upgrade' the DSL 2.1 bot. NPC Fasts + hypnos with better protection. Stronger armour (10mm plastic over 5mm tite), sorted the batteries, and designed to be a rammer if the flippers are knocked off.

- Any burst motor is to be used only for flipping/self-righting purposes. What about hammers?
I apologise, i've appended my post to make it clear I meant flipping devices (Skirts, wedges, flippermaker parts). Thank you for noticing that.

My two cents on this discussion would be to add two rules, which may help with this tournament, and overall might help define 'IRL' building in Robot Arena 2.
- No skirt hinge/metal hinge may be attached at baseplate level - i.e the component must be raised off the baseplate. - Any flipping device attached to a burst motor is to be used only for flipping/self-righting purposes.
First negates using them for wedges whilst still allowing them to be used for side skirts, much like Biohazard/Panic Attack/MikeNCR's demonstrated bots. And the second still allows the use of metal skirts, but they must be functional to the robot.

I would offer to help as that last image is doable, but there is a lot of mapping errors with the plows. This may not be a huge thing to people, but to me it is incredibly annoying. So it's up to you if you'd like it anyway.

Congrats to SKBT and all, but that bot is quite unsatisfying to watch.

DP: I re-made RAFtor with a 512x512 skin, then it struck me that it looked familiar... and boom.
