There's really no room, any further in and the drive motors (mags) won't go because of the perm.
Rebuilding is key. Most the time I end up re-doing the chassis on my IRL bots at least 3 times before I get the chassis right

Instead of flipper makers, you can use beater bars or 1 40cm tite/steel skirt.
Also alum is bad, plastic and tite are the best choices if you war looking to get the most protection for your weight.
