Modifications / Re: Bot Exchange (WIP)
« on: April 23, 2013, 06:53:55 PM »
I skipped last week's update but I assure you that I made quite a bit of progress in the past two weeks. In fact, I'm almost ready to release a beta version for people to test. I updated the first page not to long ago so it is up-to-date.

Contests / Re: Arena Blueprint Contest (poll ends 4/24/13)

There is a little less than a day left before the poll closes. This could be your last chance to vote or change your mind. It is a really close race so your vote could really make a difference in the results.

Any tournaments that require entries from people need to go through the poll first (you can read about the process here). We've had problems in the past with people starting tournaments when they weren't ready for them so the rules were instated to prevent it.

Edit: The thread that Naryar linked to also talks about the polling process.

General Support / Re: Problems with Bot Exporter!

If you are using windows 7 or 8, you can change the virtual environment that the program runs in.

Off the top of my head, you just need to do something like this: (I'm not running windows ATM)
1. Right-click the executable
2. Go to properties
3. Switch to the compatibility tab
4. Change it to a version of windows that you think it would work in
5. Try it out (repeat until it works or you run out of options)

Have you tried using the compatibility modes?

Have you tried downloading/installing COMDLG32.OCX?

It isn't a problem with your operating system or the number of bits that it uses (I use it all the time on my 64 bit machines).

Edit: Perhaps this may be of assistance to you.

Before downloading it, it should be 183 MB but after downloading it, it turned out to be bigger on my linux machine. For that reason, the sizes probably weren't as accurate as they could have been (I just didn't want to start up windows just to get the proper sizes).

Prismatics would work to move the train. Just set the floor as the base and the train as the moving part (a parent node would work fine).

I'm not sure why it isn't working for you so I'll give you a rough step-by-step:
  • Download the version of DSL found here.
  • After the download right-click the file open up the Properties window. It should say that the file is about 192.2 MB. If it isn't, close out of the properties window and re-download the file. Otherwise, close out of the properties window and proceed to the next step.
  • Open the file using WinRAR or 7Zip and hit Ctrl+A (select all) then Ctrl+C (copy). It should have selected the DSL 2.1 folder and made a copy of it.
  • Leaving the program open, go to your desktop and hit Ctrl+V to paste the folder that you copied (you can move it later). Make sure that the file is completely transferred before moving on to the next step.
  • Select the folder and go into properties to make sure that it is 489.8 MB. If not, report back here. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  • Open the folder and start up RA2. If it crashes during the startup process, report back here. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  • Make sure everything else is working and report back here regardless of whether you got an error or not.

What did you attach the disk to? I can't figure out why you made the chassis so tall and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

I love the camera that you used  :dumb)

Also, I find it unfortunate that you didn't get very many entries. A simpler set of rules would undoubtedly work better in the future.

Overall, I enjoyed watching your tournament and hope that you continue to do more.

Skinned Barrabis but how do you put up a download?
Depends on what you are uploading...
  • If you are uploading the skin, you can use the GTM image host.
  • If you are uploading the bot file, you can use the BotExchange.
  • If you are uploading the bot with other stuff, you can use the file host.
  • If you are still unsure of where it goes, use the file host.

If stock works then it is a problem with your copy of DSL TC (not your hardware or operating system). Re-download the ready to go version or install DSL manually on top of a working copy of stock RA2.

Although I don't think it matters in your case, you shouldn't be extracting the "Ready to Go" version of DSL onto your copy of stock. It may cause problems if you have modified your stock game in any way.

Contests / Re: Arena Blueprint Contest (poll ends 4/24/13)
« on: April 17, 2013, 01:08:55 PM »
The poll has started.

Please remember that one of the primary points of this contest is to determine an arena that will be made into a tutorial. Ideally, I would want the complexity, difficulty, and personal enjoyment to be your determining factors but you may vote in any way that you see fit.

"The Sawmill"

please excuse my horrible drawing.

KEY=
1 - 4: start positions, 1 = player 1, and so on.
5: vertically spinning gigantic-ass saws that spin and inflict moderate to severe damage (800-1000 or so), should not cause OOTA's
6: flipper. dumps you into 7 after a bot is on there for 2.5 seconds
7: lava pit. similar to electric arena 2's/AON2 arena's damaging pit(s), shouldnt toss the bot as far though
8: wall. does some damage, mostly like the epic showdown arena's wall though, damaging and around the height of 3 grape boxes in the practice arena. wall around saws and pits are raised to avoid OOTA
Neat ideas. Everything looks doable so I'll add you to the entries list.

Less than two hours left for people to get there entries in.

For those of you are still working on your entries, please try to get them in ASAP.

The deadline is April 15, 2013, 11:59:00 PM which roughly equates to no more time...

Edit: Don't forget that valid participants may still change their entries until the deadline expires. However, only the most recent valid entry will be used and invalid entries have 24 hours to become valid after I say they are not.

Tournament Archives / Re: NORMIES VS FREAKS tournament
« on: April 13, 2013, 04:27:51 PM »
The complicated tournament rules were first instated by JoeBlo back in 2010 after we received an insurge of people that wanted to host but were unable to follow through. It worked in preventing tournament bailing but it also made starting new tournaments harder (which is why I've been working on a new system and why I linked the other thread). Tournament bailing has picked up quite a bit in the last year but it is nowhere near as bad as it was before the rules. Another benefit of the system is that it has distributed the number of active tournaments throughout the year so that we don't have as many dry spells. As it stands, the system also takes quite a bit of effort to maintain so simplifying it is one of my goals.

Nobody is denying that the rules need a makeover but, as I've already stated, work is being done on it. Sylandro got into the active tournaments list because the poll was lacking entries (something that I was unable to prevent). Also, the only way that we could have prevented anticipated a problem with Sylandro's tournament would have been if we made the hosts jump through more hoops (your argument seems to suggest that you want less hoops for hosts).

I will start the sign ups VERY soon, when my entries are ready.

Anything, that I'm missing guys?
Just this...
When 3 places are open within the Tournaments in Progress (for Entry Level tournaments) all Discussed Entry Level tournaments with a Green Tick will be added to a 5 day poll.

In this thread, I proposed some possible rule changes but they still wouldn't guarantee you a spot in signups any time soon (especially since I haven't implemented them yet).

I like to think that I would have been disappointed with him even if I wasn't the one that cleaned up his mess. I can't imagine myself doing anything like that to another website so it is hard for me to see the humor in it.

That's what you are trying to make of it. If you have a problem with Inf, take it to the PMs and do whatever.

Also, making such a big thread for just a tournament prize what would be shown in the thread of the tournament itself is completely useless.
I completely agree.
