I kinda like the idea, honestly.  Not sure how effective they can be, but might be interesting at least.

I like your original idea with the AW/ BW Tag Team. That would be a sweat tourney not so thrilled about the idea if one bot gets destroyed then the you have switch out and replace it seems like it would be to time consuming making all the videos. You should make a poll of the different ideas for this tourney  .

yeah, it's gonna take awhile, no doubt.  But if you guys are willing to watch them, i'm willing to record them.  I got plenty of time on my hands.  get 3 days in a row off of work each week.  If the videos get too long, i could even edit them down to just be 'highlight' videos and do a writeup of the full match.

I actually hate the idea of having to stop the match and restart.  But it's the only way (that i know of) to get the effect.  In a perfect world, when one bot gets eliminated, the new one would just enter the match in progress.  The idea was inspired by the old Survivor Series matches in  WWF(E, whatever).

It looks great.  I can't make an effective lw hammer to save my life. Everytime i even got close it was near this design though.  Good job.

Very nice. Though in this case, a baseplate anchor would be lighter and stronger than using a ME and a flipper segment.

And I think a lighter component would do for the srimech. You could use the free weight to add some armor against shell spinners. :D

Okay, now i feel like a moron.  Was wracking my brain trying to get the angle of it like i wanted, and this was the best i could come up with.  It completely slipped my mind that anchors can be angled.  Simplicity eludes me once more.

Yes, definately a rule there, all 3 must be different bot types.  Will also put a restriction on the amount of flails on any bot...probably extremely low.  These matches can go on forever, i don't want to have to restart due to havocs if i can avoid it.  Thinking 2 flails max per bot.

My original intention was to hold this in the combat arena, but i'm thinking now the dsl tournament arena would be better.  Allows flippers to stand a chance, and can lower the match times significantly.

Some say that i am a Whill, but Lucas denies it.  Truth be told, i am a mutt.

Because he made the arcade his female dog? been playing some of those games longer than most of these younglings have been alive..lol

Well he's got other things going for him:
-He can record and post online just fine.
-Seems like a competent builder (which should reflect potential AI skills as well) it's the 'potential' part that's making me hold off for now
-He does not seem to have advanced stages of ADD just a slight case of lysdexia

Go for it Yoda!

Haha. Actually, I didn't mean to. Seems that I contributed to a massive thread hijack huh?

Quick Yoda! Show us some more droids and get us back on track. :P

Great timing, jack.  I just got done with these. and if a thread is gonna get hijacked, might as well be due to alcohol :P

A series of Droids with a theme of the Seven Deadly Sins... First up, Envy.

Would it be called an angled face spinner?  anyway, tite 3 armor, 5 ants.  One of my few forays into middleweight territory.  More to come later

509
ok.
but does the user-team thing work as well?

I'd rather it be each entrant does his own team.  I've noticed some people are really good at heavyweights, but not so good with lightweights.  It's a chance to kind of branch out and get out of comfort zones.

If these are rumbles this is going to be spammed with flail shell spinners and SnS.

Maybe put some restrictions on it.  1 shell spinner/sns per team?  maybe even ban them entirely, even though I don't like the idea of flat out banning a bot type,  I want to see variety in this more than anything.

Oh, and....
Yoda is no n00b. He has the skills to run a tourney.
good planning skills yoda has

Thanks guys

After a little more testing, I think i might even drop it down to teams of 3 (LW, MW, HW)  to cut down on the time of each match.  Easier on me, and on the entrants as well, not to mention it starts getting a bit boring with 6 bots per team.    Might even be better to make it rumble matches, with 4 teams going in one battle. start with all lw's, and continue from there.

and yeah, definately keep the number of entrants low on this

Oh, it'll be quite some time before this gets going.  Again, i'm just seeing the reaction to the basic premise right now.

Tournament Archives / Survival of the Fittest (testing the waters)
« on: April 07, 2010, 05:59:48 PM »
So, weird idea for a tournament here.  Just wanting to see what kind of interest there would be in it.  I haven't decided yet if i want to run it or not, but am curious about the reaction it would get.

Anyway, instead of submitting one bot, each entrant would submit a team of bots, consisting of an antweight, beetleweight, lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight.

Matches are team matches.  It starts out with the AW and the BW of a team facing off against the AW and BW of the other.  As soon as one bot is eliminated, the match is stopped.  A new match is started with the next weightclass bot replacing the one that got eliminated.  So on and so forth until one team is out of bots.

In the event of time running out, the bot with the lowest point total is the one eliminated.
In the highly unlikely event of a tie, whether 2 bots being eliminated at the exact same time or 2 bots at the end of the match being tied for lowest points, both bots are eliminated.

Comments? Further ideas? yay or nay?

When i made Doom Dreidel, a friend of mine was here with me.  We were joking that it'd probably be the easiest bot in the world to AI.  Now, I come here and see a question about AI'ing his offspring (and mega upgrade).  Thanks for ruining my joke, 123 :P

So, i've got them facing where the flat side hits, that's good, right?

just curious, have you tried replacing the beater bars with DS Light Teeth?

hadn't before, thought they'd be too brittle for this.  But, gave it a shot. here's what i came up with

freed up some weight, so i changed the drive motors up, as well as took nar's advice and widened it abit.  upgraded his arms from irons to the hammerheads, and still have nearly 50 kg left over.  he's a bit faster now, loads of more damage and still just as fun.  cheers

guess it is a bit hard to see in that pic. But yeah, there's 2 crammed in there under the control board.

Servo half-crawler ?

It looks very underpowered to me.

Edit: And you might use also TWM3s since they have more hitpoints than the drive TWM3Rs and if your drivetrain is wider, it will increase your turnspeed.

2 ants aren't enough for 2 drive motors and 2 servos? I thought it would cover it. Regardless, haven't noticed any power issues with him.  And most of the time, i don't need to turn anyway, he just goes back and forth.  Anyway, more of an experiment than anything.

Here's a video of the little guy in action...

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Most rEtArDeD show ever?
« on: April 05, 2010, 06:22:08 AM »
Many moons ago, there was a show about a cop and his canine partner.  In the line of duty, the cop got killed and somehow his conciousness transferred over to the dog.  Voila, a sitcom about a talking dog.  Does the premise sound bad? twas nothing compared to the writing, the acting, the individual plots and even the camerawork.

Thankfully, i've long ago forgotten the name of this show.  But it's got my vote for worst show ever.  That's saying something, since i grew up in the 80s and we had some real stinkers.

Time for a new bot.  Here we have Tom Servo

Invertible? Forget it.  REVERSIBLE.   Opponent get behind you and trap you against the wall? just push the other direction on the controller, the chassis spins and the wheels flip to the otherside, meaning you're facing the opponent again, attack like normal.    Wheels break off?  suddenly, he's a crawler.

Sorry for the bad 'riffs' up there.  it's 6 in the morning, and i'm no Mike Nelson, or Joel Robinson.

Very nice, Joe.  took me a second to see that the 181065 was actually two different hits though. lol.  But after picking my jaw up off the desk, i still appreciate this bot. Any control over it or does it just spin away and pray?
