And the thing with help really, is concern in the fact that I'll look stupid if I do so.
You look more stupid saying that - everyone starts somewhere. At one point Click had help, Mad had help, Joe had help, I had help, Nary had help, Sage, SD, Inf, NFX, SM and so on. We recognise that we all start somewhere and just want to help you get better. I helped NFX, Vert and Marty, who all build better than I do now, but don't consider them stupid. You'd be no different if I or anyone else were to properly help you. Can you see why what you say is silly?
Yeah...there's also also the worry that whatever I build somehow turns out to be a clone of something, regardless of whether or not I know about it.
From what I see, just about every combination of robot has been built already. What also doesn't help is the worst part of RA2 for me- sitting in a Bot Lab with a multitude of different parts, and wondering what to do.
For the first part, the klone aspect of it, that is a problem. The game's been going for eight years, almost, so there's less and less unique designs out there. But they definitely are there, provided you look hard enough.
On the second part, you should start out by building something for the rule of cool, which is what I did with Altitude, and through the help fo the forums, that gradually evolved, and eventually became HaleStorm 7, which I feel is one of my best built robots. Build something that you like, and provided that you take on the advice of other members, it'll gradually improve in terms of effectiveness, and you'll improve your building skill as well. =]
Perhaps, but I'll bet that when I do find one, someone else posts it first. As for the "Rule of Cool" bots, it's also a bit hard when you have no Photoshop or anything similar to create cool skins with. However, I did notice that it worked with Trial by Fire- maybe I'll get some practice in on that front, then.

In all fairness - MM, TTT and BBTB 2 are fair triumphs - I seem to remember him taking down some much more favoured competitors in BTTB 2. However, he wasn't a semifinalist or even quaterfinalist in the tournament.
Also US vs UK was replicas.
Sorry about that- I didn't remember where I came. All I remember was losing to Yoda with a remake of my own robot in the later stages :P

No, I mean you haven't won or finished high in a tournament. Or have you? I honestly cannot remember.
I have on a few occasions-
- Champion of Metal Mayhem (Jonzy's tournament, actually :P) - MeaCulpa II
- Runner-up in Tag Team Tussle - Morbid Angel
Klone (I'd prefer it if you didn't use that word. It's something on GTM that I particularly hate. And MC2 wasn't as much a copy as it was a design with elements of the three- the only really similar thing to Wedge Tracker was its paintjob)
- Third Place in Replica Wars (and got the Coolest Robot award) - Cassius II
It's a replica, has nothing to do with actual building quality (And?)
- Joint-third in US vs UK - Spitfire
never seen it tbh (You should have a look- it was quite good)
- Loser's Bracket Semi-Finalist in BTTB2 - Son of MSHD
Semi-finalist could just be from beating noobs, it was also in the losers bracket so... (Not necessarily- I remember at least taking out The Ounce in there)
- Twice Semi-Finalist in Replica Wars 2 and 3 - Purse and Kronic
Again replicas :P (What is it with you and replicas?)
- Third Place in the Wildcard in BBEANS6 - Mr. Punch
wildcard? Well anyway it isnt the greatest (but i have seen worse, so don't worry too much :P) (I realise, but I just felt like mentioning that I was indeed in one BBEANS...or at least I would've been if those n00bs hadn't taken all the places. Particularly Spark's entry- that was awful)
