It's double elimination now. Wish it was that in the groups so I would've seen a rematch with that VS.

First playoff match is up!
Am I missing the joke here or why is most of the video empty and the intro missing?

TONIGHT:

Some Dutch lads with GF93's favourite bot, Harry Potter (Sorry Will totally borrowing from Dave), A Whale Wrangler, a trio of foxy boiz, some spinny ones and more take to the arena.
8 and a half hours to go.

Who is everyone's prediction to take this heat?
Checked the bots for tonight, it's kinda hard to do a prediction if you don't know how well those bots work/if they get totally smashed up in one fight. I'm surprised to see more thwackers, do they all now have 4 motors to swing the weapon without using the drive? Apparently the active weapon rule is still in place. Loving to see more lifters, they seemed to be kinda gone after the starts of robot combat and my first bot would most likely be a lifter as well.

Thinking that Tough as Nails will take this, with Foxic as second place, the other bots all seem to have a certain weakness which can be really used against them. Could go into the details here but think that's enough.

Think you should directly attach those spinner teeth on the spinner instead of placing extenders on there first. it might be better to go back to the Vlad spikes so the disk is lower to the ground(and can hit away wedges) Looks good otherwise.

Discussion / Re: How do you Stack?/Your way of Stacking stuff
« on: July 31, 2016, 07:36:56 AM »
Thanks for all the answers, this was what I was hoping for.
Looking back at Sage's video as well as what Thrack and Hi5er posted, I think I did something like that, tried it out on a bot where I tried stacking for half an hour before and got the stack done in 2 minutes.
Yesterday I did some stacking experiments and got the following done:

The top one is almost stacked at the same position. I've never BFE'd before but I think those are the lines that show position:
Code: [Select]
0
0
1
0.0729231 0 0.0435736
0.707107 0 0 0.707107
0 0
Battery
Components\supervolt battery.txt
0
0
1
0.0729036 -1.19209e-007 0.0464111
0.707107 0 0 0.707107
0 0
Battery
Components\supervolt battery.txt
0.0729231 vs 0.0729036 (0.0000195 difference) and 0.0435736 vs 0.0464111 (0.0028375 difference).
Looks almost like it's on the same place.
Originally I was going to show this in my showcase thread and ask if I can BFE the supervolts now because it's getting a bit annoying to stack them.
I'd much rather spend that time building new designs and other stuff, and if I've done that postiton once, I should be able to replicate that in theory, right?
The position differences(if I'd BFE them, I'd add the difference as well) are so close that it would most likely make no difference to a perfectly stacked one unless someone starts adding a super zoom which allows us to do the placement even more precise.

As for Stacking itself, like Silverfish mentioned, it's completely random.
Originally I thought that stacking would work if you positioned a component right inside another(collision detection would probably fail then, most likely because it's coded to check if anything is in the way 0.0(..)1 from the component) however it was quickly shown that this isn't the case.

The fact that I got the second stack by rotating the battery enough as well as originally finding a stack for the second one, but after 5 or 6 times it wouldn't be found again, makes me believe that you somehow glitch the collision detection which tells the game that you are allowed to put something there/collision works at that point.

RA2 seems to use a very high value for positioning, which is a waste, don't think you would be able to position stuff that precisely unless you glitch with the camera angles, a smaller grid or heck, even a bigger one, would've saved a lot of space, made positioning easier and maybe reduce the online lag, but I don't think I'm the first one questioning what funny stuff the developers were using during development. Most likely has to do with the game being rushed for release.

The problem for me has been getting that flash(think the big issue here is hitting that one spot, think most camera angles will have one), once I see it I can usually find it in little time, however the horizontal positioning seems to finally help with that, so hopefully that allows easier stacks now.

No BFE, Hax, AAM etc etc
No HS/popups/SNS unless part of a hybrid

did u watch my stacking video
Yes, the question isn't about how stacking works but what methods people use(as I can sometimes get a stack done but it feels more like luck than knowing what to do, and spending hours on getting a stack can be annoying), for some reason when I opened the video I usually got the stack done, can swear that positioning the battery a bit more to the top and left usually got the stack working for me.

Remember there are cannons and magnets in cheatbot2 so hovercrafts can be defeated from a bot on the ground.

but to be honest I'd say have every cheatbot2 component except for hovercraft because I think that could be a whole different tournament for hovercrafts :P
Do Magnets actually work? They never did for me and the Cannon wouldn't do damage after a few shots for some odd reasons.

ever heard of a thing called servo motors they help aiming a lot.
Are you talking about the Cannon or Magnets here? Both have been on servos and like I said the cannon damage wouldn't register after a few shots, magnets would never actually pull or push something even against a LW.

Wouldn't it be better if they were mandatory? Like, people have to use those weapons? Because I totally see someone choosing not to use the Cheatbot components and then going in with your average "imma break the game" popup or HS.

Regardless, I'd be interested in a tournament using Cheatbot2 components.
good luck hitting a hovercraft with a popup, there is no rake in cheatbot2

BFE

Nah, I just wiggle about until it works tbh. Just zoom in and keep trying different things. Obviously you need to axle load sometimes etc...
How long does it usually take you? I've been trying stacks for 15 minutes and it feels like I'm doing something wrong(yet sometimes I can get the stack in no time)

This is a 'bot I created after the reddit expoded into a cloud of angry bees after a certain fight. Anyways, meet the anger-inducing Saltbug!
(Image removed from quote.)
I see what you did there, also loving that design. A YT thumbnail always made the LW version of Tentomushi look Robotic and this is what I expected to see there. I think you should make the front of the U shape made out of extenders with plates or put armor plates on there or something that isn't directly the chassis and export the skin texture so you could give it a better look.

This thread isn't about asking how Stacking works but how you do it. Are you using a certain camera angle/trying to move the battery in a certain spot/movepixel/switch camera if it doesn't work for 5 seconds/and so on.

I'd like to know how people do it and which stacks are possible/in what order, to keep those in mind when building something. I do know how to stack, however stacking two Supervolts(even with zoomed in camera, enough space and movepixel) has been giving me a lot of trouble.

Update: Just installed the replacement board, we good.
Sweet, good to see that the changed settings weren't causing any issue(that's exactly the reason why Windows gives you 10 seconds to decide if you want to keep the resolution or not)

Oh man that is so cool looking. Are the wedges any good? When I tried making a popup off a snapper the wedges were beyond terrible (couldn't get under a box chassis) and it was super havoky.

Also, why DDTs for wedges? I thought Snapper2s made the best wedges?
From what I've read DDTs give the best wedges, then Snapper2's and after that SnapperII's, but the distance plays a big part in that.

Didn't know that this was 10 years already, ah the times when people didn't know about BFE.

I thought Oversized BFE Bot was a Tank but HOLY, I had no idea that Hammer of Judgement(who is using huge armor plates?!) was that big.
Wasn't the HD texture only done via importing a bigger one?
Think it's possible to build a too small robot by default but that one is even smaller.
How does the Battleship work ? I guess custom components?
Also the more controllers would be interesting to have, but how did you display them like that?(or does the game automatically do that once there are too many available?)
Insanity Arena reminds me of a super smash bros fangame stage, guess you launch them up and then change arena? would still be interesting to have.

I've heard about Meltybrain spinners before but never seen them, guess it uses a advanced AI that gives the right inputs at the right time?

How did you do the rapid fire cannon? Thought there's a component speed limit which is set by the component itself(also the cannon gets stuck a lot and I never got the magnet to work properly, so the only good cheatbot components are the flamethrowers?(and hovercrafts for popup immunity)) Armored Emergency was also nice.

You're gonna need protection for the LW's arms.  Without it, they're gonna break off faster than an insects legs.
That's why it was supposed to be directly on the ground to go under all those spinners.

The MW(?) isn't too bad.  Not sure if invertibility is that necessary as it can enter spikeball mode and annoy/attack the opponent that way.
I prefer to be able to control the bot instead of having it bounce around. Also guess I could downgrade it into a MW but it's currently overweight and a unfinished HW.

Thanks for the feedback.

Also noone is probably going to believe this, but right before I watched the Battlebots episode today I was thinking of my bot Your Best Dream and if having the legs with servo motors would allow it to self right/add a kind of spring effect, keeping it more stable. After seeing Nightmare vs Icewave I was wondering if Nightmare was able to do exactly that. Turns out it can.

Viewer base seems to be shrinking rapidly this season. Not looking too good for season 3.
I blame the Olympics.  That might be one of the reasons I've heard from Battlebots Update anyway.
See the reply I did for Jonzu's post, the second series got a new rule(I'm surprised that you guys don't know about it yet), if you push a bot around with a wedge without using your weapon you actually lose aggression points, Sawblaze vs Razorback was the first example of this and think Stinger vs Mega Tento is having a bit of that as well.

got to see the episode.
wow.
that was really good

Some stuff:
Forgot to mention this in the last post but doesn't this look familiar:

Mega Gator looks almost like it even if I didn't base it on that(I might have seen that one but that was months ago and by the time I built Mega I probably didn't remember it), so I might be on the right road?

Tried out a few bots in the last few days, sadly they're mostly fail(didn't work out and will be rebuilt hopefully) but thought I'd post about them anyways:

Starting from left to right:

A LW(which originally had RAD drive and a Nifty) thwacker.
I'm not sure if telling your game plans and all is a good idea but I doubt this will change much, the original idea was to go for those vunerable wheels, once they are gone it doesn't matter if the enemy has a spinner or is a popup, they can't move and do anything against you. Was either going to build a side hammer(probably too heavy) or thwacker. Sadly it doesn't seem to perform too well and the arms aren't low enough to the ground to not be hit(didn't bother exporting it to Starcore to see how it does there). And yes I know that one of the razors is attached to the square instead of normal extender.

Second bot was inspired by Squirrelmonkey's Screwdriver bot from the Forge, this would allow to create a popup nightmare, no chassis that's nowhere near the ground and unlike that one Starcore AI robot the chassis would be protected inside the two disks. Well, if you look at the final product you see that the angled design means having a chassis close to the ground and the chassis is too large/discs too small to cover it right. Because Rule of 7 the support beams couldn't be longer. This together with the little wobble that the servo causes made this thing unstable. Second version kinda fixes that, however since the beams dont' go out to the side I expect them to be easily ripped off, the larger wheelbase also meant that the bot couldn't recover well from landing on it's side.

I hope to redo both bots in the future, sadly holiday days seem to pass so fast but I still hope to get more bots done and show that I can build good stuff(so far I feel like posting any "normal" stock bots would only reset that progress). Also tried to stack the supervolt battery with movepixel for quite some time and just couldn't do it(instead I discovered a useless servo stack since the position of the first one was odd). I'm not that much of a fan of stacking because it can be really annoying to do. Doing it via CF is tempting but I wouldn't want to have bots that aren't allowed to enter tournaments or cheated in other ways. BBEANS components are another thing(I really wonder why noone made those things part of a competitive stock version) however I would much rather actually earn those than using them in cheap ways.

Will add some bots to the main post next and hopefully post a few old ones/recreations.

By exploiting functions of the plus-class for fun and profit and code a custom Python AI.
Bind a button for secondary weapon. Use plus.GetHealth(BotID,0) to find HP and insert custom tactic to switch to when Enemy HP is 0 or all primary weapons are lost.
Use plus.getHeading(botID, useOffset) to get the Heading of the enemies, compare with your own to find their heading in comparison with yours.
Don't think there is a nice way to find time left, but maybe plus.getTimeElapsed could be used to change tactics based on time. A better way would be to maybe compare enemy points with your own and cower when in lead.
Use plus.AI.GetMotorAngle(MotorComponentID) to find the current servomotor angle. The first page in this thread explains usage.

There are a lot of good stuff buried in this thread, but it is worth reading through if you want to create custom AIs.
Thanks a lot, I'll try to mess around with those before I ask for more help. Is there a document or a page somewhere? It would make it much easier(which is the reason why I'm adding all my bots to the main post in the showcase) than browsing the entire thread in hopes of finding something.

Enough time to actually build something with effort, was thinking about quickly doing a entry so there's at least more than two to decide on.
