Existing Games / Re: All Things MechWarrior« on: January 02, 2012, 02:43:32 PM »
The reason why I have not played RA2 for the past month is that I am back into playing Missionforce Cyberstorm. (which is similar to Mechwarrior) :P
... and Forza Motorsport 4 just came in via Gamefly... Anyways, MW2 is awesome. The soundtrack is, by far, my favorite game soundtrack ever. I will forever love the game for that alone. 483

I am disappointed that Sage didn't jump at the opportunity to do this BOTM. I figured that he would haxmode something glorious for us all to see.

I am afraid the "common sense" argument is invalid.
1: A good portion of GTM members do not have any common sense. 2: New members are not going to know any better unless they are guided or educated. The "common sense" in relation to IRL bot building will be completely foreign to them. 489

I bet that is fun to drive and you should wire the weapon to play a sound file that screams "wheeeeeee!" You have a great creative mind Mike. 495

Rules suck with this game because the community is too damn savvy and smart.
![]() But really, if you set defined rules... then some people will still exploit them to the max in the name of winning. (as usual) The voting system is really the only way that could push people in the right direction for IRL building. Example: Host starts an IRL tourney and offers to accept a max of 24 bots. A nice high quality splash is posted with all bots showing outside and insides. Actual Builders are kept secret. Community (or just people that entered the tourney) vote for the 16 bots that are the most IRL suitable. New splash is produced with the 16 competitors and their builders listed with them. Tourney starts. I'm pretty sure that the voting system would result in a lot of defensive Bawwwwwing, but it sure would weed out a lot of the bots that exploit the spirit of the IRL style. 496
Stock Showcases / Re: A Fractured Stock Showcase« on: December 03, 2011, 12:45:54 PM »Agh but what about these guys Hmmm... interesting point. Especially since there is obvious success against R4 there. Now my head hurts. Out of curiosity what is the collison mesh like on your problem-bot? It looks like the ramplates are angled downward enough to possibly effect the wedge in comparison to your other bots. 497
Stock Showcases / Re: A Fractured Stock Showcase« on: December 03, 2011, 12:40:54 PM »
I didn't state it was fact. It is mostly my observation. There are so many variables to take into account. But, I think that wheel traction and balance plays a huge role in wedge efficiency. Accurate testing, of course, would be awesome. :D 498
Stock Showcases / Re: A Fractured Stock Showcase« on: December 03, 2011, 12:04:12 PM »
I run into that problem with wedges as well when I design bots. In real-world physics you would think that weight distribution like that would positively effect the wedge capabilities of the bot. But, alas, in RA2 physics this does not seem to be the case. I keep falling for it over and over without thinking things through. It seems that traction trumps weight distribution when it comes to wedges, mainly because of the way that wheels react to the driving surface. By my observations, it seems that four wheels spread out has a more positive effect on a wedge then 2 wheels lined-up, or even four wheels lined-up.
![]() Because RA2 physics are unfortunately grossly inaccurate in comparison to Real world physics... You have to think of the bottom of your bot as a suction cup. The traction rating for the wheels determines the amount of pull toward the floor and where you place them determines how much balanced pull to the floor you have. I think this is, ultimately, why 4 wheel drive bots with shinies (in stock, hypnos in DSL) is incredibly common and also seems to have a good success rate with their wedge. 499
DSL TC Showcases / Re: Naryar's DSL Evil Overlord's Showcase - IRL SHALL BE SLAIN BY MY HANDS« on: December 03, 2011, 10:21:01 AM »
Since you got weight to spare, how about a row on Beater bars along the front lip of the bot to protect the chassis some? if you line it up just right it shouldn't detract from the overall coolness of the bot. Or perhaps a perfectly aligned storm2 skirt?

Gotta say I really like that LW as well.
They are all really good. With all this effort going into full teams, an AI pack might be worth considering in the future. Excellent work! |
