I was also debating about locking or deleting this thread but there was nothing wrong with it besides the fact that it is highly controversial and many people got carried away. Expect punishments to be dealt out in the coming days. Anyone who decides to take part in another flame war here in this thread (even if you started it) will receive a minimum ban of 1 month.

You could save 0.4 kg on your first bot by using a chassis with 6 points on the baseplate instead of 8. It wouldn't make it any more original, though.

Concentrate on your Summer DSL Tournament before committing to this. You were already saying how much work you've got to do with the other one.
Both of these are very good points. I wasn't going to say anything because everything had already been said but don't assume that you will be allowed to proceed anyways. You may not start a new tournament when another one is still in progress and any form of entry requesting is prohibited in the Display Tournaments section.

G.K. and NFX have been reinstated as the presiding moderators for the Tournaments section. They are both aware of their duties as moderators and will be taking over immediately.

Please send them (and not me) your questions/comments/problems/whatever. All the awesome feedback that I got while maintaining the section has already been PMed to them (that just means you should come up with some new feedback).

I, and the rest of the staff, have our own duties to attend to so please contact G.K. or NFX for anything related to the tournaments section. If they are unable to help you then they will undoubtedly point you in the right direction.

There are certainly some days that I've considering doing this. Personally, I don't think it helps the rest of the forum but it is one of the more popular sections at GTM.

I just did a search for the f-word and it was everywhere.
I used to search regularly, but stopped when I retired.
I get emails regularly from people reporting posts, but never do anything as I am retired.
That's actually pretty resourceful of you. I did a quick little automated clean up but I'll probably do it your way in the future. Kossokei is right that I'm not into doing tedious things unless I see it but I'll try to do my part. I've been doing too much in the background and not enough in the foreground for everyone else to see (lead by example).

That is not to say that members should depend on the staff to do everything. You as members have quite a bit of control of how things are run around here. You should be trying to limit your use of foul language and negative behaviors. You can also hit the report button when you see something that you consider questionable. PMs to staff members are fine too but please limit yourself to only doing it when it is a private matter.

The rest of the staff is also responsible for doing their part in making GTM a better place for everyone. It is important that they lead by example and manage what they can. The fact that we don't have very many active staff members is definitely a problem but I'm not going to promote anyone unless I see them stepping up and staying out of trouble. This is yet another reason why people should restrain themselves and try to help make GTM more fun for everyone else (by not overloading the staff with dumb things like foul language edits/punishments).[/quote]

I agree with CC, This place has gotten way more bullies ever since ACAMS left.
There also wasn't uncensored swearing when ACAMS was here. (at least outside the playground)
Really? I was thinking that it is about even. I also wouldn't say that my taking over was the turning point but I'm obviously biased and possibly delusional.

Please hit the "Report to moderator" button when you see questionable posts. You are not penalized for any misjudgments and it only takes a few seconds. ATM, there are zero reports being made and the staff is working unnecessarily hard to compensate for it.

You have a week to put some bots on the exchange for me. I won't take bots sent in PMs due to the the tournament hosting rules.

How is doing this and taking requests any different than people sending you their bots via PM?

Regardless, this tournament goes against the rules of this section.
This section is for tournaments that you run, supply all bots and need NO SUPPORT from members.

We will call these Display Tournaments

You can ask for NO HELP, BOTS, or MONEY from the members!
I'm really sorry but I can't let this progress any further. Any rebuttals may be sent to me via PM but rules are rules and its not like they have changed.

Is it a not responding message that you are getting? RA2 tends to do that in windows 7 and 8 when there are a lot of files being loaded (hence why DSL users tend to see it more often). This message goes away and lets you play if you continue to wait.

If you are getting a Runtime Error than it is something more serious. This is usually caused by having a syntax error in one of the PY files but it could also mean a number of other things. Usually, reinstalling the whole game fixes these issues (make backups first and don't install any mods or unpack it on top of an already modded game). It that doesn't work, it is possible that you have a corrupt file somewhere so you'll need to redownload things.

If none of the above advice helps then could you please tell us the following:
1. Does it crash every time you start the game?
2. Does stock RA2 work for you?
3. Do you have any mods installed besides DSL? (patches, AI, Arenas, etc.)

Alright, I took care of it. You should receive an email with instructions for how to reset your password.

For future reference, you can do this sort of thing yourself by going to the Login tab, clicking on "Forgot your password?", and entering the email address or username that is associated with your account. It is no big deal for me to do it but it probably would have saved you some time.

Let me know if you have any more problems.

The variable "sounds" is not defined in that scope (RA2 doesn't know that you assigned a dictionary named "sounds" because you only have it looking locally and the actual variable is defined locally in another method). Without any sort of testing, I'm thinking that this would work for you:

There is no set criteria for Veteran or Advanced User.
I'm certainly not aware of any criteria and I'm one of the few people capable of setting titles. ACAMS may have had some criteria but I'm not sure what they were.

Right now, here is how I look at it:
  • Advanced User - someone who has been here for awhile and has contributed heavily in some area.
  • Tech Advisor - someone who has been here for awhile and has contributed heavily in terms of technical advice to other members.
  • Veteran - someone who could have been considered for one of the previously mentioned titles but isn't necessarily as active as they were before.
The amounts of time that it takes to get any one title is determined on a case-by-case basis. However, I'll admit that all three of these groups need to be updated. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

If you feel that you deserve one of these titles, I would prefer that you didn't send me a PM asking about it. However, if you feel that someone else deserves one of these titles, feel free to PM your request. Please don't send PMs to other members asking for them to PM me. I'll take a look at all the active members when I have time to ensure that nobody got missed.

Edit: Just to clarify things, the hierarchical order for the three groups is as follows: Advanced User < Veteran < Tech Advisor
