How should we send you the splash? Should we put it in a zip file alongside the bot file and use the uploader?

You forgot the most important part, that is, you can't tell who's who just by looking. Part of homophobia comes from the paranoia that every guy, even your closest friends, has been one of them the whole time. 4723

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas« on: September 13, 2008, 09:42:21 PM »
Component skinning is easy, just go to the directory, and open the components folder. Open the folder of the compnent you wish to skin, and open the folder marked "maps." You'll see a bmp file that looks a lot like a robot's custom texture, and you can modify it in any picture editing program.
Also, more replicas: ![]() Toecutter, a robot with a strange weapon, it's a blade that swipes across. It also has some nice rollbars for staying on its feet. I've found that it's actally a pretty good robot in hte game; the blade is mounted at just the right angle to rip off wheels from other opponents ![]() Triterobot, a bizarre triangular robot with a spike at each of its corners. It's invertible, which is good, but it can't quite figure out whether it's a rammer or a sit-and-spin. 4726

It's got a lifting arm for weaponry. Just a joke entry for the most part, but arguably the best showmen in Robot Wars. ![]() Aggrobot 1, the first of the three Aggrobots. This one has some spikes, a tongue wedge, and a rear pneumatic piercer. Very large in size, kind of feeble in terms of weaponry, but I like the deisgn and I think it looks pretty cool. I couldn't get a decent still shot of this one, so here's a video of it in its fight against Razer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZArWAvx6oBw 4728
Game Development / Ideas for new Robot Combat Game« on: August 31, 2008, 03:51:44 PM »
I have to agree with people who think that guns and missiles are impractical, where's the fun in killing your opponent in one hit without them touching you? Anyways, here are some things I'd like to see in the next robot combat game:
-A points system that factors in more than just raw damage. -Hydraulic crusher and lifter weapons that actually work. -More freedom to design a chassis, I feel the current system is too restrictive. -A burst motor that can do more than 180 degrees, and can be programmed to go either way 4729

General Support / Double Strength Aluminum?« on: August 29, 2008, 04:09:03 PM »
So I tried equipping my bot with double strength aluminum by not going to the amour screen. However, the armor I ended up with appears to crumple just as easily as regular aluminum. What did I do wrong?
I have the 1.3 patch installed, I don't know if that affects anything 4731

Existing Games / What games would you call "legendary"« on: August 27, 2008, 10:07:11 PM »
Besides RA2, the only games that really met my expectations were the Paper Mario series. Great storyline, not antagonizingly difficult, hours of play, tons of humor, tons of eater eggs, everything I look for in a good game.

Existing Games / What about this bot game ?« on: August 27, 2008, 09:48:14 PM »
I am a fan of Robot Wars as you probably guessed from my replica building. Allow me to shed some light on the finer points. Here's my take on the game.
It's meant to appeal to fans of Robot Wars, who have always dreamed about taking to the controls of Robot Wars greats like Razer, Panic Attack, Pussycat, and lots of others. The focus was clearly on cashing in on Robot Wars, not making an acres-of-freedom bot building game. The main way to succeed is to build a semi-decent bot, earn enough credits to buy a semi-decent Robot Wars bot, then earn enough credits to buy an A-list Robot Wars bot. As for gameplay, nothing to write home about. Many robots skid across the arena like ice capades, to the point where I deemed certain ones completely unplayable. Robots with powerful flippers are a bitch too; they randomly send themselves flying instead of their opponents. Another complaint I had was with the house robots. As mentioned earlier, they guard a certain part of the arena and attack all who dare stray in. My problem is that they're so disorganized; just graze a corner of the patrol zone, and it'll be a house robot blood orgy for you. The Refbot tries his best to keep things under control, but ultimately the house robots flip him the bird whenever they get a red or yellow card. There were a couple of issues from the last Robot Wars game that I expected them to fix, and was disappointed when they didn't. First is the issue with invertible bots. Now, the point of an invertible bot is that it can keep on rollin' if it gets flipped over. It can do that in this game, but the ref doesn't seem to care; even if you're moving, you're counted out just for being upside down. The other issue was judges' decisions. In Robot Wars, the criteria are style, control, damage, and aggression. Damage is clearly defined, but there's no explanation as to how you rack up points in the other three areas, meaning that you can strip down your opponent to a bare chassis but still lose on judges' decision if they didn't feel you were stylish enough. In short, don't buy this game unless you're a fan of the Robot Wars franchise. Most of the satisfaction comes from lighting Diotoir on fire, and helping Razer to settle his long-standing score against Pussycat. 4734
Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas« on: August 25, 2008, 10:45:17 PM »![]() Shredder, a robot that looks like a reel-to-reel tape deck. Its two discs are potent weapons. ![]() Shadow of Napalm, a wedge shaped bot with a creepy face and a bright orange hue. Its weapon is a lifting arm tipped with a blade. The best way I could find to re-create it gave it a sort of bucktoothed appearance, but I still think this was one of my better ones. 4735

The final 2 in my series of 2nd World Championship bots:
![]() Diotoir, one of the more famous ones. It's a heart-shaped robot with a lifting arm covered all over in red fur. If anyone's bored and good at making components, could you possibly do a fur component tht burns when exposed to fire? It would make this robot a lot more accurate. ![]() Yeborobo, a bot with an axe from South Africa. I hates how such a simple shape was impossible in the game, what I settled for was a version with the lower panel sheared off. It can self-right. 4736

Ok, my friend told me this one, so thank Resetti's Friend if you like this one.
A guy is looking to buy a car, so he goes into a dealerhip. The salesman asks, "would you be interested on a car with a special CD player? All you do is shout out any genre of music, and it plays a song." The man is intrigued, so agrees to take it for a test drive. As they're driving along, the salesman says "country," and the CD player begins playing country music. Then he calls out "Reggae" and it switches over to reggae. The man decides he wants to try it out himself, so ha calls out "Early 1960's chart toppers" Amazingly, it recognizes that too. As they're driving along, they see an old man furiously waving his cane around at some children on his lawn. He screams out "F#$king kids!" And then the CD player begins to play, "'cause it's a thriller! Thriller night! And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike." 4739

Some more World Championship 2 replicas:
Flensburger Power, a German robot with a lance and two saws. It's a pretty reliable design, even if it's not the most interesting ![]() The Revolutionist, an American robot with a spinning body weapon, and some patriotic flags. I'm sorry about the body being so shadowy, but it was like this from almost every angle, and wasn't any better outsides the bot lab. Still, it's insanely destructive, just like the original. ![]() 4740

But how do you get the logos on if you can't find a picture of it in the exact right angle? I draw all my skins by hand, with a few exceptions, of course. Quote from: Somebody;10571 Then you probably will not see any replicas with skins from me, because I am the worst drawer in the world. Practice makes perfect. I have been playing this game for over 2 years now, and my early designs were terrible in both design and skin. Most of what you see is my recent work, but there's a stash of my early designs that I did before I had much experience. If you want to get better at skinning, I suggest you start by building and skinning your own replica of Panic Attack. It's a good, challenging design and one of the first custom skins I did. |
