I get the feeling that a lot of people here don't like threads like this.

all i know its green reptile paintjob flipper bot from early series of robot wars

I think you're referring to one called Robogeddon.

That was Hypnodisc's first battle on Robot wars, and before the match, I was joking to my sibs and teasing Hypnodisc like "Ohhhh, what's he gonna do, hypnotise them?"  Boy, did I eat those words.

By the way, here is the video of the fight in question:

Here's my list:

-People who turn up their headphones so loud that everyone within 10 feet can  hear them
--When those same douchebags can't even be bothered to stick the ****ing thing in thier ears, and have them pointed outwards like some stereo system.
----When they sing along to their song.  I've got news for you buddy, NO ONE has sounds good without a musical backing.

-Cellhpones.  All ringtones are annoying, and people talk too loudly.  I wish that shoe phones existed, and were the only mobile phones on the market, so that if anyone wanted to annoy me by having a loud conversation in public, they'd have to bend down and untie their shoe and remove the sole.

-The octuplets lady.

-Fox put all the shows on hiatus last week to make room for American Idol

-Bernie Madoff

-WMG muted a couple oif my replica videos

-Why isn't there another sequel to Thief?

I assume that the "no screamers" rule is in effect, if not, then I propose we make one for this thread.  Anyways, here's one.  Is the dancer spinning clockwise or counterclockwise?  Do this one in internet explorer if you can, it's an animated gif, and I think it spins too fast in Firefox.

Time and time again I've seen nightmare with either

A. A broken weapon motor belt
B. Broken off wheels
C. Etc.

Nightmare is a big hitter, i will give you that. But as soon as a decent weapon hits one of the above things its toast.

That's why it's not as easy as it seems to win with a spinner.  It's super-effective against most types of weapons, but when you fight a robot with a better spinner, you know you're going to lose.  Very, very badly.

Model building, making replicas on RA2 (and videos of said replicas), reading Stephen King novels, Animal Crossing, and anything related to Robot Wars.

I remeber seeing an anti-drug PSA in a magazine with this kid weaving a basket underwater with an intimidating professor looking on and "Underwater Basket Weaving 101" written on the blackboard.  The text at the bottom said "Drugs are an elective too."

"Underwater Basket Weaver" sounds like one of the puzzles from that Nickelodeon show Figure it Out.

Just who does that hammer operator think he is?  Blowing kisses to the crowd while repeatedly kicking a dead robot!  What a pompous, bladheaded asshole!  I hope they made him spend the next match inside the Battlebox, that'd teach the little ****er some respect!  If I were the loser I'd go over there and strangle him myself.  I mean, my robot's destoryed and I'm out of the competition, what have I got to lose?

Here's one that's kinda dark, but made me laugh anyways.  It's more mild than the others, there's no racism, 9/11 jokes or blood and gore.

Off-Topic Discussion / Blake 7 VS red dwarf whats better?

These shows only aired in Britain btw.

Actually, Red Dwarf aired on PBS (A commercial-free channel in America) about 7 years ago.  I guess they were trying to lure in some anglophiles because they did Robot Wars too.  It's thanks to PBS that I got into both those shows.  So yeah, Red Dwarf.

I only know about Blake's 7 because there was a robot on Robot Wars called ORAC's Revenge.

General Support / How to AI a Srimech?
« on: December 20, 2008, 12:12:35 PM »
So, I'm trying to AI a bot that's a spinner with a srimech.  I've wired the srimech as instructed in Starcore's guide, but it won't self-right.  Is there a command in the bindings I need to add?

Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas
« on: December 19, 2008, 08:29:43 PM »
At last!  Done with the semester's finals!  I've been spending most of my time studying, but now I'm back with replicas:

Bash Gordon, a yellow robot with an axe.  The original was a hybrid axe/flipper design; it could flip robots at the back and axe bots at the front.  I can't replicate that design due to the limiting range of burst motors, but at least it's a decent axe.  Here's of it; that was the only footage I could find, and I couldn't snap a decent still frame.

Orac's Revenge, another axe robot.  It's got a cool hexagon pattern covering most of the chassis.  It also has some spikes in front.  I was frustrated with the fact that I couldn't get the chassis to bend into quite the right shape, so I devoted all my effort to the artwork on this one.

Oh, and I also have a new video.

Modifications / Burst motor with an extended arc?

Im still trying to find that out myself!
Some say that its all to do with editing the components .txt file.
Ask Mad, he'll know what to do!
(P.s. Love your replicas!)

Glad you like them!

I'm looking at a text file of one of the burst motors, and there aren't that many lines, so finding the right on shouldn't be too hard.  Here are a few select lines of text, do any of them seem like they might be key?

type = mechanics
elecMaxInOutRate = -700
burst = 20 60 120
power = 4 60
sort = 14
master = motor

The rest are lines that I'm fairly sure have nothing to do with the swing arc (sounds, HP, name, etc)

Discussion / How do i stop this?
« on: December 12, 2008, 01:53:36 PM »
I've found that I can trigger that effect on/off by pressing F12.  I've never had it do that glitch on its own, but maybe F12 will turn it off for you. If the current consensus is you're already screwed, then it's worth a shot.

Modifications / Burst motor with an extended arc?
« on: December 12, 2008, 01:49:36 PM »
Are there any burst motors that have an arc of more than 90 degrees?  I looked at the one on DSL that claims to, but it turns out just to be a spin motor.
