HW for the team

Basically a HW Orange Wave.  The spikes give it a second form of offense when it flips over and before it self-rights (which those skirts on the top are needed in order to do).  It's notably lacking in weapon weight for a HW, just having a bare DSL bar for a weapon.  It may get outweaponed by most other spinners, but it doesn't do any less damage before that happens and it's plenty dangerous against any bot light in the weapon weight department.  The only flaw is the weak chassis armor; usually the chassis is safely out of reach, but if it happens to get hit before Supercell can self-right, it's going to hurt.

Oh and it's kind of hard to see but it has a titanium sheet on the bottom to protect the drive motors.

I would attach the RAD's on the other end to get the tribars as far apart as possible.  This makes it easier to trap bots, particularly HS, and get the razors into their weak spots.

Great build anyway, even if it is sort of a clone.  Naryar should be happy you didn't use 2 Nifties. :P

Tried some different armor setups.

Neither of these is as strong as the mace setup, and it doesn't make bots slide up noticeably easier.  In theory they should slide up easier, but I think the drum is doing most of the lifting work in either case.

The front probably needs to be more wedged and less steep to get the effect you guys are going for, which will probably require a redesign with the drum positioned more toward the middle of the bot.  Looks like I know what I'll be trying for Drumblebee 9 eventually.

Most Original: Uber Kill
Coolest:  Agrophobia
Favorite Match:  Reier vs. Squirrel_Monkey  (one of the only really close matches)
Most Fearsome Brotherhood:  NFX  (sounds weird since he went 0-2, but he was who I was most scared of at the start of the tournament.)
Unluckiest Brotherhood:  RPJK  (should have beaten me except Elan's weird driving saved me)

So do the same 16 people enter all the weight classes, or are there new signups every season?

Maybe a dumb question, but your intro spiel sort of made it sound like you're looking for the top overall builder in all of RA2.

I forgot about this.

Now that I've been reminded, yes, I am still interested in how it turns out.

Barbed Obsidian... was that R0B0's piston popup?  Can't remember exactly which bot it is but I think I know what you mean.  To be honest, I'm not completely happy with the current armor setup.  But I tried a different one, and it A) didn't protect the motors as well, B) made the wedges worse for some reason, and C) didn't look as cool.  I left the armor the way it is for fear of upsetting the delicate balance that makes Drumblebee 8 not a fail.

BUT you just made me think of using iron spikes instead of maces and angling them down to make a sort of steep wedge.  I must try this.

Lol, that is the weirdest chassis shape I have ever seen used on a serious bot.

Imagine if ACAMS did another standard-chassis bot-building contest and gave everyone that chassis.  :gawe:

I really don't think you need a new one; that shape gives the bot originality and flavor.

And finally, after trying and failing 3 times to make a Drumblebee that is better than Drumblebee 5, which is surprisingly difficult considering how old Drumblebee 5 is...

I DID IT.  It's still not a really good bot, but it's at least better than Drumblebee 5 most of the time.  I'll take what I can get.

I say "usually" and "sometimes" and "most of the time" about how good Drumblebee 8 is because it's bouncy and unreliable.  Not super bouncy like Drumblebee 7, but enough to mess up the wedge at critical moments.  This can be remedied by keeping the weapon off until you're under the opponent, but then it often gets flipped so the opponent gets under even though Drumblebee actually got under first.  You need to time the weapon activation just right to maximize the chance of staying under the opponent, either that or fight in an arena that prevents box-rushing.  Drumblebee 8 does not like being box-rushed.

You'd think 96 kg of motor protection would be adequate, but it still loses its weapon motors before it loses its razors, meaning it can't beat any good HS except with perfect driving.  But VS not being able to beat HS is nothing new.  It's enough to beat HS hybrids like 2 Sinister and Tempest Exterminator.

Just 1 Supervolt because I'm not using a burst motor for the (mostly cosmetic) stinger anymore.  And DSA of course.

Actually- I wonder if Sonny could provide the "Three, Two, One, Activate" sound he uses for his videos to replace the intro buzzer? That'd be fantastic.

Doesn't work.  The intro sounds are the same .wav repeated multiple times, not one long .wav.  It would repeat the whole "Three, Two, One" three times.

Just one of those thoughts... Do you want me to record real motor/pnuematics sounds? The in game pneumatics sound nothing like the do in real life.

I like this idea. Between the two of us, we've got a pretty good range of motors. You could probably also take a recording of Phoenix's flipper.

Motors/rigs I've got
Short Magmotor
18v dewalt
18v dewalt flipper(maybe burst-ish)
Spark (ant) motors
Servo

Could also probably record the drill press/table saw/mill etc.. for some other noise options.

Sweet.  It would be awesome if we could have a different sound for every motor.

Whoa.  I thought maybe you cloned them, but then I thought, "Nah, they look too accurate, no way that's a clone."

Edit:  Oho, now that I know what to look for I can see that the front ice picks on Deathwatch are angled 1 click off.  :trollface

Where did you get Deathwatch and Deathwatch Queen?  I don't recall ever putting those on the bot exchange, especially not the unskinned versions.

Cool shots though.  Take that, Hot Wheels!

Back before I joined the official forums, I had a standard test to determine if a bot was good or not.

It was this:  If a bot can beat Tornado at least 1 out of 3 fights or so, it's a pretty good fighter.

I'd go to FB and say, "I made a really cool bot, you have to come see it!  It can even sometimes beat Tornado!"  :laughing

Oddly, EMERGENCY was always more of an annoyance than a serious threat.  I'd get tossed around of course but usually ended up winning.

That would be awesome

I used my old antweight Defy Ant to record the new motor sounds for DSL2 so I know it can be done.  It takes a lot of tweaking to get right though... the game distorts a lot of the sounds.

Weird.  It faced the right direction in my previous matches.  And I just tested it and it faces the right way in both the Combat Arena and the Containment Cube on my computer.

Random fluke?  I'd ask you to test and see if it happens again on your computer but, meh, it doesn't really matter at this point.
