NEW BOT FUCCBOIS
What was the name again? Also doesn't the skirt cause balance issues/not work well since the more away it is from the hinge the weaker it gets?

Drive designed to break off? So it needs to be inside the chassis? Because one of your example bots isn't following that. No idea what you're trying to do with fighting two beetleweights or surviving against a heavyweight and I find the life system way too complicated for something like this, why not simply make it based on points?
1. Cheap Norris style bot where the drive is supposed to just get knocked off and it basically becomes a crawler. 2. Robots get seeded by it to determine which order they are put into to the rumble match. 3. Really don't see how it's too complicated since after each round every robot other than the winner of said round will have lost a life. (Unless they of course earn extras by destroying 3 robots in one round)
True.

Oh, so lower bracket is single elimination? The last fight showed the blurry action cam well. Matches went as expected, with Emergency having the smartzone way too much in the front, OA having no problem to get under the rammer and Orange wobbling around, making the wedges useless.

Really like the concept. It will really show how skillful a builder you are seeing how unique and effective a design you can make from the same base as everyone else.
Sadly I don't DSL, but the Splash should be interesting...
You should join anyways. I don't play DSL as well but seeing how this has a already given chassis as well as being MW, there isn't that much you can do with it and it can't be possibly worse than my entry.

Isn't #2 breaking the rules by not being a heavyweight? Also looks like #3 noticed a bit late that it needed to be a HW.

Loving it, reminds me of a mix of Chaos/Chaos2 except that it's front hinged. Wanting to build something like that right now but I'm not a fan of skinning all stuff.

You're allowed 3 modifications to the chassis. A modification would include:
- Removing a component
- Adding a component]
- Moving (or rotating) a component
3 modifications isn't even enough to add 2WD.
The power of extenders my friend. The entire bot is going to be built off of extenders starting on 3 baseplate anchors.

hate to rain on your parade but entering ring spinners has only been allowed in IRL style tournies as they break the rules of a normal dsl tourney (yeah odd i know) and nobody has made an irl tourney in a while. if you want something that is similar though you can make a SnS with a static ring around the chassic with the wheels axle loaded on and that's dsl tourney legal.
How does that work? Thought that if it's IRL it works in DSL-S rules too?

There should be at least one team that's almost ready with their bots.

Just pm me. Trov is the only one who can see the uploader
Oh, already put it in the uploader(thought about doing that but since Trov was back and the uploader linked in the description). Will send a PM. Edit: for some odd reason, watching the preview of the post removed the subject.

Threads not up yet. Get it built soon!
For some reason the uploader link doesn't want to work right, did take one from the earlier BOTM which worked.

Liking the clone clash but how would one stack those without using the stack glitch? Think it would be better if you added more anchors and removed the change option. Also isn't it possible to add a poll to your own threads?

i approve of the music choices
was that spongebob rapping
it really sounds like that
jesus christ have you guys seriously never heard of parappa the rapper
i've heard OF him but i've never heard him in action
i'm going to stick with the spongebob theory though
That comment chain :P A bit offtopic, but has there ever been a tournament(after "good building styles" were known) that had bots that were like the stock AI?

Deadline is Monday cuz thats when I'll be back from vacation. Feel free to enter until then.
Enough time to actually build something with effort, was thinking about quickly doing a entry so there's at least more than two to decide on.
Or well, enough time if I wouldn't forget about it. Guess deadline is already up now.

Your Best Dream is doing much better than I expected. On a related note, RedAce is getting some bad luck. Thanks for the shoutout, btw
I was quite surprised as well, originally thought that it would go out rather quick given how easily the supports can be damaged and I'm not too much of a fan of spikeball mode/would expect itself to be thrown out of the arena here. Speaking of which, I'm not exactly happy how it shuffles left/right for movement, as it easily allows other bots to attack the side, and how big it is. The bot was built with the normal combat arena without hazards in mind, here is can quickly get into the way of the blade or the flipper.
I did do the shoutout before I sent you the offer for the other bot, so you were going to be on one of the bots anyways :P thought it was needed because without your help this bot wouldn't have been in it.
Not sure what to think of the next fight, while it did defeat a spinner before, my spinner wasn't that great and this one also has the bear claw rack in the way. Think this will be the first time where the supports will be ripped off.
Well, I should've thought R01 used caster armor.
And there's a good chance that I'm gonna face myself... again. wtf.
Caster Armor was a addition to the last version, much like the support protection, this came at the cost of the self righting help and additional weapons. Since the main spinner only works as long as the supports are there I thought I might as well make them a bit stronger. The Caster armor doesn't always catch all hits and I thought that my bot would most likely go out to yours, quickly getting flipped off to it's side because one of the wheels got under the popup. Either that or it getting on top of yours but that would most likely require a instahit else the spinners would get stuck.
Your popup was well built, did you change the AI tactics? Looked like it only fired when the chassis was in reach instead of all the time(which would've totally destroyed my bot). At least you didn't have to fight yourself twice in the group battles. Funny enough in both battles only one Razor was left, I was a bit surprised to see that the spikes and not the extenders were gone, really shows how powerful those bots are.

Mr Speed Squared(odd name by the way) looked like a first time entry spinner would look like
Competing in four series with three versions of Trouble And Strife don't count?
Okay.
Oh I didn't know they were a returning team(this show should really say that, much like the 3rd wars did). I never understood why they didn't use the first version of Trouble And Strife more.

Fights were mostly uninteresting IMO and foxic vs mr speed squared was probably the most boring fight i have seen. The final was ok, hopefully there will be much more interesting fights to come but it seems as if episode 1 was the best. I may watch the first couple of fights in episode 3, but I doubt it will get better. Still, nice to see the teams having fun making the show.
Oh come on, don't tell me you're one of those destruction guys too. The machines this time were working much better, you wouldn't have Terrorhurtz without a working Axe or Carbide without a working spinner While that was a boring fight it wasn't the most boring fight by miles, watch this instead: Also apparently the extra fights we noticed in the intro are on the DVD that they're making.

Alright, Episode's over: Editing was MUCH better this time around, it was similar to how it was for the later half of the battles in Episode 1 which was good. Is Thor built from the same team? Huge shock to see Tough as Nails out in Round 1, looks like they need a stronger drive and better grip now. Thor did do a amazing job, credit to them for knocking them out that way.
Swap my Foxic thoughts with Shockwave. Shockwave looked like it wouldn't be as well engineered and probably slower and less powerful and be knocked out for it's weaker top armor. While the engineering part was true for the drive chain and for the bucket(the pipe bits were strong, the connectors however not) they were a really powerful robot and reminded me a lot of Robot the Bruce from Robot Wars. As a bonus they even lost chains like Rex' machines used to. They did try to fix the bucket later on, while it wasn't much more stable it had a better shape for catching robots, being more ( instead of |.
Mr Speed Squared(odd name by the way) looked like a first time entry spinner would look like, a good thing about RW is that it still allows beginners to get easier into stuff. Not having armor on that underside was critical and after the few starting battles their spinner was too damaged to really continue doing damage like it did in the first fight against Draven(who sadly got knocked out by that).
Gonna call it now, WHEELS! will be a new meme.
Foxic was sadly a bit dissappointing. It was surprisingly small and probably built for the 100kg limit. I didn't know that their team was one of those teams(I didn't know them before at all), having built so many robots before I thought they would actually know what to build, and because of that said no weakness instead to show. Drive and traction problems were very annoying and they were barely able to move in their first battle. Dara did do a comment on them having a fox robot and I think they will be remembered a bit like Season 1 Complete Control. Sad that he called it a flipper and not a lifter what it actually is. Wonder why they couldn't fit on the other lifter and what all that axe talk was about. Sure the axe head wouldn't hit and the metal bar would instead, but not like that would be cut off by Foxic's wedge.
It was getting under Shockwave quite well, you can see them pushing their normal scoop downwards in the hope to get under them. They sure had powerful drive pushing Dead Metal around, but it was also easier since Dead Metal's wheels were off ground. Technically they are the first robot to attack house robots. Once they were upside down it was clear it was over for them, wedge designs like that sadly don't work on the other side.
"That's it, I'm going after the House Robots" didn't like that at all, they could still fix their bot, defeat the other and then go after the house robots. With that said F*** the judges decision on that battle against mr speed squared. Foxic went after the house robots after a bit(guess that gives no points) got some damage from Dead Metal(counts against it) then pushed and lifted up Mr Speed Squared(who the entire time did nothing). "This might be the worst fight I've seen in the whole of Robot Wars", seriously? Unless that was banter I heavily disagree, let me name one, Napalm vs Warhog(think it was Series 4 or 5) with neither bot moving. Want another? Delldog vs Dynamite from the UK vs Germany special. Sure it didn't change anything but just as I was about to say that this is a new fresh uncorrupted or rigged start we get that. Another thing I don't like is how if it goes to a judge's decision the other team doesn't get 1 point, so it's only a total disadvantage for the winning bot.
At least Foxit was able to do a little more against Thor, but it sadly wasn't too much until they got drive problems again. Matilda got a late revenge for Death Metal which was nice.
I wonder what drive Thor had, not only could they easily outpush TAN but also Shockwave. Also really strong hammer. The wedgelets didn't look as strong but they did their job, so did the rather small spinner plate. After seeing how they could control Shockwave I expected them to win this, Shockwave however made them lose and won. I'm a big fan of Shockwave as well, but sadly I can't see both of them having a chance against Carbide unless Thor would instafinish it and Shockwave not using that Bucket.
Sadly they didn't do interviews with the losing teams of the first round. Was I the only one that noticed the intro(which house robot gets into the arena) was missing for the first of the second rounds?
Looks like we are getting technical talk of where robots are used outside of Robot Combat every time now. Also could they stop firing the fires every time? just keep them at full power.

I said it at the end of season 1.. having the fan favourite / super destructive robot loose to a strong boxy defensive robot isnt a good look to the casual audience..
Same situation as robot wars series 6 that resulted in the politics of series 7.
That said though I cant really pick much fault with this series, I think its been awesome..
Lock-Jaw deserved to loose imo, you can just put a block of metal on the front of your robot and rotate in circles blocking everything, if you play the defense game you need to still be able to push opponents around and utilise the hazards
Yes but that's exactly the problem in my view, rigging fights to get views(even if it's needed in this case which makes the situation even more harder) isn't the right thing to do, sadly this show needs all those people who only want to see destruction, and according to some, the producers themselves wanted Tombstone to win. But tell me how you are going to face spinners instead? Just go head on and slam your main weapon into them so it gets destroyed and they win by default? At this point they could stop fights as soon as a primary weapon is lost- oh right that still allows for destruction, as soon as both primary weapons are lost, which just shows how bad this got. Lockjaw blocked every attempt from Brutus to attack which shows good driving, it was a war of attrition but Lockjaw was able to push them, not only that but the hit against the screws probably played a big part in why the spinner stopped in the end. Instead of only hyping the action and destruction they should also show how clever driving, war of attition and slamming other robots into the wall can be fun, and if this show continues doing stuff that way I can see it gone just like the 7th Series very soon.
