General Support / NO DSL WHATSOEVER! *HOORAY! IS SOLVED!*
« on: July 07, 2013, 01:15:28 AM »
Hello and good evening to you.

Here's the story:

Ever since discovering the wonders of DSL on May 19, 2013, I turned my back on Stock. That changed earlier today (July 6, 2013)

I vastly improved all of my main stock bots (Coming soon: rnifnuf's Cavalcade of Stock Crap), so I feel more confident in my stock building skills.

THIS is where the problems start.

After spending some time in C:\Program Files (x86)\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2\Robot Arena 2.exe with Cherry Flavored's Anti-Ballast installed, I decided to spend some time in G:\PC Games\DSL 2.1\Robot Arena 2.exe (My main DSL directory)

It got to the first screen for a second, then stopped completely. It told me that "Windows couldn't find a solution to the problem" after DSL crashed.

This was a Ready-To-Go version of DSL 2.1 downloaded from the RA2 Wiki.

HERE is the kicker:

My backup DSL did the same thing!

I extracted the DSL files from the RAR again and ran DSL directly from there: SAME STINKING OUTCOME  :vista:

Maybe the problem was how I ran DSL in the first place: I put the extracted DSL folder on a flash drive and ran the DSL straight from there.

NOW comes the question, the answer to which may be the solution to my conundrum.

How do I properly install DSL AND be able to run both DSL and stock?

I know I sound like a complete and total n00b, but I would appreciate any help to solve my conundrum so I can be , maybe even  as opposed to :vista:

Washington all the way.

louisiana

Cajuns do speak with a thick French accent.

As for me, MO money, MO problems.
Well, Andrew...

Missouri, the "Show-Me State." As in, show me the quickest way out of this place.

AND

As they say in Missouri, "I ain't goin' back to Missouri." (307200 points to the guy that knows what that is from)

Tom Sawyer?

Yes, Tom Sawyer did say that.

It was in an episode of Fairly Odd Parents (Season 4, episode 9, "Shelf Life"), although it might as well have been said by Honest Abe.
You get 153600 points. Good job.  :claping

Discussion / Re: Arena Ideas - Post 'Em Here!
« on: July 01, 2013, 10:12:06 PM »
Hello and good evening to you.

How about an arena where the bots fight in a giant spinning bowl with a flat bottom and a hole in the center that floats in mid-air. There would also be small beater bars attached to the inside of the bowl to serve as the hazards.  This arena, the Centrifuge, is based on "Centrifugal," a stage from the 2002 GameCube-Exclusive maze game Super Monkey Ball 2.

Another arena is a conveyer belt that leads into an inordinately hungry mouth that eats bots whole. There would be a smartzone inside the mouth that repeatedly raises and lowers a giant steel hazard shaped like an upper row of teeth that crushes bots. The inspiration here is the device from the 1987 film The Brave Little Toaster that crushes cars in the junkyard.

Or how about a level crossing where every so often, the boom gates lower and a train comes along and runs over any bot in its path. The frequency at which the train appears is randomized before the match starts.

Perhaps there could be the toy room of a deranged child? The child rampages around the room, throwing toys at any bot it sees. The child is indestructible.

There's also the Land of Darkness...

You know, just a thought...

Hello and good evening to you.

Think of it like this:

A rookie archer draws his bow. He fires the arrow and misses the target completely. He picks up another arrow and fires again. Bulls-eye.

The arrow is the product.
The archer is the company/person that made the product.
The bow is the distribution media/method.
The target is the intended audience.

Companies make a product for a specific audience. Sometimes, it reaches the audience, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it's 50/50. Just look at My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It was designed for girls and young women, yet has a massive male fan base. Likewise, CoD has a significant female fan base (nowhere near as large as the male MLP fan base, known as Bronies).

In the end, the target audience is, in my dumb opinion, less significant than putting effort into the final product. Looking back at MLP, the Bronies don't like it just to prove society wrong; it's actually a high-quality television show and is seen by most as one of the last good children's TV shows.

Good evening yet again.

This showcase sucks and I hate it.

I just want to restart this showcase.

In fact, I just want a fresh start on Gametechmods.

I am being completely sincere when I say this: If any moderators are reading this post, please delete every single thread I have started and notify me via personal message when the job is done.

EDIT: I changed my mind. I shall carry on with what I have!

Discussion / Carbon Fiber Armor/Extenders
« on: June 27, 2013, 01:33:37 AM »
Hello and good evening to you.

Antweights are tough to build because of the weight constraints. Carbon Fiber (CF) Armor and proper extenders should help.

Carbon Fiber armor is as light as a feather and just as resilient.

CF 1: 2 mass, 100 health
CF 3: 6 mass, 325 health
CF 5: 10 mass, 540 health
CF 10: 22 mass, 1440 health.

As for carbon fiber extenders, just make them like normal extenders: round and six attachment points.

...You know, just a thought...

Good evening and:
Yeah where you live... Right now where I am it's 12:30.
I never said 11:00pm YOUR time! But no matter...

This is the picture of RNF-0032III "Cutting Wedge III" in its current form:

Downsized for your convenience.

It is a 399Kg Middleweight (I have another, a Chewblade drum bot called "Roto-Mole")

(This is Roto-Mole. It isn't a serious bot, but then again, I'm not really a serious builder.)

ANYWHO...
Aluminum 5 Armor, a box chassis, and a bunch of other junk the pros suggested I add to CW.
Granny wheels on NPCs to make it invertable (and somewhat self-righting). Don't ask questions.

More on that tomorrow; Good night for now.

Also coming soon: Why you shouldn't let me build a serious MW hammer

And a heavyweight. Or is it a superheavyweight? Heavy? Super Heavy? I don't know (It weighs EXACTLY 800Kg).

Good evening yet again.

Did you even AI it?

I never planned on/really considered AI-ing it.

Besides, Cutting Wedge III is on its way, so CW II is almost obsolete.

More on CW III at 11...

Good evening again.

Okay, I have started working on the design of Cutting Wedge III.

-It has NPC-T64 Motors with Hypno wheels and only one BSG-200 with NINE razors.
-Powered by four battlepacks.
-Still uses Titanium 3 armor
-Weighs 398.8Kg

More on that at 11...

(EDIT) For reasons of reasons, please skip the first two pages. Start at page 3.

Say it with me now: Hello and good evening to you.

So I heard you are building a popup.

Here, use this beast as a template

Not impressed? Just look at this:

Same robot, just cooler.

RNF-0032II "Cutting Wedge II" is the name. Where is your robot now?

Look at the insides:

Quite frankly, I don't really care about going overkill on batteries. I like my bots to have plenty of power for long matches.
Magmotors+Wide ant wheels=Zero Ground Clearance and still decently fast.
EIGHT razors fly out at your opponent for maximum damage. Each polycarbonate rack of four is individually controlled by two BSG-200 burst motors
Titanium 3 armor gives it maximum defense while keeping it below 400Kg.
The Titanium sheet wedge has slipped CW under countless bots and led it to glorious victory.

This thing will devour everything in its path.

Here it is mangling SlashBack:

Not impressed?

It can even take out some heavyweights. Just ask poor Backyard Shredder.

And it isn't even done.

Uh, never mind.

Not even community-made bots stand a chance.

Poor Smashbox. How could this get any worse for him?

Everyone, bow down to your new Middleweight God, or else you shall RUE the day you tangoed with...

RNF-0032II "Cutting Wedge II"

P.S. I still have Cutting Wedge I. Same chassis, mag snappers, large ants, skirt wedges. Less resistant to attacks, but self-rights easier.

General Support / Re: DSL Stops Working
« on: June 14, 2013, 07:16:13 PM »
Good evening once more.

To answer Trovaner:

1: Yes, it crashes every time I start, followed by a not responding message. There is no runtime error message.
2. Stock still works for me. This only ever happens on DSL.
3. The only other mod I installed is the unlimited mass mod on DSL. On Stock, I have the 1.3 patch.

The error says:

[error]RA2.EXE has stopped working.
Windows is looking for a solution for the problem...[/error]

By the way, let's test the Starcore effect.

Starcore is cool.

General Support / DSL Stops Working
« on: June 13, 2013, 11:55:28 PM »
Hello and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH to you.

As if the Compressor Arena and Ocean Platform crashing wasn't bad enough, now the WHOLE GAME stopped working!

The game starts at the screen with all of the logos. It stays there for some time before crashing! NNNNNNNNGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!  :realmad(
This has happened TWICE. The first time, I closed the game at the bot repair screen during an event. The second time this happened, I closed the battle in an event with Alt+F4.
I still have both folders on my flash drive. Neither of them can run DSL.
No other files have been affected by this event.
What do I do to fix these games?

Potentially helpful info:
OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1 (I don't know why I got Win 7 Pro; Don't ask questions)
DSL Version: 2.1, Downloaded from the RA2 Wiki

General Support / Re: Compressor Arena Crashes
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:37:33 PM »
Good evening once more.

Thanks for trying to help, but...

*AHEM*

IT DIDN'T WORK :realmad(

DSL gave me this error message on both arenas:

[error]|Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library|

Runtime Error!
Program: G:\PC Games\DSL 2.1\Robot Arena 2.exe (I store my DSL files on a flash drive)
abnormal program termination

|OK|[/error]

And so, I am still  :vista:.
As a result, I am  :frown:.

General Support / Compressor Arena Crashes
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:04:57 PM »
Hello and good evening to you.

I have DSL 2.1 running on Windows 7 pro, and I would like to know...

WHY THE STRAWBERRIES DOES IT CRASH WHEN I ENTER THE COMPRESSOR ARENA?

Seriously! The match starts, but the bots don't move. The game crashes within ten seconds.

This also happens with the ocean platform arena.

What's strange is that the rest of the game runs just fine. So whenever this happens, I go from :mad1: to  to ::2mad to :realmad( finally to :vista:

How do I fix this so I can stop being  :vista:?
