It's funny because the devs made this new gun to nerf flyers by only allowing it to be placed on top of the bot. They might have failed to realize that with the help of ballast cubes you can make an inverted flyer and have the gun pointing down.

If anything plasma will make virtually no difference because Flying Laser Rectangles will still dominate this game.

Plasmas have insane range compared to lasers, so with a bit of target practice you can take them out and stay safely way out of range of their lasers. Plasma flyers on the other hand, is what concerns me.
Look, flyer controls range, they don't need "insane" range to kill a gunbed, they just need..... 2 more meters, like say if they use front mount instead of top mount.

I know that. I think you misread my last post. It's not the flyers that need insane range but the ground units that have plasmas have a huge range advantage compared to laser flyers. So they can shoot them out from a distance with a bit of aiming practice.

Of course if you are picked as their target you'll have a hard time aiming the plasma guns or fail completely but you still have your teammates backing up. There will always be one player that will be serve as bait while the others try shooting the flyer down. Everyone wants to get of rid of them so someone will surely back you up.
You can be a plasma and be picked first by the flyer but what are the odds of having just one plasma in your team?

The real issue is having plasma flyers. Those stay way out of the lasers range, plasma ground units will have a near impossible task to shoot them down and the flyer will safely bombard us to pieces.
Do remember that a laser is instantaneous and a plasma cannon is not, and can be dodged with more ease as the range increases.

This goes both ways.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: what books do you read
« on: March 08, 2014, 12:21:43 PM »
I don't always read books (some people don't believe that) but when I do, mining my dad's stash of Dean Koontz books is one of my most favorite things to do.

Of everything I read, he usually writes gore/horror, action-y adventure or something detective-y. Or a crazy awesome fusion of the three. The imagery he uses is vivid af and reading some of the stuff he writes sends chills down my back

some of the ones I've read so far:
What the Night Knows (Gorror)
The Darkest Evening in the Year (Action/adventure)
Odd Interlude (Action/Adventure)
One Door Away from Heaven (I'm really not sure.. Incredible read though)

I read the entire thing of Harry Potter, which was great (when I was 11)

Slaughterhouse 5, which I read part of, was amazing and I wish I had it so that I can read it again (Kurt Vonnegut is a hell of a writer)

I have a digital copy of the Palladium's Compedium of Weapons, Armour and Castles which is my new religion (Basically a roleplayer's guide, but full of amazing weapons, some that I've never heard of before, and the floorplans of castles and castle styles which is suh-weet)

Haha, I don't think you should include me. Unless it involves skinning with decent references. Then maybe.
The skins you make on your bot are very crisp, and though you don't exactly make replicas, it's a good skill to have to do so from what I understand.

Now this is interesting. Tommy is like Drew Carey, and Sonny is like the venerable Bob Barker.

I think that, after Tommy learns the ins and outs of BFE and component skinning if he decides to go that way, that he can co-pilot this thread and Sonny can get the rest that we all know he deserves.

And, Sonny, no one could top you. If Domanating, 123STW, Wham and Redline conjoined all their building knowledge and powers to make the most bitchin' (insert extremely complicated bot here) replica, you could blow it out of the sky by opening up ra2 and sneezing on the mouse. There's only one replica king.

I can see plasma cannon fliers being honestly overpowered if the enemy team doesn't have a laser flier.

But then again, it's a welcome change from all the gunbeds...
Kinda reminds you of the shelling power of a Basilisk, doesn't it?

This'll bring about some fun. It's a bit boring with just the lasers.

This isn't really related to builds or anything (basically the same stuff I had at tier 2 is now tiers 3 and 4)...

(Image removed from quote.)

But I think these numbers are inaccurate.
Eh. The numbers have gotten pretty high when I played.

Lmao it's called glass cannon

If thats glass my robot is made of dust specks
Now that it's greened out, probably not that much of a glass cannon. Although, at ~t6 with only green and orange armor, I can't imagine that it's armor > firepower

The Arrogance is only t5 and it barely survives a fight with a fellow t5 tank, and it's fully greened out with hints of orange

Also, what is up with 'Inner' and 'Cubes'? Component armor vs actual cube armor?
Because how you build it makes a difference.  Having multiple non connected layers means it will take that many hits for a shot to actually hit a vital part.

"Inner" and "Cube" are two different components.  Inner are the cube with a trimmed corner.  It still comes with 6 connection points, so you can just rotate it to hide the trimmed corner.  A cube weights 5kg while an inner weights 3.35, it makes a difference because this game is actually sensitive to weight and balance.
I will not reduce my venerable Fortress of Arrogance to such distortion of reality, warped wretch! Yeah I realize that, but it's fun.

Ah, I see. I figured by 'inner' you meant component armor like how the higher tier fliers have the massive jets protecting their pilot block because they have asstons of health.

My next tank will do all the armor sorcery and black magic though.

Also is it me or Tier 3 increases your earnings ?

It's not about tier but about the components' level used. Higher tiers logically have bots with better guns, armor and so on. Destroying better equipment gives you more RP than destroying less upgraded stuff.

It's not the kills or base captures that give you the most earnings. It's the amount of cubes you shoot off.
Also, how do they figure Bravery points?

I hope a friends system is added soon

Between Dom's Ironclad, AS's Pepsimaaan, 123's now-floaty thingy and the Fortress of Arrogance (renamed because I'm an utter pillock), we have tons of firepower.

Yeah, went to troubleshooting, fixed that.

Also I never get any kills. I must suck at firing.

Aiming is hard. It needs some practice. You could try taking the lateral paths and and attack others from behind. It's the tactic I use because my ship isn't made for frontal assaults
This. Some tanks and ships (I have to call them that. They don't feel like robots.), when you build them, correspond to a tactic that works best for them.

My tank, the Fortress of Ignorance, has an excellent frontal heading, so facing the target and picking at them from afar with my L4 cannon is a good tactic for me. But, also because it has an excellent frontal heading and enough guns, I can come in close and directly engage a couple of other tanks and weather the attack for long enough to do critical damage to both before having to pull back and resort to the first tactic.

Fliers, on the other hand, I'm not sure how to effectively counter against except for with a new bot entirely. The best way to defend against fliers is keeping them on radar with a higher level radar device, then just go at them whether you can reach them or not, and really go at them when you can.
