not sure yet (im focusing on finishing the current build :P)

I imagine with mr whales we can work out something, I just think it would be fun to introduce them into competition play.
Oh yeah, it definately would.
Just put in air baloons, tazers, giant ballz and halon gas and then it's the 90's again

heck I will spill the beans here... the first expansion for Backlash will be Projectiles and Fire  :gawe:
Cool, should have known about the fire, but how are the projectiles gonna be balanced?

People from England talk funny.
Hell no. We from the South talk without a hint of an accent. Only East London, Liverpool and the entire North have a considerable accent, but don't talk funny either.
I'm from the north, very north indeed actually (cumbria TBH).
I don't talk with a cumbrian accent thank god, i'm too middle class for that  ;)

Actually IRW, where I come from chav's are the large majority
And having met and hidden myself among the chav community, I can report that nfx's stereotypes for chavs are also true.

Actually he wasn't. He did won championship in 2008. And the car was sh** in 2009.
Yes i know he won the 08 championship. My reply was half sarcastic really.
In his earlier mclaren days he did drive like a world champion, by the time he drove for ferrari he'd got complacent and arrogant.

Ferrari were always gonna choose alonso over their current drivers, and when it comes to crunch time who would you sack? Massa who had performed the better out of the two (IMO atleast) and was well liked in the paddock and had great appeal to the fans and the press, or the arrogant, under performing former champion.

English people have bad teeth.

English people drink tea all day.

English people think that they should still own America.

All I've heard...
The bad teeth thing stems back from the tudor times where because of the high amount of sugar consumed it was true

I do love a nice cup of tea, but TBH i have an unhealthy addiction to pepsi diet more than anything els

The last one's true if your english and over 35
English people have a tendency to shove cheese up their noses.
I believe that's France you're thinking of.
That one's very true for the french

It looks kinda heavy, you could probably scrap it for an independent self righting mechanism an it would be lighter.
Poly skirt only cost 7kg each....  You can't make an independent self right mechanism with 14kg.  Nor are independent self right mechanism ever worth the KG.  Burst motors + Batteries are way too expensive if you are not putting weapons/wedge on it.
Bleh, sorry major mess up there, I thought it needed the back stabilizer and the poly skirts to self right, not just the skirts  :embarr

The poly skirts are attatched to the Bursts, so it self rights perfectly unless up against a wall. However, they do stop popping power in tight spaces, so when they are lost damage potential goes up a little.

Formula 1 is boring nowadays. Back in 2003-2008 it was interesting but not anymore.

Why so?
No Mansell.
No mansell in 03-08 either.
Although, 03-08 was a rather boring time in f1 actually, where the giant forehead of schumacker still loomed.
I think jonzu lost interest after a certain misserable finnish driver left f1....
Edit: I was correct  ;), also jonzu, you do realise raikonen was kicked out of ferrari because he was rubbish

Well you guys are very good at motorsport.

I agree with most of those points above. Another thing which annoys me is invincible halfsheet armour, even though I use it to attach a whole robot sometimes.

Anyways, following scorpions advice of adding a weapon and making it a pure popup or VS, i made it a popup. A fairly realistic one, as they go. :P

(Image removed from quote.)

Large JX's, Tite 3, A large amount of razors. Poly angled skirts of self righting. :P
Lol, that's a nice pic, but whats the thing on the back?

I suggest only one spike, 3 would drain the gas supply.
Can it be a big spike  :gawe:

Well me and a few chums have decided to try and build a real robot.

We've got a design for a small 4WD wedge shaped bot (think storm 2 from newblood) with 3 holes to fit 3 angled, pneumatic spikes (kind of a small piston popup design) to be fired out when the bot's underneath the other bot.

Any help or advice would be VERY handy, e.g part advice, buying places advice, whether the designs even possible advice.

Oh, and we'd probably want it to be at the most a lightweight.

To keep a variety of bots though, most people will just put wedges on anyway and hope they're the lucky ones.
It's annoying, if there was a sure fire way to making  the best wedges it would make things a lot more interesting.
Nope.  The moment another niche is discover that improves wedge power, everyone would copy it.  It's the same when everyone ditch skirt hinge for metal hinge, and strait skirt to angle skirt to small wedge + extender.  So it will still come down to luck in most cases

I agree that pre-made disk tends to suck.  The original has 200 kg worth of DS light so as to not get de-weaponed by S/SnS so easily.
Yeah, I know it will still come down to luck, I just mean it would be better if there was not the huge luck value in it.

Then again, that would probably just mean that any bots with wedges would cancel each other out, and that would be even more dull.

There's no such thing as "defense against being outwedged".  If there is then you won't see this much wedge bots around.

Your only choice against wedge are
1.  Have the better wedge (or whoever luck out in the first rush)
2.  Wedgeless VS
3.  De-weapon from above (top/bottom potter armor, or some kind of HS made to fight on top)
4.  Sweep (Flail SnS)
5.  Heavy armored with Self Right (only works when combined with 1)

The next question would be, how do you  have one of these features without getting slaughtered by Flail SnS?  2 is eliminated.  3 only works when combine with 4.  Since 1 is typically uncontrollable, that leaves 4 and 5.

Flail SnS beats VS, Most wedges, HS, S, and other Flail SnS
Potter Armored Flail SnS beats VS, Wedges, HS, S, and other Flail SnS
Armored Wide Popups with perfect self right beats Non Pottered Armored Flail SnS, shell, HS, slight advantage over other wedge
Armored VS beats Wedge, some shell.

Probably why those are the only 2 types of bots I build nowadays.  Flail SnS (with armor), and armored wide popup with self right.

Alternatively, you can save yourself the headache by trying to beat just one type of bot, and that what the original Fat Rat was intended to do; to kill Flail SnS.
To keep a variety of bots though, most people will just put wedges on anyway and hope they're the lucky ones.
It's annoying, if there was a sure fire way to making  the best wedges it would make things a lot more interesting. Or if wedges just weren't in the game, like backlash I believe.

Still I think we're getting slightly off-topic, I didn't say change the shape, I don't think that's necessary. I simply think that better weaponry could be placed on this bot.
