so tempted to play this

(Image removed from quote.)

If only I had the time...

Oh, so it's still OK for me to repeatedly breed Pokemon with their own children and siblings in order to get the one with the best IV's?  Cool!  :trollface

The LW actually looks pretty cool... I didn't realize what the chassis was until I saw the name.

The MW on the other hand, looks kinda rubbish.  Far too narrow to be good, but then again I'm guessing this is primarily a joke bot.

Looking pretty good, but doesn't the weapon scraping the ground hurt it?  (When I said make an upper and lower set of support extenders, I meant put the lower set below the disc, to keep it off the ground.)  If it works fine with the disc on the ground though, ignore what I just said.

Beater bars are the standard choice for extenders on this design, since they also function as weapons.

Not sure what you mean by "it'll fly carrying the opponent".  Do you mean it will sort of tip forwards and flip itself over?  If so, rammers almost always do that on a box-rush.  In fact, any non-wedge-shaped bot will do that.  If you find a way to fix it, tell me.

How did I not see your Slaying Mantis and Fire Beetle?  Both look great.  Is that the old hourglass Arthrobotics logo I see on the side of SM?

Now make a DSL IRL Slaying Mantis V. :gawe:

Also Stampede looks like it needs a thin metal sheet between the two wedge prongs to turn it into a dustpan.

Only glaring weak point I can see is the side panel between the discs. It's only got something like 1800HP, if I remember rightly (I probably don't), so a good hit to that could take the entire weapon system off.

LOL I guess I didn't take screenshots from very good angles...

The Perm is not actually attached to the shell panel.  It's attached to a multiextender on the baseplate.  If you look very closely at the bottom left picture, you can sort of see it.  The shell panel is just there for a bit of extra protection.

Just when I thought I couldn't keep up with regular DSL anymore... inspiration strikes.  I made this bot for Two Tribes:

In a nutshell, this bot is built to be indestructible.  "Cuendillar" is a magical substance also known as heartstone from the Wheel of Time series, that only gets stronger as more force is applied to it.

The four heavy plows protect it against all front, side, and rear attacks except extremely powerful hits from flail SnS.  The casters on the bottom protect it against popups and gutrippers.  Why casters?  Because popups and some VS can hit through titanium half sheets.  I put half sheets on there first, but Hope No More was KO'ing it in under a minute.  Not so with casters.  And the weapons protect the top.

How durable is it?  Well, I fought every HW in 123AI except SnS, shell spinners, and flail bots (because those are banned in Two Tribes) and only Frequency managed to KO it in 3 minutes, by outweaponing it and then crawling on top (although Root Beer came close the same way).  Cuendillar didn't BEAT all the other HW's, but it did survive the whole 3 minutes, which is the goal.

But what's the point of surviving if you can't WIN?  Not much one-on-one, but I built Cuendillar for Two Tribes.  Cuendillar is a team player.  It's meant to be a punching bag to distract one or both opponents while its teammate gets an opportunity to flank.  Or if both opponents happen to go after its teammate, no problem--Cuendillar is good at flanking and the weapon is good enough to score KO's when given the opportunity.  Also, I purposely gave it a small weapon diameter to minimize the chance of friendly fire.

And since the only way to eliminate an opponent in Two Tribes is by KO (at first), Cuendillar is going to be a tough nut for the other tribe to crack.  Most likely, it won't get eliminated until the stage where immobilizations and OOTAs count for losing a life.  As long as Cuendillar flanks and KO's at least two opponents before then, mission accomplished.

Its only major weakness is that popups love to eat its wheels.  Unfortunately, the only wheels with more than 3500 HP are huge and would only delay the inevitable.  NOTE TO TEAM CAPTAIN:  Pair Cuendillar with something that can kill popups!

Stats:  5mm titanium armor (to absorb stray chassis hits), 5 ant batteries (to last the whole 3 minutes), Perm 132 for the weapon, normal NPC's for drive (I'll take the 12000 HP, thank you very much).  Snowplow wedges are surprisingly mediocre.  Not horrible like I thought they would be, just mediocre.  Most bots slide right under easily, but occasionally Cuendillar can get a surprise wedge on an opponent it shouldn't be able to get under.  The skirt on top is for self-righting, which it does quickly and consistently.

Now I know you're going to wonder why I don't put a proper wedge on it, and I could give you some excuse like, "It doesn't need one", "It couldn't self-right if it had a wedge" (actually a valid reason), or "I don't have weight for one", but the simple truth is I'm sick of fighting the wedge war and don't want to even bother.

Fun fact:  I was originally trying to build a turret hammer like Thunderhead.

However, it was too top-heavy and wasn't good at hitting bots underneath it.  I think this design only works well in SHW.  Also, it was too fast and bad against VS.  I took out two drive motors and wondered what to do with those big ugly gaps there, and the bot ended up transmogrifying into a VS.

Craaig did you get my updated Containment Cube .py with better AI spike navigation?  I just uploaded it with my whole site update.

I actually used this for the latter part of Ironbot, after noticing several spike issues in previous rounds, so it is pretty well tested.  Just make sure to give the AI a reasonable radius in Bindings.py.  Common practice is to set 'radius':0.1, but 1 works a lot better.

Found this in the stock ReadMe...

Code: [Select]
Damage messages:

On - all normal damage indicators

Off - no immobility warnings; no player status bars; no scoring
indicators

You can turn damage indicators and immobility warnings off? Maybe it just means all of the screen overlays during battle... Hell if I know.

All that does is hide all the extra graphics that appear on the screen, so you only see the bots and the arena.  When a bot is being immobilized, you only hear the "beep, beep, beep" and don't see the countdown numbers.  Makes a more "real-life" experience, as you can't see how many points, battery life, or chassis health the bots have.

I've found it useful to turn this off for taking screenshots of arenas for preview images.  You can set the match time to "no limit" to get rid of the clock too so there's nothing cluttering the screen.

Discussion / Re: A little something to cure wedges of AGOD
« on: June 30, 2012, 06:52:14 PM »
I've noticed the same thing with skirts.

On my most recent bot, the wedges were AGODing severely no matter what I did.  Then I took off a 120cm skirt I was using for a srimech, and poof!  No AGOD.  Put it back on, AGOD comes back.  I took it off and replaced it with a 120cm extender and then a 120cm DSL bar, and no AGOD there either.

I tried reattaching the skirt in different ways and different rotations, and every time the bot had a skirt somewhere on it, it got AGOD.  Whenever it didn't have a skirt, it didn't have AGOD either.

Then I rebuilt it from the ground up (for reasons that had nothing to do with AGOD) and I was able to use the skirt srimech with no AGOD.

It would seem that certain components are "AGOD triggers", but that they don't always trigger AGOD on every bot.  So far we have motors and skirts as possible AGOD triggers.

Well now you have one more, at least.

Oh, and I'd like to opt out of captain.  I don't think I get on the site often enough.

Mechavore disc is perfect but the extenders need work.  It will look MUCH better if you make the chassis wider and put extenders coming directly off the corners, instead of that wonky flipper segment setup you have there.  You certainly have weight for a wider chassis.

Ideal setup is four extenders, a lower and an upper set.

Nice use of PA spikes.  The spinner seems a bit superfluous though.  I think I would like it better as a pure pusher/flamer.

Buzzard wheels are basically the same as rubber wheels, which are perfectly acceptable wheel choices.  They just look different and don't fit on most bots, which is why they're not used often.  But they fit here.

On topic: have you tried adjustable rams to possibly make bots slide up the bot easier? kinda like a vertical seism 13.

I'm not sure what you're talking about exactly, but it sounds rather heavy and cumbersome.  I already have a good idea of what I will do for Drumblebee 9, which is to put the drum further back and put more of a wedge in front.

Are you also going to upload an Ironbot AI pack as well?

I have no plans to do that.  Seems rather pointless when Ironbot was all about damage carrying over to future rounds.  If you just wanted some tough HW's to fight there are plenty of good options in AI packs that also include LW's and MW's.

Also, what Mr. AS said.

And I still can't upload large .zip files.    Managed to get the Containment Cube (with updated .py for better AI spike navigation) up, but the Epic Showdown (which is a larger file) keeps getting interrupted.  I think it has to do with the internet in my cabin and I will have to wait until I get home to upload that.

No.  Most bots have casters with bigger gaps between them than that.  They only need to be close enough to block most weapon hits, they don't need to be airtight.

Of course, it all depends on how it performs in testing... if you try it with bigger gaps and it gets hit, then stick with the close casters.  I'm just saying that if you could make do with less casters you could get more weapons or armor or something.

Edit:  Or were you asking if I was being sarcastic about the bot being pretty good?  In that case the answer is also no, it does look pretty good.

Looks awesome but maybe a little too much glass and not enough cannon...

Might be better off with something more like my Red Sky at Morning.

Also the popup is so tiny!!  But does that make it good?  Near as I can tell it's the same as Nale, but smaller, with less battery power and 1 extra razor.

Whoa that is awesome.  I would never think to do that.

My first thought was, "LW Swiss Army Bot".

Is it as good as CPIV against HS, or do you need the dual tribars to kill HS?

Popup looks pretty good!  Those casters are really tightly packed; I bet you could take a couple of them out with no ill effects.
