Thanks. The hardest part was trying to do that paint job. i must've tried about forty different textures on it, plus i layered on a lot of scrathes and dents. One of the panels behind the N-12 wheel is even made of wood.
Now, of course, you flip it over, and the bottom is glossy black ...

Posted the pics of Gran'Pa's Toolbox in the Robot Showcase - it's the "not-so-stock, but fun anyway ..." post.
I'll hafta u/l more pics of some of my other creatures ... I mean creations - sooner or later. About half are stock RA2 components, the rest are WAY out there with custom stuff.

How are the cut-out decals created, like the radiation symbol and the gear?

Thanks for the link - you're right, those DO look cool on the robots!

Someone built a spiked wedge that you could use instead of the standard wedge on your flipper. I'm using it on several of my original RA2 robots for scooping and throwing.
Don't ask where I found it - I've been to so many sites searching for parts that I couldn't tell you if my life depended on it ....

Speaking of motherboards, I'm glad to see the new motherboard can be mounted in three different directions. It got real difficult trying to fit the original board in after filling up the robots with weaponry/motors/etc. Now just slap a vertical board against the side of your battery, and you're good to go.

Thought you guys would enjoy seeing a "low-budget" robot I built using tools you would normally find in your garage. (Yeah, custom and cheat parts, but I don't care - i built it for fun). This is Gran'Pa's Toolbox. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/3683/stoolbox033kw8nq.jpghttp://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8029/stoolbox017vj4rd.jpghttp://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9143/stoolbox025tv1yc.jpgSpecs are (more-or-less): 5 magic motors -2 for drive, 3 for spinning weapons 2 stock snapper motors 1 earthquake DDT 1 stock burst piston Power - RyanRulez' portable reactor (Wastegate hacked by me) (this will change - was too lazy to put the real batteries and airtanks in!) Weaponry consists of: Tire iron / Coca Cola Cam Hammer Wham bat DeWalt Hand Drill & drill blade Car fan blade Shovel flipper Sledgehammer Crowbar Cinderblock ram 2x4 Screwdriver Oh, and yes, those tires are mismatched, just for fun. also, cocks.

How about a junkyard arena? The walls could be piles of junked cars and assorted debris. The floor could be dirt (grease- and oil-stained, of course). possible hazards could be a pit, falling debris, the car-crusher (like the crusher arena, just on one side), the wrecking crane with a magnet or claw ...
If you really wanted to get into this theme, you could also make a junkyard AI team (kinda like Steelyard Dog), but make them "low-budget" robots using whatever you can find. I have a RA2 robot i built for fun using all tools for weaponry - the crowbar, car fan blade, baseball bat, tire iron, DeWalt hand drill, screwdriver ... you get the idea, tools that would normally be found in any garage. And, aptly, i named it Gran'pa's Toolbox. Yeah, it's full of cheat parts, but since I wasn't planning on really using it for real combat .... I'll see if i can upload a couple of pictures for you guys, along with whatever specs i can remember :)

man, are you kidding? We'd have an AI team the size of Kansas or something
"Player One, you have 5,749 computer robots to still fight in this competition. You are SO screwed ...."
lol
I do like the idea about the contest, though - everyone sends in like one or two of each category, and the best get chosen for the game.
