Contests / Re: Vote BOTM march 2010
« on: March 02, 2010, 03:00:06 PM »
Thanks everyone who voted for me.  The reason I didn't do a video was because I couldn't get the thing to walk straight; putting "scaffold" on each leg took me right to the brink of the Rule of 7, so a proper walking mechanism was out of the question.

Pleeeeeease release a download SOnny!

Lost of good stuff here.  I tried my hand ay making a replica from a Stock chassis, the best I could do was Ghetto-Bot from Ronin's chassis.  Anyone who knows Ghetto Bot knows why I didn't even bother entering.

If I had to make a prediction, I'd say Sage and Scrap Daddy make the final, and Scrap Daddy wins.

I took Delldog that I build for the RWW, so I think that`s no prob. And why not reusing robots? I may enter with one robot more than one tourney if the rules match.

Edit:

if there won`tbe enougth entrys for that you could get over to the UK vs. Germany mode:

Veterans fight Veterans until one is left. the same with the newbies. Those two fight in the final.

Yeah but in the end, only one fight is actually between a veteran and a newbie, so what's the point?

What do you mean real Americans!

Didn't you know?  The Real Americans are the ones who recognize Richmond Virginia as their Capital.

Thanks everyone, to answer some questions:

I pulled the NPC's into the body a little so that there'd be a visible gap between the extenders and the wheels.  It does look better this way, I experimented with it

Skirt extenders, I've thought about it, but the small wedges were easier to work with; I could mount them at a 90-degree angle to get that nice slant.  I had considered mounting skirt extenders on a burst, but space is just too tight; I'm using a superflat chassis, and as it is, I can only fit 3 of those skinny black batteries

Aces and Eights

I know Scrap Daddy did this one too, but I wanted to see if I could do anything about the "too squareness" he had talked about, so I built my own from scratch.

looks good. Will it be in a fight soon?

It was Hogwild's request, so the plan is to have it in the Reserve Rumble.  I might use it again in a all-Scottish tournament.

does it spinn stable?

Yep, it's quite similar to your Delldog; a centralized motor connects to extenders and discs, that have blades on the end.  12 teeth in all.

Ok heres the new Sir Knight:

It actually moves a lot faster now. Its also lighter (as you can see). What do people think of the second bot?

Don't concern yourself over "lighter," it's not important as long as it doesn't affect which weight class you're in.  As a general rule, you should always be trying to do one of these two things with your design:

-Get your bot as close to the weight limit as possible
-Make your chassis as compact as possible (ie, the minimum amount of empty space)

I'm hesitant about those Snappers with razors, as Snappers don't really have the power to flip a heavyweight.  It looks like you've got enough room for two side-by-side DDT's, though, maybe consider that in your next build.

Very well done, I can see you've had a lot of practice.

My only suggestion is that the third one is way overpowered; 4 blacks is more than enough.  Also, that one burst with an entire "T" of spikes won't do you much good.  Can you fit a DDT in there?

No need to apologize, just make sure you crop your pictures in the future.  You'll gain a lot more respect.
