yeah I think that was the most interesting thing about the video. Seeing a person playing a game I know like the back of my hand for the first time and me sitting there getting pissed at the stupid decisions he made.

I wasn't so much as getting pissed, just laughing about it, cause yeap, he has no knowledge about the game

Also: OH MY GOD ITS JAWS!
I kinda hoped he would've faced Grog on a better map, his reaction would be perfect

Wished he would've faced someone like Shebeast or any of the ra1 bots

lol kossokei, nobody pressures to build DSL standard anymore... these days it's all "IT'S NOT IRL OMGWTFBBQHAX!!!1!1!one!"

also go away with your advertising of a less manly style
I'll make sure this is the last I post of this conversation, but if you look at the next 3 posts after OP- rnif, tommy and ribbs all gave advice geared towards DSL-S and even though most IRL builders follow half of those procedures anyway, I don't think mentioning yours or 123's showcase would be advice for IRL building.

So, no, no-one really aggressively pressures to build it, but they subconsciously do. Or at least, those three.

I find it interesting that nerdcubed's video is not only bringing in new members, but doing a bit of a call-back on older members too-

Just this morning I spoke to Doomkiller in the chat section

however, knowing your exploits in ra2 I wouldn't be surprised if you meant entire robots built from the ground up in a text editor in a way that you couldn't discern them from properly built ones...
You can't tell that something is wrong when nothing breaks after 20 million damage?

Anything connected to the chassis cannot break, that's why caster armor works.  If you build outside of the bot lab with no restrictions, you can just put a tiny chassis inside a black battery so it can never be hit.  Plus you can change chassis armor value up to a million just in case.
nono I don't mean that, I mean I wouldn't be surprised if he built a bot in a text editor that would be within regulation (nix the fact that it'd be entirely BFE/AAM) from the ground up.

I'm pretty aware of how limitless you can go with text editing, but I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised if he just decided to build a completely legal bot from the ground up completely outside of the botlab

It's certainly creative. I think everyone's made a turret hammer here, no matter how great or terrible lol.

I'll give it to you slowly. First order of events, spin motors only need 1 ant to power them, everything else has to be fully powered. We all questioned it as noobs but the reason why doesn't really matter.

There is an image uploader for your pictures. It's on the home page on the left and says "image host". I've never used the integrated image uploader but the image host is a bajillion times better, and easier for us to see because we're all grumpy old men.

Aaand one last thing- You might find people pressuring you to do one of two styles. They might make you do this;

Which is called DSL Standard and is exclusive to DSL. It's based on efficiency and less about looks. We generally see this type of building as competitive, and there's tons of technique and procedure and ladeedaa that goes about it.

And if you decide that style is for boring people and want to make something cool or robot wars-y, you'll be embraced by the people who do this;

and it's called DSL IRL. Not to be confused with DSL Realistic, which is not a building style, but a set of rules. This style is basically people who build stuff that looks like it could be built exactly in real life, and they take realism very seriously. Everything is very mutual and grey-area-sy, but some people find it very fun to do, and it's even kinda competative.

I'd be lying if I said we collectively encourage you to build whatever you want, because we don't. But, we do appreciate someone who can place chips in all styles.

Most importantly, don't be scared. We don't bite unless you stick your hand in our mouths, lol.

Clearly you haven't seen all the thrusters on it...
You do know that, even if you add a bajillion thrusters or the bestest wheel if you have 1 l1 wheel the entire tank will only go as fast as that wheel allows, right?

Out of 10 how would you rate the movement and the control.
8. Tested the wedges against two bots that are infamous for being wedgy and both trials went well. 4 hpz's and shinies are the standard for a heavyweight popup so I went with that.

double post

414
It doesn't need another black battery. It needs less razors and more armor.

So I'm thinking I should cut off 4 razors and add a ramplate or two. I'll do that a bit later.

415
it's mongol enough  :thumbup
You mean to tell me that I actually build a good hw popup in stock with my first shot?

I wanna think those are less wheelguards and more protection from hs but ehhh

I know nozink

417

2 blacks, 18 razors, still got a bit of weight to screw around with and a ballast for wedge efficiency (tested against RPB but not yet NWB)

The fact that craaig hides under a box made me giggle.

Online Battles / Re: GameRanger Multiplayer games
« on: March 22, 2014, 11:40:28 PM »
The lack of MP games in gameranger is probably attributed to the fact that this is basically the only forum left that even talks about RA2 anymore, and even then, there are problems with members being in completely different time zones and countries and what not, and some of us have lives to attend to outside of the forums. It's just one of those things.

We do run tournaments here, but they're done a little differently as to one's expectation because online play is never really reliable and again, differences in time zones would make coordinating the entire thing a handful.

Believe me, the community is bracing for an increase in members because of Dan's video. Most of us are excited, maybe a little scared, but yeah.

I do hope you enjoy your stay

And pay attention to colored names-

Black and Brown- Regulars and Roboteers, sometimes they're veterans and sometimes they're just dudes who are here. Sometimes they're kind, wise and helpful and sometimes they're not. Roboteers differ from regulars because they've built and competed with actual robots and that's cause for merit.

Gold- Advanced Users. These are usually either people who've added to the community in the sense of the game, or have been a positive influence to the community as a whole. Usually pretty nice guys, otherwise they're realistic but with good intention.

Purple- Veterans. These guys have been here longer than the website has in some cases. They have 5-12 years of experience being here under their belt. They're like our forum Dumbledores, Gandalfs and Merlins.

Dark Red Maroon Brown Thing- Tech Advisor. We have (2? 3?) of them here, and these are usually the guys who devote their brains to the mechanics of Robot Arena 2 as we try to get as creative as we can with the limitations we are given. Serge isn't really around anymore, but 123savethewhales usually is.

Pink- the Forum Sweetie. There is only one and she never comes around so don't worry about that one.

Blue- Global Moderators. Say hello to Naryar, our Glomod. He lives for justice and breathes law. He's also a very decent french fellow and knows a thing or two about building efficient killing machines, especially while drunk.

Red- Administrators. We used to have sort of a panel of administrators, but everyone gets busy eventually and now we have Trovaner, our main administrator. He's a nice fellow, usually busy doing what a Tech Advisor would do or trying to improve this forum for us, or handing out justice and breathing law.
