Custom Components Showcase / Re: Pay Tribute With Replicas

so, after trying and trying to make the walking system for Mammoth (series 3) i've managed to make it. but problems arrived also here. the walking system didn't spun around aimlessly, but it worked badly and the bot couldn't move backward, only forward. also the chassis continously fell down while the legs stood up, but that's because the extenders which should have sustained it were placed badly.
so for now. i'll stay away from the walkerbots territory until i find a way to make them better.
anyway, in the meantime i did another one using the OBJ2RA2 system.

and since Mammoth (Extreme Series 1) can be considered finished, let's pass to his Series 3 version.

gonna BFE those motors inside the legs. i tried to make a more realistic walking system, but again it doesn't work and the legs just flail around aimlessly. anyway.. can i place the motors in the chassis and then move the tires down using BFE without moving the rotation center?

also, little surprise for the next developments.

also, speaking about this mammoth

well...

finally i've managed to make the obj2ra2 system work. basically the process it's the same of the tutorial, but i had to turn to graphics to "low". this can be useful for that Doctor Fist replica i did a long time ago

Tbh, I've been here for such a short amount of time, that I can't really give a solid answer. Resetti is currently making Series 6 of Resetti's wars, TommyProductionsInc is, Idk, and others might be not playing RA2 anymore or not into making Replicas. I feel like people got into Replica making using RA2 because of Barangoat. This was my analysis, and it might be an official answer if corrected for a few things. Then again, I'm just a regular player. Also another reason that Replica making has slow down is that  many robots have been recreated to death (Cough cough HUGE),
or they are now more into Competitive play.
understood, also it's not only that some bots have been recreated to death (huge?), also some bots are too bad to be useful in combat.
i mean, i'm recreating mammoth, which was a really bad walkerbot. so you ask yourself "why doing such bad robot with no combat usefulness". and while some do them, some just don't care and prefer to do personal combat bots for competitive play.
i mean who would care to recreate such bot for combat?
https://robotwars.fandom.com/wiki/Mammoth_(Series_3)

also, who was barangoat? an user?

No need to delete them, plaguing your posts on this thread basically just shows your dedication to your work in my opinion
well, thanks!
well, i've already deleted some of them and only left the most big one.
anyway, if i can, as sagaris suggested, i will post progress on discord server and then the finished bot here.
also, checking older posts, it seemed that a lot of dedication was put by many users in replicas, especially Resetti. now it seems more silent. what happened? did many users left?

Can I make a suggestion that if you have discord you PM someone or join the GTM discord server and make progression in there. Leave the finished product for the replica showcase otherwise we are gonna have an entire page dedicated to just one build.
no wait. you have a discord server? i didn't knew.
also, yeah. it seems that i have plagued the thread with just my posts. gonna delete some of them.
if you can send me an invite i'll gladly joing the server.

ok, it seems that i am getting to finish it. the only thing lacking it's a proper walking system.

Best way to make a replica is to watch vids of it competing. Or in this case, few secods of the vid
true.

judging by that video (or gif in this case), it seems that legs don't scuttle forward and backwards, but more like some kind of elliptical movement, something like Clawed Hopper.
can be replicated (Resetti did with Clawed Hopper) but i need to find a way to place component and balance weights so that the feet don't begin spin around aimlessly. like this. (if anyone has some suggestions, i will gladly listen to those)

also, the wiki page cites a rear saw, at first i tought "circular saw", but it seems that it means this.

(can be seen also here)
basically somekind of chainsaw blade.
geee... talk about awful weapon positioning, a useless scoop which cannot lift an enemy because it's too high from the ground , an axe that doesn't reach the ground (or at least it seems so), and a saw which can't hit for the same motive. also it was a middleweight, thus losing the advantage of being a walkerbot (walkerbots where more heavier than normal bots, and so they were more difficult to lift and also they had more pushing power).

Yeah sadly the Resetti AI pack can mess up bots really hard due to all the custom and modded stuff..
yeah, i've noticed. same thing for the bots which use a manouverable 180 degree axe (like Crippler for example, or Thor). if you fall down and try to move the weapon, the bot start flying around the map.

anyway, i asked to the original author of Anarchy bot what kind of components he used, so i can add those in my vanilla DSL pack and try to make Anarchy work.

that's anarchy
the author of this one said that he lost the bot file a long time ago.
it's nice to see that it's still archived here :)
anyway, i tried to test it on DSL 2.2, crashed the game (missing components)
tried it on Sonny Resetti AI Pack and this was the result.

this is not normal.

Is that your way of asking for a replica? Again, that's a taboo on here...
...buuuuut, I DO recall making a replica of Anarchy years ago, and it was pretty damn good. I lost the botfile though, but here's a pic of it:

no, no, i wasn't asking for someone to make a replica, just saying. i would like to replicate that bot but sadly i have other stuff to do. that cardboard bot was an exception, but i should concentrate on other stuff now that i finished it.

and also, nice replica! but did you made also the walking mechanics or you decided to use wheels?

Recyclopse
(Image removed from quote.)
Theres only one other Recyclopse rep and its from 2011
that's a pretty cool replica!
you know what would be a cool bot to replicate? Anarchy!

i'm going to replace that tab with glue. it was just a placeholder to keep it together for the photo. also i still have to tweak some stuff.
first it lacks weapons, second i inverted the weapon slots (the little black rectangle should be on the right while the bigger one on the left), and third the paper model it's too little, need to print it bigger.
anyway, guessed what is that bot?

I know this is probably a bit off topic since this is not a RA2 replica. But i wanted to post it anyway. Still not finished yet. Got some stuff wrong and lacks weaponry.

added "the black beast" to the download section, in case someone wants to try it.

Which components are they.
I'd suggest including them.
writing down bots which use custom stuff
Shapeshifter II: Scoop from DarkRat Pack and custom red armor plate texture
Rambot: Custom Armor Plate (used for Flipper)
Mastiff: Custom Skirt (used for Flipper)
The Black Beast: IRL Pack stuff
Rot Box: Same

anyway, ok. i'll try to include. maybe i should upload the bots which don't have so much custom stuff before.

and done!

but there's a thing i want to ask.
this bot (together with other ones) uses custom components which are not from DSL (those horns are from the coloured extenders pack).
in the download i should include those components, or they are "inserted" in the bot?

almost finished The black beast, but there's a problem.
is stacked together 4 extenders to do the flipper, but after a certain number of pieces stacked together it stop adding more, so i can't add double wedges but only one as you can see.

is it a bug or an engine limitation?
