Tutorials and Tips / Re: IRL - A Beginner's Guide
« on: March 22, 2020, 06:53:44 PM »
Updated this again. Rewrote the introduction to place more emphasis on the 'spirit' of IRL to coincide with the push to prevent slipping build standards. Also referred to the 2020 ruleset, and added a whole section on dos and don'ts of wedge design.
Good stuff my man

New one. This actually started as a vert but at some point I decided it would work better as a hammer, so that's what I did in the end. 1 frenzy hammer powered by a medium VDMA so should hit decently. I need to add a couple more batts, which I have spare weight for, but I can't be bothered taking this thing apart right now. There's been some discussion about the plough on the front in the discord, and I was considering skinning it as I built the thing, but that will depend on how hellish the mesh for it is. Some people said it looks good as-is though so swings and roundabouts innit.

you still continue to amaze me in how your bots are so good with such limited tools

Holy sh** these are good, not really much to complain about any of the bots in my eyes, but they're really well made

Odd, I went essentially a 180 of what I used to think. The white dot is where I was 3 years ago

Team Corrupt Code? It’ll be my first lightweight, and I have no idea if my schedule will line up with this but if you wanna tango, imma boogie.
Aight moldy sponge gonna be ready for this
That’s a lightweight?
In ironforge yeah, but converting it to DSL won't be much of an issue tbh

yeah, standard building is pretty much on permanent coma now. "C'est la vie". we can control GTM culture but i think it's a hivemind thing. most builders that come here are familiar with irl, so they build IRL. and most standard builders left or no longer bother with RA2.

and we ARE relics of a bygone age, it's true. but the fact that we still build is still something.

yes. but rest easy knowing that you can destroy almost any builder on the forum without even trying though :gawe:

again, nothing against irl but making good looking bots is only half the fun. the other half is combat and irl can't fight to the fullest the game allows because they can't take advantage of the way the game physics work. its kind of ironic that standard is actually closer to real life than irl is because standard and real life both play to the rules of physics of their respective domains and irl just makes choices based on looks alone that are ultimately arbitrary to actual combat effectiveness. it's really bizarre actually.

speaking of bizarre choices:

sns flipper hybrid babbbbyyyy
yea so this is kind of based off some of the advice i gave nary on his own psycho hybrid escapades. take a wild guess how combat effective this thing is lmao. doesn't matter, the concept is fun and i had fun building it. needs more batteries though. could be decent in pvp in a few arenas but with ai this thing is screwed.
You are going to get destroyed by my new invention

Welcome fellow humanoid, you seem to have gotten the hang of making bots already, you're doing pretty good I must say. However, there's a couple things you can improve
1. Use Counterweights like Nicky said, they'll work just as good but they're more tightly packaged, allowing for it to ultimately look better.
2. Your bots seem a bit low on the armor side, but due to their chonk factor I'd say they could be tough to kill
3.for flippers, I'd use armor panels like Nicky has said as well, extenders underneath them will also prevent you from clipping into the ground trying.to self right.
And lastly, enjoy your stay here, your bots seem pretty good as is, their skins are really well made too, and so I am excited for the things to come.

Well this is kinda depressing for a turnout. Thanks to the two who took part but I guess BOTM on the forum is not gonna happen anymore.
I think it was just that most forgot about it until the very end, and then most were doing holiday stuff so they couldn't get their bots done last minute
