A couple of things. First of all, some of you have probably seen this already, but for everyone else: thanks to the wonderful work of Mr AS we have a meme-tastic arena that, given its nature, this tournament demands:

I should be using this for the tournament, and I'll leave the upload of it to his discretion, I'm not particularly fussed.

Anyway, I'm otherwise really quite close to opening this tournament for entries! What could possibly go wrong?

Are we allowed to change the armor?

In Stock, the armor used on the robot, DSA (Double Strength Aluminum, enabled by not selecting an armor type), is both the strongest and nearly the lightest in the entire game. I mean, you can, but you don't want to.

I've finished my bot The spinner from WALES! wakkydude do you have yahoo mail? if so I'll be able to send it to you :)

When I open the signups you will be able to send entries to me via the forum's PM feature. This tournament is still in the discussion phase - I have to finalize all of the rules, then run a poll, and only when that poll is complete and more than half of the amount of people I need would enter the tournament, it moves to the Multi-Entry signups phase and only THEN can you submit.

One more thing - given the quite large interest this has gathered, I'm going to bump this up to 16 entrants. I plan on entering myself but can't confirm that until I've got my entry complete, as per the rules.

oh yes. i definitely will enter.

this will be the greatest tournament since the last n00b warz.

so basically build up SFTW up to 800 kg, but no modifying the base bot in any way, and we can reskin it a bit as long as the skin is still recognizably SFTW- like ?

Also you should have a rule about names... the name of the bot should be noticeably SFTW-themed. Like Spinner from the X, X from the west, X from the Y. Or stuff like "The Real BBEANS3 Champion", "My Sawblade spins the wrong way", "It's large...?", "3.14-ston did nothing wrong", etc. etc.

Yeah, your description of the rules is pretty much right. I am allowing you move the control board because it's in a really uncomfortable position that might be hard to build off, and it's really the lest important part of the whole SFTW formula. Batteries have to stay, however, as the use of the Nifty and Pink is noobish enough to be considered a part of the robot's character.

And as a clarification: you can un-wire the original components.

I'm considering the name rule, that sounds quite fun. Also, as this is getting quite a noticeable amount of interest, a tournament size expansion isn't completely off the table.

  • I think I'm about to facepalm as hard as possible as when I went to BFE the robot to add the DSA... it may have had it the whole time. Ah well, you can find the download at https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/LW/wakkydude_Spinner%20from%20the%20west%20(T).bot
  • The arena might change. It depends on a few circumstances (I might be getting a custom one but I'm not going to 100% hold out forever if that ends up not happening) - but watch this space for news on that.
  • Component Freedom should have been banned from the beginning. And now it is. Stock CF is an idea I would like to explore but definitely not for this tournament.

When it comes to worn-out memes, nobody serves them better. As this is my very first tournament, I’m in a prime position to get started with a bang by using the meme only I have the true ability to exploit in this fashion – let’s dig SFTW out of its grave and make it truly great again. First of all, I must point out that this is my first tournament to be hosted so if there's rules I'm missing or times where I am blatantly going against community consensus, let me know.

Stock unrealistic

Heavyweight up to 800.0kg

16 entries, single elimination

1 entry per person, although slow entries near the end of the signup period may see this rise to 2

Best of 3 battles

I will be able to AI but this is the first time I’m ever actually going to be doing it for a tournament like this – if your robot does something unbelievably stupid and unusual that a newbie like me simply cannot comprehend I reserve the right to ask you to do it yourself, and of course you’ll make things easier by sending the bindings anyway ( ;) ;) )

Byes filled by the original SFTW

Robots must be built off the original spinner from the west downloadable at https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/LW/wakkydude_Spinner%20from%20the%20west%20(T).bot, this means:
  • The chassis must be kept the same
  • All the original components (except the control board which I'll allow you to move) must be kept in place
  • None of the original components actually have to be used usefully or be powered, but they must all still remain there
  • You can add anything, of course, and use any kind of weapon you want
  • Armor changes are allowed but reasons you'd want to do so are unknown to me, at least
  • Effectively you can build anything as long as the original SFTW parts remain
  • While obviously, your skin can be done externally, it has to be built on top of the original armour plating that we know all too well and must include some of that original skin underneath. I will be checking.
  • Your robot's name has to be linked, in some way, to SFTW. It doesn't necessarily need to be in the same format, any assorted jokes that are related to it will be fine, but keep a clearly visible link there. I'm going to be fairly lenient on this rule as long as it's in the right spirit

Standard in-game glitch rules. Stacking, eFFe, loading allowed, you name it

No outside modifications at all, including BFE, Thyrus, and text editing.

No use of component freedom in any form.

Skinned components are okay but please actually send them to me in the correct format

No crawlers, this is a jank-free zone

Clusterbots are allowed but both must add up to the 800kg limit. If you can actually successfully pull this off and win a fight with it considering that the base robot is over 200kg, I will be impressed. You’ll win your own award.

Fighting will be on Mr AS' new SFTW Arena:

Havoks that KO a robot or otherwise are responsible for ending a fight will be restarted, but if a robot gets three round-ending havoks across the best of 3, it forfeits the fight

Battles are 3 minutes with timeout matches being decided on points

You will be able to upgrade your robot as many times as you want up to 24 hours after I announce I have accepted the last robot.

I will be entering with this.

You will have one month from the start of signups to get entries in, and you can’t enter until I have accepted your robot.

According to a recent episode of Inside the Bot, Razer is officially done. The team are potentially interested in donating it to the Science Museum.

God dammit, the dream is dead, I can't possibly beat Duck Fury

At the risk of looking like an absolute idiot when it doesn't go to plan: I'm more confident in my LW than many others are here. I think it's actually a fairly solid gut ripper with a good wedge.

57
I think you'll find he's flipped my Ironforge entry upside down. The blades are supposed to be the drive, you see. Truly ashamed.

If you actually look at the match you can see the E-Tek axle facing downwards

Which means the only way Guldenflame could have "edited" your bot would have been to BFE the disc upwards, which I doubt he even know how to do, so I assume it's a AP problem in the .gmf file he had or something stupid like that.

Also, for whats it's worth, your bot would have lost way sooner if the disc wasn't on the top as it would have gotten instant KO'd by the hammers.

Plus I think it's retarded to make Gulden literally redo everything if the results of that match change simply because even though you saw your bot wasn't correct, you didn't say anything at all until that stupid Banter Wars drama came around.

tl;dr Both wakky and Gulden screwed up and are both at fault in a way this whole mess (wakky for seemingly being ok with whatever changes occurred because of Gulden having a screwed up game until the whole Banter Wars thing which then he decided to point out it was different instead of before and Gulden for having a screwed up game)

First of all, let me just cover my own tracks with your top statement and explain the supposed discrepancy: you're probably talking about the extender anchor at the top of the robot, keeping the blade pointing down. http://i.imgur.com/quvC58Z.png

Every mistake I've made is totally valid to point out, and it's why I haven't asked for any serious changes to the tournament as a result, I've just kind of pointed out the error. Being new to the tournament scene, I was very unsure whether to truly call out what seemed like, at the time, a good-faith gesture to make my entry legal. I wasn't aware of the standards until the last drama made me realize so, which is when I kicked into gear and re-evaluated this. And I'm an i d i o t. So: very sorry about that.

But otherwise... that's this mess cleared up. Honestly a strange thing to happen that should be fixed for later, but I guess this is the sort of mess that modded games can create at times. I wish the best for the rest of the tournament and for future ones - the rest of this has run extremely well, I don't mean to discourage you in any way, and I think it's just about time to get it back on track.

Can we get a post in the thread from Kurt confirming rules on component freedom?

Yes. It was really quite naive of me to not realize this was a significant problem until the Banter Wars drama, to be honest. I assumed that I broke IRL and given a seemed sense of the host rushing through the proceedings, had himstep in with an "I'll do whatever I can to make this legal" attitude. Only then did it really come into perspective that it shouldn't have happened. That is entirely my fault, and I understand why others would find it confusing. I can actually provide exact evidence that this has happened if anyone absolutely needs it - but I haven't dug it out up to this point because I'm not treating this as the sort of situation that I need some kind of "justice" over, and I recognise I'm in a less-than-desirable place right now.

I personally wouldn't have entered the robot as the design that eventually fought. If offered the choice of the revised design and withdrawing I would've withdrawn, It just wouldn't have been what I actually designed, and it proved unable to hit anything in its rumble when I at least think it would've been able to put on a better show as its original design.

I am really not sure, due to the time I have come in with this, what the policy is to be on a potential won rematch changing the entries in the tournament - this is something I will likely have to leave up to tournament admins. I do not feel like my robot particularly needs potentially the entire tournament (if I'm lucky enough to win in the first place) re-filmed around it given where it has progressed right now and wouldn't take issue with a ruling that says a rematch isn't binding on the rest of the tournament in this case, but it depends on how the rules go and how this is ultimately ruled. I will leave that out of my hands, if that is at all possible.

I am very sorry to have suddenly realised this was a point worth addressing now - this has been a huge pain and that is on me. I hope you can tell from my tone at least that I'm not particularly... angry over the ordeal or hold any grudges.

edit: I'll leave the proof here in case anyone else claims otherwise in the future: the only PM I sent to him (http://i.imgur.com/uCy9d3u.png) featured a bot exchange link to the bot (http://i.imgur.com/KHUmMF1.png), which is my only submission on the DSL heavyweight bot exchange, at https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/DSL_HW/wakkydude_Sun%20Ray.bot. You can inspect it for youself.
