Agree with Noodle, we need an RA3!

Shall we contact the guys who made it and negotiate an RA3 cos mods and upgrades onto RA2 is one thing, but wiping the RA2 slate and making a 3rd completely from scratch is another, to make the 3rd we'd have to be 100% commited to the project.

Just my say on the matter
Not going to happen, sorry.

They apparently still get monies from it

Hell we can all put in and buy the thing, they will probably make more money then what they have in the last year "selling" it.

66% of the RA2 playing members come for DSL anyway....
Yeah, I know, the thing about licenses for things like the havok engine is a problem though, I think the'd have to remove parts like that from the coding even if they did give us all their code for RA2.

I used Chicken motors to power the discs, because I couldn't get any of the big motors to fit.  But you could probably pull it off with Piglets if you don't mind having an underpowered weapon.
Well i just used flat motors, how did you get the disks at that angle and that far down though? Mine are too far up ATM because I'm putting them on baseplate anchors.

Yeah, that would be cool, completely impossible if you were making a proper up to date game though.

Right, 13 blacks done, I used flat motors though, i'm assuming they're okay otherwise the rep would be impossible really.
Are we allowed to skin components though, a 13 black rep would look much better with the skinned disks (assuming I can do it ofcourse).

Yeah as I said then, but i'm not buying that BS about still getting money from it.

wouldn't it be possible for the one's who now own the rights and such for the game to just pass it on? i mean, giving the right of the game and the source code to people here like Acams  and Serge. they aren't going to do anything with this game, and surely they also don't care about it, so why not pass it on to someone who does care?
Hmmm, good point, although that will still probably cost them a little bit (community fund perhaps?), asweell as possible legal palavor.
Besides, the source code would be of very limited use as the game would need a new engine to be even slightly up to date.

Sparkey, it was ontopic in the other thread, I don't see the need for another thread.

I still think all the major modders could combine there skills and make a spiritual succsessor.
Yes, they probably could.
It's their choice whether they want to partake in such a project, but yeah, they'd certainly have the community behind them to complete it.

Edit:
I've been working on a 3d engine adequate for our goal for some time now. More of a long-term project though.
Oh really, that's very cool.
Like I said, if you wanted to make it more open the rest of the community would probably be able to help someway or another.

I just say if Ra2 dies out we should keep the forum for all things building games, so we still have a comunity.
I get what you mean, it's a good community here, even in the short amount of time i've been here i can tell that's obvious, but I don't think RA2 is going to "die out" for some while yet.

I enjoyed it, at least.

Does that make me the only one?  :approve:
Yeah. I tried playing it again about, well just before I joined here actually.
It wasn't too bad early on where most of the bots sucked and you couldn't accidentaly make a bot too fast, but the judges decissions were always terrible.
I lost one of them, gave up and went off xbox live (I was giving some of my mates a commentary on what the game was like).
I then searched for RW videos because I was feeling nostalgic and accidently clicked on one of resseti's videos instead....

While not really more useful to the community,

*looks at Enigma's last 10 posts*

*looks at Sparkey's last 10 posts*

well thats interesting, I think the percentage of useful posts out of that sample of 10 is greater for Sparkey....
Dun DUN DUNNNN!
Erm actually, I think enigma's a new type of troll very rarely seen in the wild of the internet.
This type of troll knows it is trollin and assumes the form of the most trollish behaviours on the forum where it resides.

Know this type of troll is known to be slow to evolve, but if we let it evolve fully, we could have a troll on our hands which has the racism of ACAMS, the spelling mistakes of sparkey, the drama queen nature of a few people on here and the general stupdity of avalanche all rolled into one!

They definitely got the bit right when WBC's wheel touches the arena wall...

^ winner ^
Huh?
Anyway, I hated that game, the controls were the worst i've ever seen (the game punished you for having anything above a slow drive motor) and  the "botlab" was horendous.
I always wanted to find a better alternative and had looked many times over the years, infact it's a wonder I didn't find RA2 sooner TBH

Even if it is just a rehashed fallout 3 I wouldn't care.
Fallout 3 is along side bioshock 1 as the best game to come out since the dreamcast died IMO.

"AI parts are not allowed, except for their burst/weapon motors"
By that do you mean that the judge burst motor and whatnot are allowed?

Also, although I'm not sure if I'd enter it if I could, are you allowed different versions of a bot that competed in extreme like a wild thing rep that was the lifter design form series 4 rather than the one with the flywheel thingy on the front (used in series 5 IIRC)

Oh, also what ever I enter this time WILL be skinned better, I swear  :laughing

I have a big soft spot for disturbed though, even though asylum was dissapointing  :frown:

In other news, I broke an old cap on my tooth today while eating some paper...
