DSL TC Showcases / Re: DSC's IRL DSL showcase

The images were taken from the botlab, where everything jiggles about when a bot is stationary. So the leading edge is on the ground level, and also hinged so it stays there.

Another revamp of an old bot. The weapon is more effective with the plow holding things in place, and there's now an actual working srimech.

Double post, but for those of you who may want to do something similar, 090901 kindly provided a solution/workaround

"if you change the .bmp or .tga name to something with the same number of characters you dont have to decomp the .gmf to edit,  so then for things like extenders you can open and replace the name all at once"

For example, renaming "ti.bmp" to "99.bmp" within the .gmf file would work, whereas "999.bmp" would not, due to the extra character.

General Support / Batch Compile/Decompile of GMFs

As the title says, is there any way to batch compile/decompile GMFs? I don't believe either Serge's or Dummy's programs have that function, so this would extend to .bat files, or anything that could automate the process a little.

(For background as to why, plans for a skinpack for DSL at it's most basic, would require having to decompile 70 components (extenders), and compiling at least 560-1120 (colour variants) back.)

DSC accepted.
DSC's second bot rejected. Too fat.
The shame, the shame of it all.

I prefer how it is like that

I do too, but it can't self-right if flipped onto it's back in a certain way. And I know if I leave it, it's almost certain to happen in a fight and cause it's demise.

There are changes being made to it already. Third horn is gone because it prevented self-righting. I may take off the flipper 'support' too (it's a small medium axle extension), as in battles that has broken off and then spazzed around the arena on it's own, which is always a comforting sight. And it's getting a wedge for Rob's tourney, so I'll post the update shortly.

Also making an 'interesting' version of Carbon Copy, it will probably get a name change to Carbonize, as Carbon Copy is a bit meh.

It has three horns because it... mootated. :dumb) (also some bull****about being able to self-right.)
Panels are reskinned titanium gubbins. Also probably doesn't get under people because damned if I know if there are any acceptable IRL wedges?

If they're still on the table, i'll take up the challenge for all three of Rob's challenges.

The Dynasty is complete. Young Lance-a-Frog (YLAF), Sir Lance-a-Frog (SLAF) and King Lance-a-Frog (KLAF).

YLAF is a simple face/HS spinner. Flags are to aid self-righting, but it can sometimes manage without them. All the robots now have at least 2 black batteries, after discovering the changes.

An ideal debut for these robots will be in Rob Collins' tournament currently in discussion. However, I also wouldn't mind a few challenges to test their competitiveness, or lack thereof.

HW version of Sir Lance-a-Frog, it has ascended and taken the throne. Weapon motor is the 6-MAG motor, so the 4 large Typhoon teeth pack quite a punch. With the addition of the lance and Shield, KLAF is also invertible, which fixes a few issues with SLAF.

Bonus info: King was made from the chassis of Hellfrog, which fought in the first Battlebots tournament. I'm hoping this bot is more successful if it ever fights.

Final question: are skirts still considered against the spirit of IRL rules?

Thank you very much RedAce for hosting this.

Blimey, didn't realise both had still been running. Guess I have a lot of videos to catch up on. :)

I'm sorry about you missing the deadline, hah. There's always another opportunity for... Glory... in the future  ;)

Love the upgraded Frog, and with Frog in the semi-finals of another certain tournament, I'd say that it's done fine in its career

The deadline thing was my fault. I'd seen you mention to someone else that the signups were closed, and the production done for the video, so I guessed there was no point in asking the same question.

But is Frog fighting in another tournament? Did someone else submit him?

A major reworking of Carbon Copy, which last fought in Battlebots (can't remember which seasons). All extender work has been replaced, not fantastic by any means but done to add armour to the sides, which is something I felt was lacking. Weapon now has 8 small Typhoon teeth instead of the Hypno teeth, and is angled and slightly raised in order to get at bots better. No wedges are present, if IRL rules allowed I'd absolutely fit one. Can barely run inverted, which is what the Lightning spike on the disc is for. I couldn't find anything more suitable that gave me the height needed that also looked the part.

Final interesting point, I missed the deadline for the Rumble in 'RNP: The 2nd Chance' by a few hours, otherwise I would have sent CC2016 to Rob without hesitation.

'Upgraded' the lance to a Samurai Sword, the motor and added a Lightning spike, all to aid self-righting, which was SLaF's weakness IMO. The weapon has been 'upgraded' to a disc with 4 smaller Typhoon teeth, replacing the DSL beater bar. Drive motors have been downgraded to normal NPCs in the pursuit of better control.

First real attempts to do anything in DSL 2.2 involve older bots. Sir Lance-a-Frog was the only real successful robot I've had, and I'm not yet confident enough to remake a SHW version of Carbon Copy yet. Seems like there'll be less opportunity to enter them in tournaments too.

That said, there's enough going on here to have made me want to come back. So hopefully I can stay around for a while.

Again, I'd be willing to participate in the Heavyweight fight, but I will wait if someone else wants to first. It's been 2 years since I was last active, so i'm just eager to see something of mine fight again.

how do I use a storm piston like you did in 4 stegs down?

I like making strong flippers so the Idea of using a Pneumatic system sounds promising and the only method I have found at the higher weights is multiple beta burst motors

The Storm piston is part of the front-hinged burst motor. It's visually part of the model, but doesn't work on that principle.

Centurion from S3 is a visually interesting design that would work.

I also echo later-series Killerhurtz.

And to be a bit cheeky, there's a bunch of IRL designs from this forum that would be great to see with custom parts to reflect how they're supposed to look. I realise there is probably almost no chance of this occurring since the change to being an Official RW mod, but I'm just putting the idea out there..
