Yep, you've probably noticed I haven't been around here lately, and the reason is that I've lost interest in RA2. I would have time to finish DSL3 if I felt like it, but I don't. I just don't have the motivation. So, sorry guys. So with that, I will leave GTM. I just thought I would let you guys all know what's happening, which is nothing. As for all the DSL3 stuff I have done so far, I have no plans to upload it. It's kind of a mess and I don't feel like sorting through everything and getting it organized. Yep, looks like DSL3 has gone the way of Backlash. Well, no big deal. You guys seem pretty happy with DSL2. Goodbye. I am dead serious. Really, this is no joke. Surely not. Maybe this year is an exception. Okay, okay, it's a joke. You got me.

Well... there will still be skirts in DSL3, but they will be thicker so you can't use them as wedges. Your controls also won't be reversed on top of other bots so it should be easier to escape, in theory.

What are those wheels on the CF Extender test bot?
The Shish-kabot wheels I think...
Yep, they're called Colson wheels and they come in 3 different sizes. The ones pictured are the large ones; Shish-kabot uses the small ones.

VertSpinner.py does the same thing as Drum.
So what's a good trolldance number for a drum? And do I need anything other than vertspinner.py cuz I can't find the trolldance script in there.
The trolldance script is in with the weapon activation. if enemy is not None and range < self.spin_range and self.weapons and abs(list(plus.getDirection(self.GetID(),0))[1]) < self.troll and not self.IsUpsideDown(): self.Input("Spin", 0, 100) else: self.Input("Spin", 0, 0)
Basically it adds another condition that the y-coordinate of the bot's heading must be less than a certain value (self.troll) before the weapon spins normally. I used a value of 0.7, but I've only AI'd one bot that needed this feature.

I'M BAAAAAAAACK and I have new stuff. Never really intended to be gone from GTM for... what was it, a month? Two? It just sort of happened. But I haven't been idle in that time. Here's what's new: - Wheels are 100% done. Rebalanced, more realistically weighted, all have extra attach points on the outside face (except shiny hub), and driving controls are no longer reversed when driving on top of bots or obstacles in the test garage. - This is fixed: - Meet the new carbon fiber extender. It now has an attachment point in the middle, because that's just insanely useful. It also has attachment points on all four sides so you don't have to rotate it 90 degrees when it attaches the wrong way because that's just insanely annoying. And it's a tube now instead of a 90 degree angle because this is a more realistic shape, plus it just plain looks better. You have to admit it looked really awkward when you put weapons on the old CF extenders. In addition to all that obvious stuff, there's also some behind the scenes tweaks. The end attachment points are now the same distance from the ends (this distance is 5 cm) so it doesn't matter which attachment points you use. All extenders are now EXACTLY the length they say they are, so for example, 4 20cm extenders won't be slightly longer than 1 80cm extender. And, the skin is no longer stretched on the longer versions. ^ That is actually a bunch of different extender lengths attached together, yet the skin stays consistent and loops nicely. - And finally: How many times have you wished for one of these? No more finagling with ugly sideways extenders--the 10cm extender is now available for those times when you just need a really short extender. The aluminum, titanium, and steel extenders will be the same as this, except they'll be square because that is a more common shape in real robots. Polycarbonate extenders are being ditched, because frankly, they don't exist in real life and they look kinda ugly to boot. If you use polycarbonate IRL it's in a sheet, not a rod. Aluminum will be the new 2kg/20cm extender, titanium will be 3kg/20cm, and steel will stay 5kg/20cm.

(Image removed from quote.)
wat It looks like you just deleted the bottom T connector but somehow kept the drive in the same place. I can't figure out how it's attached now. Also, the iron spike is gone but nothing is added in its place? The goal of saving weight is usually to do something with it... The cambered wheels are a nice touch though. Should effectively distinguish it from Le\/eL if you get a plow on it.

Interesting take on the ASD/Bumblebee design. It may be slower but I imagine a Redbird-powered crawler would be more controllable. On the poker, you should angle the razors upwards so A) they don't touch the ground, and B) so spinners can't reach over them and hit your chassis.

Concussion is the component damage multiplier. A high-concussion weapon tends to make more damage to the components than to the chassis, and therefore is good for defense and destroying the opponent's weapon and components. Sledgehammers are pure concussion weapons.
Piercing is the chassis damage multiplier. A high-piercing weapon tends to make more damage to the chassis overall, and therefore is better for directly attacking the enemy's chassis. They tend to lose to concussion weapons however. Vlad spikes are pure piercing weapons.
Ahem: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,1215.msg28187.html#msg28187 Also, the weapons section may be too much information all at once. I certainly didn't read all the weapon descriptions. Maybe just focus on the popular weapons that are used most.

bumble bee loads just fine for me, longbow however......
Oh that's probably because Longbow has one of Mad's smart zones. It's one of the 'beam' smart zones that weren't included in an earlier release, so if you do already have Mad's smart zones you need to redownload the newer version. I forgot that might be an issue... but do I really want to go through and remove smart zones from all my bots? No. Easier if you just download Mad's zones. There might be other bots with Mad's smart zones too.

OK guys, I said I would do it, and there seemed to be considerable interest, so here it is: Download ALL the bots! ^ That's my entire stock Robot Designs folder, minus any bots that weren't built by me or FB and any bots with custom parts. The bots date back to 2003 when we first got the game, up to now. At least half of them were never showcased so there's plenty of old content to poke through. The .bot files all conveniently start with "CB_" or "FB_" depending on who built it, so they don't get mixed up with your own bots. Except for Lots OOOOOOOO wheels which was built by FB's friend. ...Looking back, I kinda miss building bots like Evil Weevil V and Gigawhirl II and Double Edge. I had kind of an IRL style before I found the forums.
Uhh, do any of these bots use custom components? Bumblebee (wedge thing) accidentally my game.
I took out all the bots I know have custom components. Bumblebee should be stock, unless it was modified with custom parts at some later time. I'll have to check once I get access to RA2 again. In case you were wondering, Bumblebee is a harmless-looking wedge with hidden weapons (a popup spike and a flamethrower) that FB made before either of us had ever seen a popup. It's sort of like a proto-popup.

I had kind of an IRL style before I found the forums.
You did for a spell afterwards too. I have a quote of you in your showcase saying you preferred to keep your bots realistic, which is why you didnt build HS
...Huh, I could swear I didn't build HS because there was no way to make them original. Maybe it was both. I have a lot of HS now, though.

See here's the problem. Try fighting, say, Storm 2 like you already mentioned. Try to retreat, hold position, attack a potential weakness like the sides or back, circle the opponent, feint a charge or in any other way use actual tactics. It's not easy, and you're a skilled human driver! Imagine getting the AI to do that and you see why no one has done it. Now try fighting a spinner like Grog. Try using any of those tactics. It's not just hard, it doesn't work at all--the only way to beat Grog is by charging in full throttle shouting "LEEEROOOOOOY JENKINS" at the top of your lungs. But how is the AI going to know that? There's no way for the AI to tell what type of bot it's fighting. Maybe, with a lot of dedication, you can AI something that successfully outmaneuvers opponents, but it's going to be worthless against spinners. Hence the simple box rush strategy: simple, and close to what humans do anyway against some bots.

I thought about this a while ago, but I really don't have any suitable screen recording software, guess I should buy FRAPS...
there is a free copy of fraps in my sig
Not anymore there's not. Don't distribute pirated software on here. (Except RA2 which is close to abandonware.) Seriously, FRAPS is like $20, just buy it. Well worth the money IMO.

If it works with burst pistons then stick with that... getting the servo piston synchronized with the flippers would be horrendous.

stop trying to be overly dramatic for gods sake, it was a website not a freaking ghost town in the nevada desert
Actually now that Team 9 mentions it, that is a very accurate description of what browsing the old forum archives is like. You can see the general structure and some of the more popular threads, even a few rare artifacts (pictures), but most of the details are obliterated. Most of the people on those old forums are no longer around, too, which makes it feel even more like a ghost town.

Whoa, I didn't know that imageshack account still existed. I tried to access it a long time ago and couldn't. Most of the images I had on there are gone, though.

I like the team but with the mw would ther be a way of getting metal hinge wedges rather than a skirt hinge ? skirt hinge wedges will get destroyed most of the time unless you luck out and get a match full of lightweights
Skirt hinge wedges are nearly as good, if not exactly as good as metal hinge wedges IMO. The only reason skirt hinge wedges seem bad is because it's tempting to put skirts on all three attach points, which DOES make them bad. But if you only put wedges on the middle attach point it's fine. Viserion actually has pretty good wedges and can get under a lot of metal hinge bots. I'd rather not scrounge up 12 kg to get metal hinges since I'm already strapped for weight. Also yes, I needed to give every bot at least one flamethrower. They are named after dragons, after all.

2 HPZ drive MW's are not very hard to control. Try a 4WD HPZ MW rammer. The popup looks good, kind of like an improved I Will Get Shredded, but it does need HPZ's. Also, it looks like the wedge might be attached upside-down. They work much better with the flat side on the ground.
