So like, is everyone on this forum from the UK now? There's like 8 pages of Robot Wars chatter -- am I even allowed to talk about BattleBots? Frenzy always disappointed me. To me it felt like it had the potential to be a more more formidable robot than it ended up being. It seemed like its weapon was never just strong enough to do much of anything except for the battle it had with Panic Attack (and that was only because of an electrical failure that left Panic Attack as an easy target). Mauler was also a letdown of a robot. Apparently, prior to BattleBots' inaugural TV season the robot was much more dangerous and destructive (being disqualified from Robot Wars, etc). It made a great showing in season one even though it had an admittedly easy win over Nightmare but after that point Mauler just sank time and time again. There are a few others, but my shift is ending so I'll come back to this later. :P

Given that the still-boxed toys aren't yellowed and everything appears to be in pretty good condition I'd say it's not a bad deal.

I hope they eventually come back to Texas, that would be nice.
Best bets from Texas are Dragon Con in Atlanta or the southern California events, neither of which are exactly close.
Bummer. I can afford to travel now (financially), but I ironically can't afford to do so when it comes to using up my actual time-off hours from work.

Well Scrap Daddy LW only beat Green Dragon because a wheel fell off, and the somewhat impressive damage done to MOE was mainly because they decided to enter only the fiberglass chassis, so the blade was knocking around a thin fiberglass box more than an actual 220lb robot. they were still half decent robots, just saying their prowess wasn't as impressive as it seems.
I should phrase that better: When compared to other lower-tier robots, Scrap Daddy was not the worst in the league. They were just easier to make fun of because in their televised events they were disproportionally outmatched.

Are event registrations on the rise? I've been sitting on my ass for a decade since the last event I've been to because there aren't any in Texas anymore (and I'm not about to blow my ETO to go travel to the east coast for an event).

You Restored robot combat 3%. -Not trying to sound rude, I posted all of Battlebots Season 2.0 and got a big reaction too, I know how cool this feels- And Congrats. I never got to see the Intreverter Deb Bot Whyatica Jav Man heat, so that was cool.
And my old website was the first ever on the Internet to post videos of BattleBots in the first place, but you tend to be a bit more modest about things when you do it for the betterment of the robot combat community. Excellent post, OP. Do you happen to have Robotica seasons 1 or 3? I think I have all of #2 taped and I only have the latter half of #3 because if I remember right, TLC dumped the entire series into a one-day marathon at short notice and I missed it. I intend to write about Robotica someday so having a complete collection would be neat.

What about Tus-ami?
I think it's funny that: A) Nobody fixed this in post B) Nobody who was there recording the VO in post said "maybe this isn't right" C) It was never fixed in post for rebroadcasts in any market whatsoever Also I'm not surprised that robots with long names had them butchered or truncated. I remember this happening to Subject to Change Without Reason, Buddy Lee Don't Play in the Street, and all of the Scrap Daddy robots with the weightclass/number names. The lesson here is that you don't give your robot a stupid-ass name.

It was all added in post. Scrap Daddy's robots were crap, but they were relatively decent designs. They sank easily and took a beating in their televised events (Ziggo destroyed the LW one and I think the middleweight lost 45-0 in its fight) so it was an easy "in" to make it appear like the robots were underdogs or disliked in the event. The heavyweight Scrap Daddy lost to Frenzy because its weapon fell off and I believe the SHW version was pitted against one of Todd Mendenhall's robots and all that guy does is build things with stupid amounts of torque (there was a brief shot in the season two opener episode of the SHW Scrap Daddy being slammed into the wall and flipped over).
The Scrap Daddy team does not demonstrate an adverse reaction when they're announced in the rumbles or fights because they were not reacting to booing, they were reacting to cheering... albeit likely quieter/shorter cheering. In the heavyweight rumble Scrap Daddy's saw blade was able to tear off parts of MOE's side panels and such; the bots weren't completely crap. Both the lightweight and middleweight Scrap Daddy robots from season two won one fight each, placing them in the TV brackets. You might also recall Scrap Daddy's fight with Wedge of Doom in the fifth season where he clearly should have won but still lost because the producers had spent such a long time (4 seasons by that point) painting their creations as trash.

Good to see a fellow Christorian here
I'm familiar with CWC mostly through Encyclopedia Dramatica. I wrote an article last year about some terrible (pornographic) artwork of his, but other than that it's just kind of a passing familiarity. Although I do derive my stage name from a Chris quote. So I guess I have that strike against me. XD

You spelled it wrong.
Unless it's a Euro spelling of it, like "apologise".

Just for you guys who were wondering what became of my deal with RoboGames (since the event is/was this weekend) I left my position with them a week ago. I was unhappy with how they chose to handle a lot of things and figured ending our professional relationship would be the best course of action. So, no I was not at RoboGames and I am not/no longer writing for them.

Hate to burst your bubble, but there are no RFL-sanctioned events in or anywhere near Texas.
It's the reason I stopped pursuing the sport.

A lot of my favorite fights come from BattleBots, but I'd have to really go back and watch old Robot Wars episodes (US and UK) and Robotica get get a refresher. I also didn't follow independent events too well. Basically, the fights I mentioned in my article about "most one sided BattleBots fights" are among my favorites: http://www.gatoraids.com/2012/02/most-one-sided-fights-in-battlebots/
