Well they're one of those people sueing youtube which means they're already dead to me. Doesn't help that one of their songs sounds like a raw recording with mic cracking sounds in them. At least the radio edit had that stuff fixed.

(Image removed from quote.)
I always knew you were a little girl Naryar
...that's not the point but ok
Well, I thought since this thread is more or less serious(and seeing how negative stuff wasn't really well seen in the RA3 thread in the beginning) I thought I'd give a serious answer to this instead of being like "lol RA3 sux", so that it's clear why it's like that and so that new members can quickly see what's wrong. Also nice one Hi5er :P

This tournament was DSL 2.1 SnS only.. hence the tacky pun. :)
Clash Cubes 1 (and to an extent CC2) was dominated by Somebody's (the user) SnS hybrid. This tournament was originally a celebration of the 5 year anniversary of Clash Cubes 1 (which is now 6.5)
I mean tiny tiny chassis like this aren't very good for popups or rammers really, but are well suited to SnS and VS and sometimes HS too.
Funny enough CC3 was won by a front hinge flipper and CC4 was won by a pop-up
Clash cubes concept was always designed to promote external construction given a tiny cube is the only real efficient shape. "Out of the box thinking" if you want some more puns :P
Thought so, also only later realized that Clash Cubes is about having that small cube chassis(thought everyone just did that to save weight for weapons). Personally I like building stuff like that because it offers a completely different Robot fighting game which goes more into the direction that I would imagine(fight until you break a bot's Control Board or Immobilize them by destroying the Batteries instead of reducing the chassis hp to 0). Front Hinged Flipper winning? interesting, thought that design wouldn't allow for OOTA's(which is how flippers will win the most time) unless you build it Firestorm like. The chassis isn't exactly built for a popup but that doesn't mean one can't add the wedge shape. Also 400th post.

Gravatic Reversal 5's smartzone was a bit too high causing it to lose weapons in the first battle, which made that one a bit boring as it had a difficult time hitting the small chassis. Wasn't sure what happened when it was spinning like that in Round1, but I've seen that before with one of my AI's which didn't have all required parameters.
As for the spinout in round 2, it really looks like it had problems with ground clearance and the wheels weren't touching the ground(was there something under the bot or did the wheels just glitch? guessing the second. You can see that the wheels are spinning but nothing's moving when it's getting counted out.

If we only take the bots we've seen in the RW reboot into account, then definitely. But there are good bots out there(sadly many of them just aren't updated to today's standards yet)
How would you rate Carbide against Battlebots entries?
It was good and like Cobalt can be a good bot but I find it early to judge given the mechanical failures and rushed time they had.

Could you upload it? Think this happens when you deleted a old team somewhere in the middle and that now creates an empty space.
Sure, here you go -
https://gametechmods.com/uploads/files/2980Teams2.zip
I've also included a backup file and an edit file - these are both just .txt files, which are earlier versions of the teams.txt.
First of all, why is this thing so long, there's so many empty lines in this. The file only has text until line 438, everything until 6009017 is empty. I'd try to remove that first and see what happens then.
Yeah, I tried that, the game just makes a million more empty lines itself after they're all deleted. I tried deleting all the lines, as evidenced by the edit file, but it didn't work.
Oh, wasn't sure since you said the edit is a earlier version, let me check this further. One thing I quickly noticed is that the last team doesn't seem to have bots and the entry seems to be unfinished. Maybe removing that and removing the number 8 on top of the file(as that's there for team number 9) helps. Otherwise I'd try to get a umodded teams.txt from a fresh copy of RA2 and try to add stuff to it to see what works and what breaks it.

Looks siiiiick! Nicely done!
Doublewheels don't really do anything, it's just a waste. Get rid of the double wheels, and then blow the rest of the weight on armour.
They don't add any more grip? Oh well they do add armor at least.

Tried messing around with turn and turnspeed(which made it worse), turn didn't seem to help but what's odd is that if my bot starts in the player 1 spawn of the combat arena it drives in a straight line, player2's start point however does that shuffling. Also what about the moving backwards straight/always face the AI and best place to get the most updated AI files?

Did you patch 2.1 to 2.2 or directly DL 2.2? From what I've heard Razors and Irons are almost useless now, just get them on a similar level or maybe with just a little less damage so people will use them once in a while/for their non normal use. Guess making it 1.5 would be good then. Right, the E-Teks exist(having something like that as drive motor would be interesting through), but what about drums?
The NPC attachment point is legacy from 2.1 so Click didn't change it.
Oh I see, thought that it would create a problem while updating it. Maybe two points could be added to each?
For drums, that's where the unbelted variants of the Perm motors would come in. Just have them directly power your drum, rather than a belt.
Nah perms are super bulky. If I wanted to build a Minotaur-lite bot it'd be basically impossible without making it weirdly big and cumbersome.
Yeah, that's why I was thinking about Ztek like motors because Perms are still rather big. What about E-Teks? IDK if Click is OK with me posting these or not, but he hasn't been on since April, and DSL 2.2 has been out for a few months, so... yeah.
He can also just yoink the file off the server if the DSL balancing details are the RA2 equivalent of KFC's 11 herbs and spices, but I think it's a safe bet that this isn't the case.
Thanks for the info, it's always good to see how stuff works behind the scenes. Still wonder how Mecha and Frenzy could get so OP(unless those aren't based on that formula which is most likely the case). Now if Office Starter only didn't break... oh well there's still Kingsoft and Libre Office. As for irons/razors, ok if you people say so. It's just that I haven't seen them used anywhere and making them too situational doesn't seem like a great thing, then again better than having them everywhere. I did remember two things I wanted to see, for one stronger axles. Dunno how IF does it(apparenlty they're thicker?) but DSL's axle load themselves without you needing to do anything.(could a invisible mesh that has the biger width fix this?) Another thing would be adding lines to the height slider, showing what height you'd need for certain components to fit, as well as 1/2 and 1/4 grid parts on the chassis creation. Oh, minor thing but Mad's Smart Zones could be reduced to be 0 kg as well as the game including antiballasts?

Great thanks for all the tips guys. Ive only been playing the standard cups with the ais and yes they are stupid as **** i know but in 4 bot fights i did get pancaked a few times haha.
Ill update her tomorrow so in the meantime keep going! thanks in advance ow and if somebody would like to, id like to test her out tomorrow against a real player. if anybody is up for it, would be my first match ^^
Online multiplayer is sadly a bit hard to get working, people say that it desyncs rather often and bots with many parts don't work well, however as far as I understand people have only been using hamachi and not portforwarded stuff before(would love to test that with some members, Thrack, Hi5er, Redace ? anyone up for that?) so dunno how that works but I don't expect it to be perfect. The way tournaments are done is that your bot gets AI'd(so it's basically part of a AI team and the AI controls it, don't worry we have better AI files than the stock ones so they won't drive stupid as long as you set them up right :P) and then fights another AI'd bot. If you want harder AI bots then check out the Starcore packs. They're known for having some of the hardest bots, so keep in mind that those are built with the stock building glitches in mind and to be competitive for tournaments(instead of the stock ai which was more built how the game devs intended stuff to be and can range from bad to somewhat decent) There isn't really a good middle ground between stock ai and Starcore, but the first few packs are rather outdated by today's standard so they aren't as difficult as the new V4(a beta of that can be found in the downloads section, needs to be patched over V3)

that looks vile but doesn't seem like a practical change. if i change the front wedge setup to extenders i'll probably just waste more weight/have much too fragile a setup
I'll play around with the back though to see what I can get out of it.
also at this point I don't think there is any point digging up more weight except for chassis armour. adding any more mechavore disks is basically impossible/stupid
Mechavore disks are the new Razors at this point, can't have enough of them :P

Originally I did patch, but it glitched often, so I just direct downloaded, and ported over whatever files I needed from my DSL 2.1 save. Apart from a few issues with my teams.txt files, it's been fine.
They're not useless at all, you just need to pick your weapons wisely rather than the old "spam razors/irons" strategy.
For drums, that's where the unbelted variants of the Perm motors would come in. Just have them directly power your drum, rather than a belt.
Having two AP's would just mean that people would toggle between whichever AP is best for the situation. I think Click should do it similar to how he fixed the Metal Hinge problem, where there's two variants of the metal hinge - one which goes under the old name, which all DSL 2.1/2.2 bots would use, but would be hidden from normal use, and then another, newer one, with updated AP's.
Yeah, that would be the alternative.(either that or writing a script to update the bots, but that's simpler). I'm surprised that someone actually liked the DSL lite idea.

How people create all these amazing wacky things I will never know.
I've got a few other things to show off that are quite a bit more complex than this - really, it's just a matter of spamming as many Mechavore discs or Frenzy Hammers as you can. I'm suprised somebody hasn't made a Frenzy Hammer SNS yet.
Cause nearly everything bans SnS these days
SNS are sometimes allowed but it's rather rare. I'm surprised that Mecha Discs and Frenzy Ham's aren't banned yet.

For me, the gauntlet map works fine.
Buffing razors/irons would just encourage people to go back to their convieniences, rather than experiment with new weapon types. I say, keep 'em nerfed.
Aye, DSL 2.2 Lite would be a great thing.
Steel's only 2x stronger than Titanium, but also 2x heavier. From what I've experienced, Titanium will protect your bot sufficiently 90% of time, and Steel's simply not worth the weight increase. Steel becomes more feasible when it comes to HW's, but even then Titanium is the better metal to use if weight restrictions are a worry.
I agree with your points on the extenders, as well as your points about the NPC's.
I'm hesitant to suggest adding more motors, as I don't want one motor to be blatantly unusable, or for a pre-existing motor to already to a better job - copals and E-tek's inhabit that realm, and it's a dark place.

As the AI only attacks head on, having moving weapons on the rear is considered a waste of weight. At most consider a static spike, but know that LWs can't afford to waste any weight.
Size has no effect on pushing power, its all in the motors. A larger chassis by base-plate size does increase HP, but the added weight is often not worth it.
You ninja'd me on that one while I updated my post. They do have uses in rumbles but most matches are 1vs1 in tournaments.

Oh hey, so you meant that Stinger. Wasn't sure if you meant the one used in Battlebots or the Robot Wars one. What armor does this have? In case you don't know, in early stages the game used to have armors that had double the HP of what the current ones have. All AI bots use such armor and if you don't touch the armor tab you get double stenght aluminium(DSA) which is stronger than steel and weights just as much as normal aluminum. People usually only use Shiny Hub Wheels(they're the lightest) and rubber wheels(give you zero ground clearance with HP motors), if you have leftover weight or need them for strange designs, then feel free to use the other wheels. Not sure how much use that weapon on the back has, think it would be better to just make one weapon and place a T connector on it, together with 20 cm extenders you should be able to put 4 razors on there, now that will really pack a punch. In case you wonder how to attach them, here's a little help:
RR RR EXTEX P R=Razor EX=20cm Extender rotated to have the attachment points forward T=T connector P=Piston.
Like already mentioned by other users, you can make the chassis smaller which should allow you to put on smaller wheels and more weapons. The battery should be more than enough(given that it's only needed for the drive), might want to downgrade that. Not sure how much air that Co2 canister gives but once you reach about half your weapons will start to lose power(still think it's enough for a LW). Maybe you can get enough weight to even increase the drive motors to normal Zteks. Try to keep them in this wide position like now, because more distance means better turning(where it's the opposite in real life), so you probably want to have a chassis that's T shaped(just like the Stock AI Stinger, except the other way around). As for back weapons, most matches in Robot Arena 2 are 1vs1 and the AI'd robots(you will probably learn how to AI bots later) only attack front on front and don't drive to the back of a bot, that's why people usually only put stuff on the front. Imagine it like those anti spinner wedges you've seen in Battlebots, Front and a bit of side.

Oh so people are finally starting with 2.3 threads? to be honest I'm quite surprised that Click hasn't released a 2.2.1 patch to fix things such as the broken arenas(think the Gauntlet map still crashes for me all the time) as well as buffing Razors/Irons and nerfing Mechavore Discs/Frenzy Hammers. Personally I think that those should have the same stats of what an extender of the same lenght+weapon would have, so they're more skins than anything else. I'm not a fan of seeing AI parts everywhere, better to get robot neutral parts but having stuff like Beta's hammer arm and hammer attachment would be good. A thing I'd love to have is a lite version of DSL where the AI replica parts aren't included, half of them don't seem to be used unless you use the replicas in the Design folders or ai them while the other half is used for the bots in the AI teams(which I almost never fight against) Isn't steel like super strong through? But yeah that's needed as well as a armor that weighs 10kg. Also maybe make all those armors separate instead of sub categories(IF already has that for a few) so the game remembers your selection, not just that you selected plastic before. Having more than 45 degree edges(together with making the steel ones heavier but have more hp) would be nice. 45 degree also seems to be a little more than that and it would be nice if they were shaped a bit differently to connect better: Instead of: \ \ _\ do this: \ \ _| NPC's also need a fix with the attachment points: As for motors, having something like the Redbird/Ztek Stock ones for all weightclasses would be really nice.
