There will be some bot updates in DSL, never fear.  2 so far.

What bots specifically would you like to see updated?

Edit: 3.

Well I know FB isn't going to update the Battlebox anytime soon... those screw hazards are too complicated to make with grape crates (his arena building blocks).  Plus he's already working on another, bigger arena project... something that's never been done before, going to be very cool and very fun... you'll just have to wait to see it.  If the Battlebox is going to get updated it would be goose or ACAMS that did it and I don't know if they're planning to.

The Ocean Platform was made by FB btw.  Not me.  He does all the arenas and I do all the replicas and parts.

Here it is!  Today's sneak peek is of a new arena to be included, the Ocean Platform.  One of Firebeetle's old projects that was pretty much abandoned, but was revived for DSL.  The arena is self-explanatory: a raised platform above an ocean.  If you fall in the water, all your bot's electronics short and you get eliminated.  It also features a vertical spinner hazard at each edge powerful enough to fling you into the ocean if you hit them the wrong way.  They lie flat with the floor when hazards are off to make a perfectly flat fighting space if you don't like them.

You can get the gmf exporter plugin from here:

http://www.robotarena.com/exporter/index.htm

Good luck making custom stuff.

Firebeetle tried the cannon thing before, only he was trying to make a multibot instead of a detachable part, but it's the same concept.  It didn't work very well, and there would also be no way to make a cannon that only fires once.

Sorry if we all sound so pessimistic and always shooting down ideas.  RA2 has a lot of limitations.  BUT FB may have an idea on how to make a slam cam now...

Yes, those are some good pictures.  I think I can get started on it now... maybe not the newest version of Bulldog Breed (I'm assuming the newest version is the one in the bottom 2 pics that I posted, but I could be wrong) but it looks like there are only little differences between it and the version you posted, so it shouldn't matter much.

I've heard a lot of requests for this bot, so I was going to attempt making it for DSL. But I'm unfamiliar with the bot (it's a UK bot), and after much Googling I found only 3 pictures of it:

The first one is good but it's an old version. The other 2 are hardly enough to make a good replica out of (I need more angles and clearer pictures). So if anyone here is familiar with the bot and knows where to find some good pictures of it, please post them here.

Notice I posted this thread in ideas, because Bulldog Breed is still just an idea - if I can't find out what the bot looks like, I won't be able to make it!

Time for another one.  For those of you that are wanting to see something other than new AI bots by now, never fear!  Pretty soon (maybe next week) I'll be posting something different.  What it will be is a surprise.

For now here's The Good Ol' Boys' new heavyweight, Grisly Bear.  With a dustpan-like shape and four claws coming from all directions, it can give a serious bear hug to its opponents.  The bear claws were balanced with the rest of the weapons and will be available as cheatbot2 components in DSL 2.0.

I don't quite understand what you mean.  Would you have a mega adapter with a motor with power of 0 on it, and that's it?

In any case, it wouldn't be a good idea to use a mega adapter because then it could be used for stuff other than detachables.  DSL is supposed to be realistic and the mega adapter is a cheat component meant for goofing around with weird, unrealistic concepts.

I also tried making an unpowered steering unit, and I did it, but it didn't work :(   It was a 90 degree limited servo which you could attach motors to, but when you moved the servo so the wheels were turned, the bot still drove straight for some reason.  So most likely the best you can hope for is the stock steering unit, unfortunately.

Sneak Peek of the Week:

Blood Runner, sequel to Mud Runner.  Blood Runner has a Kumite-style design, with a small vertical spinning weapon that is still deadly if the other bot gets under it.  It also has a unique chassis divided into 2 halves (no, they can't rotate like Flexy Flyer, unfortunately) and a nice offroad 4 wheel drive system like Mud Runner.  It's not one of the tough bots becuase of the exposed chassis and wheels (even after the HP of mud tires was increased), but it adds some variety to the selection of AI bots.

That's so if it gets flipped, it doesn't go onto its back and it's easier to tip back on its wheels.  A srimech of sorts.

3432
Detachables can't be done, at least not how you would want them to work (it MIGHT be possible to make an arena that would cause parts to randomly fall off your bot, but that would be dumb).

The powered steering unit seems to be a popular request, probably at least the stock one will be un-hidden if a new model isn't made.  I like the idea of an unpowered steering unit though... more realistic.  And easy to do (I think... hope).

Now that the forums are back up, here's 3 more of the new AI.

PREHISTORIC
Saber Teeth, sequel to Saber Tooth, has active jaws instead of the fixed jaws of the original.  It's one of the easier bots to beat because the teeth fall off fairly easily, but against some designs it is very effective (like bots with exposed sides).

Grog, the Vengeful is the replacement for Grog, the Warrior.  This bot is the most different from the original bot; the reason for the shell spinner design instead of the traditioinal axe is because there was only one heavyweight spinner in the stock AI (Backyard Ripper) and three hammers (Grog, Raptor, and DEADBEAT), so Grog was turned into a nice, big, gnarly spinner to balance out the designs more.  He has a lot of weapons, but a slow spinup time makes Grog possible to defeat without having more weapons.

The Good Ol' Boys
Hammerhead Shark is the sequel to Cat Fish.  It looks pretty different, but it keeps the same basic chassis design (only a lot flatter) and has much more ramming power with 2 55 kg hammers.  This bot is nearly invincible head-on; you'd better be able to hit the top, bottom, or sides of HS if you hope to beat it.

I think the bot exchange was meant for bots with only stock parts and should be used for that.  Too much hassle getting a bunch of custom parts for every bot you download.

Not to say I don't appreciate your use of it... I agree this game could use some more life.

Hovering AI: Me and FB are at least planning on another AI team that may have a hoverbot in it.

Suggestions: What ACAMS said, basically.  Most of the member suggestions so far have been arenas and replicas.  Arenas and replicas take a lot of time and disk space.  There will be some new ones in DSL 2.0, but no way can all of your suggestions be made.

Sneak Peek of the Week: PREHISTORIC's lightweight rammer, Roly Poly (we couldn't think of a better name that went with the same theme, so we kept it the same).  It features the same four-wheel drive as the original, much more ramming power, and a greatly improved skin (the original was plain green).  A pretty tough opponent, although there are tougher ones.

It will be released when it's done.

Using my future sight to predict the next question that will be asked:
When will it be done?

Dunno.  It's hard to predict how long it will take to finish everything.  If it was just the new AI, I'd guess... oh... a month at most.  But of course there is other stuff too.  Most of it's supposedly done but it hasn't been uploaded so other people can test it (hint, hint).

Well, some of the stock AI bots were just so... under-weaponed that we had to add some weapons to make them any good.  Ronin, for example, and Lug Nut.  We also wanted to change the weapons on some bots for a more balanced crop of AI.  Think of it like Ankle Biter: at first it was manily a wedge bot with a little saw blade inside, but in BB season 5 it turned into a big, gnarly vertical spinner that was tons more powerful (not suggesting that Ronin is a VS now, but it could be, you'll have to wait and see).

So most of the new AI bots are very similar to the bots they were based off of, but a few are pretty different.

Here's the last bot from Red Zone.  Second Sentinel deviates a lot from the original in terms of design, but it is still a flipper.  It is so powerful that I just can't resist showing a picture of it in action, so this week you get a bonus screenshot!  SS is a very tough opponent in any arena where you can get flipped out.

Here is sneak peek bot #2.  Red Zone's middleweight RED ALERT is the sequel to ALARM.  It's a poker just like the original, but much more powerful - those are 60kg hammers on it.  From testing, I think this is going to be one of the toughest bots to beat.

Will we still have replica ai as well?

Yes, it is 6 bot teams, the first three bots being new AI and the last three being replicas.
