Batteries can determine weight distribution?
Never knew that applied to RA2, that will definitely solve my problems with Bluebird and Do-dai.

Another bot from me, once again a LW, "Mai the Slasher".

It has a decent wedge, and shares a similar chassis to Do-dai. The snowplows are configured with one multiextender attached by a flipper segment and polycarbonate extenders. However, because the extenders are polycarbonate, if Mai is hit from behind or above, Mai runs the risk of losing one or even both snow plows. In typical takatsukiyayoi fashion, Mai also sports the weakest armor of all- 1 mm plastic. Also, Mai's behavior when attacking vertical spinners can be described as rather 'jumpy': Mai will bounce backwards on impact with a disc/saw, giving the rival a perfect chance to completely violate Mai. Ninja Assassin and to a lesser extent, BOT-205 are the ones most likely to do this...

Rumor has it that Mai has managed to rip off BOT-205's motor with only a single hit, but it has only happened once.

[size=-2]
Technical Data:
4 Ant Batteries
2WD TWM3R (Drive)
Mini Wheels
Weapon: Two Samurai swords powered by a BSG-200 burst motor
247.9 kgs
1mm plastic chassis armor
Hit range: 10~250
Biggest hit: 600+

Main points:
+ decent wedge
+ wide frontal protection
+ adequate power
+ has a srimech
... motors
... wheel choice
- slow
- fragile chassis and extenders
- relies almost entirely on snowplows for stability

If that's DSA I'm seeing, you need to change it. Even the 1 mm plastic armor is superior, if I remember correctly.

That's all right; given that the next BBEANS seems to be DSL LWs (something I love making), I can always enter next time.

Discussion / Metal hinge
« on: March 17, 2009, 04:39:24 PM »
Even though they make pretty good wedges, they are way heavier (7 kgs, I think?) than the skirt hinges, which have far more use than the metal ones. You can't adjust for example the angle of the metal hinges, whereas with the skirt hinges you can. Also, less mounting points FTL.

What is actually wrong with it? Such as, what happens that makes you hate it so much.

I treat all my bots with the same hatred.
It suffers from the same problems as all of my other bots.
It only takes a few nice hits before it dies.

A wammer? (wedged rammer)
I'd use razors and hypno wheels. My best LW is a wammer and uses them (wedge is inferior to yours though)

I had used razors before switching to the irons, but their durability is bad for my driving. I play very aggressively. Also, hypno wheels might reduce/takeaway the invertability I loved in my older build of Do-dai (a small box with the same drive and batt setup, but without wedges, with titanium extenders + irons and WAY stronger armor- 10 mm plastic!!!)

Another LW robot from me, "Do-Dai", but I should of called it "POS".
Is it a wedge? A pop-up? A rammer? No...

It's a worthless piece of s***! Yeah, it can get under Slashback and Scout, so what, anything with the hinges and a small wedge/emergency flipper could do it, too. But what's the point in a nice wedge if your weapons are worthless!?

247.3 weight / 4 ant batts / 3 mm plastic armor

Less annoying? I don't get it... some kind of inside joke from the forum or something?

From the junkyard of 765 Destruction Co. rises another lightweight.
"Blue Bird", a LW dual-saw with an OK wedge. It can get under SCOUT fairly well. It's quite unstable when turning at speed. Weighs 247.4, but I'm not sure what I can spend those last 1.2 kgs on :/. Anyways, if the bot gets under someone and pins them, the bot can do very nice damage, but it can't take more than two or three well-placed hits. I was heavily inspired by one of MikeNCR's saw bots and BOT-205. If you look carefully, there are 4 ant batts, not two.

Edit: This bot is actually invertible, but the saws must be driving, or else it won't move.

Pros: Decent damage / wedge
Cons: Flips on it's side easily / Very bad armor / No self-righting

Your chassis looks quite high and you could do with much reduced space in the chassis, to reduce the weight so you could put more/stronger weapons, chassis armor, or external armor etc...

I probably wasn't clear enough, trying again:
AW/SHW/BW bots for AI teams (Red Zone, Team Spark, etc...)

Hi,

With the sound of the "unofficial" weight classes (BW/AW/SHW) becoming official for DSL 3.0, I wonder if there might be rival BW/AW/SHW bots with the "theme" of the original stock bot teams? It could be pretty cool, although if this isn't in DSL 3.0, that's okay, too.

Yeah, the weapons touch the ground when I spin up the weapon motors, so the bot becomes very unstable when attacking or driving very quickly. Maybe I should use drums and "beater bars" instead of drums+spike and ninja star?

Reviving the topic from the dead, here's another one of my lightweights: "NARROW LO@D". It's very obviously inspired by the style of WIIDE LOAD, but it's adapted to lightweight classes. This bot also happens to take a page from Ninja Assassin...

New builder here, and probably not a very good one (yet?). I've only had the game for about three weeks, running DSL mod only one week. So, you're going to see a whole lot of bots that'll probably get turned into scrap in about 5 seconds.

My personal preference is to try to build reasonably realistic bots. Therefore, I don't know anything about glitches that could allow me to make uberpowerful bots.

So here's my first DSL bot, "RECORD BREAKER" (because of how easily it can be killed):

It's durability is horrific even though I've used 1mm titanium armour. If the weapon isn't "in use" (in other words, me holding on the buttons to operate the weapon), the bot can _barely_ even move. Basically, that means I have to rely on bots getting close to my bot so it can fly around (by using the weapon like some sort of helicopter blade... o_O).

Modifications / Hardest stock AI bot?
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:35:27 AM »
If you have a fast bot with a very strong weapon (I prefer hammers/battle axes), Coal Miner is almost nothing. He can get taken down in a few hits, just try to drive with strategy and not going "LEEROY JENKINS" on him.

Iceberg is very big, so generally I'm sure spikes/ramming to his side or rear will kill him. Of course, if you can build a better "hammer"-type weapon that works too.

Of the "standard" bots I would have to say that all of "Team Spark"'s robots are very hard in their weight classes (JACKPOT, The Boxer, EMERGENCY). Raptor of the RIOT team is hard, if your bot can't move as quickly as him. Ronin was the most annoying for me... I barely land a hit on him.
