The new Beater Bar components in DSL 2.0 (seen on WIIDE LOAD and True Love's drums) can easily be used for an eggbeater weapon. You just stick one on a disc or bar and then stack more onto that one to make a long beater arm. They're very adaptable components.
I've finally got Defy Ant's fight video from Mechwars 9 uploaded.
(3.5 MB)
Defy Ant is the one with the wedge and the offset blade.
...
Okay, it's the one with the saw blade and the bar that gets beat up. I must admit it was an exciting match though; not a disappointing loss.
I'm hoping to upgrade to 4WD in the rebuild. With better drive, Defy Ant would have stood much more of a chance of avoiding ANTI's blade and attacking those big, exposed wheels. Better armor underneath would also probably help. ANTI came this close || to hitting my Li-poly battery right through the carbon fiber baseplate, which wouldn't have ended well.
I remember that bot. I was disappointed that it didn't make it to another fight to the finish so I could see the drum again. That was back in the day when about the only other drum bot was El Diablo which, although it looks really cool, isn't all that powerful.
My favorite bot would have to be The Judge. There are plenty of fearsome spinners out there that make you put extra armor on the front of your bot, but how many hammer bots are fearsome enough to make you put on an extra 1" lexan plate to protect your top? And then The Judge just punches right through it I wonder if it will compete again after that thrashing by Super Megabyte.
I'm pretty sure everyone knows what The Judge looks like, but just in case anyone doesn't:
Somebody likes spinning flails. And for good reason; that's one of the best weapons IMO. Those bots look very good. Especially Ruiner 2.0. It's like Firebeetle's Blue Ruin, but with a slightly beefier motor and a longer bar. Battery/armor stats for any of them?
Dark Pact is cool, how it's all compact and efficient.
And that F-Bomb replica is really good for not using any custom parts. There's no mistaking what bot it's supposed to be.
The last replica to be included with DSL is done and ready to show!
For this, I chose to make ewan's featherweight Vertigo. The way it is built carries over fairly nicely to RA2. A lightweight, it has a reliable four-wheel drive train and a powerful vertical disc capable of flipping and damaging opponents.
This thread seems to have a knack for getting bumped...
I'm not sure what's inside VD 5.0 or what it's made of; the Team Think Tank site is under reconstruction at the moment. It's a tough bot though. You might try Googling... I didn't have much luck finding any info but maybe you can.
It's a little late, but here is a nice view of the new bot lab graphics.
The buttons at the top have been rearranged into a more logical order. You start at the left with chassis designing, and end at the right with naming your bot and taking a preview picture.
And as an extra bonus, you get to see a snippet of the new battery/motor electricity system. All the batteries can put out a certain amount of amps (which it says in the description) and all the motors draw a certain amount of amps (also in the description). Just make sure battery output = motor input and you won't need to worry about using too many or too few batteries. It's that simple! No more guesswork with wasting weight on unneeded batteries or running out of juice in the middle of a match.
In the future, it would be nice if you would post a new topic instead of bumping a 1.5-year old thread that has little to do with your question.
But to answer your question, there was a DSL 1.1. It fixed some glitches that were uncovered and rebalanced the motors and some weapons like the DSL bars. Even the biggest motors were little more powerful than an HP Z-tek, though, so V 1.2 was promptly developed.
I don't think 1.1 is necessary to install since it doesn't appear to be in the download database.
Beans on it, today is Friday. I was helping my dad take tree branches down to a composting site and the sneak peek totally slipped my mind. I'll have a screenshot of the new bot lab posted tomorrow.
Meanwhile, here is another picture of Darkling navigating (unsuccessfully) a mound of Fatboy wheels. If it wasn't for the lag, it probably could have done it...
I have a pretty good HW vertical spinner here, made in DSL 1.2 so you all don't have to envy its special parts. I don't know why it's taken so long for me to get around to posting it, because it's an awesome design.
Stats: 4 TWM3R drive with 4 hypno wheels, 2 PC545's + 2 red battlepacks
The pic says most of what needs to be said, but let me explain a bit. Darkling is a combination armored wedge/VS. Bots go up on the wedge and then they get hit from underneath with the blade. Due to its unique design, all the force of the blade goes into flinging the opponent; none goes into flipping Darkling and it can always get a good solid catch, making for some impressive airtime. Also, if I need to, I can turn the bot around and reverse the spinner for a more traditional vertical spinner design. And thirdly, it makes a dang good pushybot with that low armored wedge and good drive.
The name is a reference to the real-world inspiration for this bot, the Dark Forces bots Dark Pounder, Dark Pummeler, and Dark Striker.
You need to save an alpha channel in a .tga, which is like a transparency map. White=opaque black=transparent gray=semitransparent. Any good image editor like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro should be able to do it. Google for more information.
Since there are so few members of the RA2 community with real bots, and even fewer with bots heavier than a beetleweight, I thought MikeNCR's lightweight Ruiner just had to be included in DSL 2.0's replicas. The RA2 version of Ruiner is a pretty fearsome opponent with its low, angled down blade. It's a bit taller than the real bot because of RA2's chassis limitations, but otherwise stays accurate even down to the insides.
A picture of the real bot is in the "weapon heads" thread in DSL 2.0 ideas.
Easy way to find out: Open up El Diablo in the bot lab and click on the drum parts to see where they are. Remove and reattach them one by one to get a better idea.
Well I decided not to join it because I don't have enough skills to build a robot.
Nonsense. Just about anyone can build a bot. When I started building Defy Ant, the most complicated construction project I had ever attempted was a light organ in my high school electronics class. It took so long for me to make the box (a folded piece of aluminum sheet metal with a few holes cut in it) that I didn't finish it before summer.
Of course, Defy Ant hasn't won a fight yet, but that's beside the point... I did get it built (with the most advanced machining tool used being a band saw), and I had fun.
The HP and damage of the DSL bars are both upped significantly over previous settings in DSL 2.0. Your bot still benefits greatly from having weapon heads on the ends, but bare bars can actually be weapons now.
I sense a disguised way to show off your bot. I will say that that thing looks very impressive. Professional stuff there. Has it competed yet?
