Firebeetle did one better and made a bot with a hover engine and a cage like that. It trapped bots in the cage, then lifted off with the hover engine to take them to the ceiling. Then the bottom of the cage opened, and the bots take a little tumble
But for a non-cheatbot2 bot, that thing's pretty good and definitely creative.

Use apanx's exporter to see all the txt files the bot uses and find the ones you don't have. Then either d/l them or make them. It works beautifully

Many of the old components were totally overhauled for 2.0. I think most, if not all of those attach point problems are fixed.
I do wonder how you attached the Nightmare disc. I can click on it and I can load Nightmare, but try to attach the disc to something and the game craps out. If that didn't happen, I would have made it a stock part or at least a cheatbot2 part.

Nice! Haven't seen a mini-drum design like that yet. The drive is a bit lacking for a drumbot though. Drums like good drive. See if you can remove those darkcell batteries (they're not stock and the three battlepacks are enough power anyway) and use some of that extra weight for beefier drive motors.

Here's another preview... quite possibly the last one  As soon as I have time, I'm going to install DSL 2.0 on my family's other computer to make sure I didn't forget anything. Then I'm going to get beta testing started. But for now, some cool new surface layers made by Firebeetle. These make it possible to make decent skins in the bot lab. The pics are a bit outdated; that's why the new graphics aren't there. Gradients, available in red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, blue, magenta, purple, black, gray, and white, in several different styles: circle, inverted circle, square, inverted square, up, down, left, right, and half-width up, down, left, right. Lots of choices for neat in-botlab skinning. Tint your current chassis color red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, blue, magenta, purple, black, gray, or white with these nifty color tint surface layers.

I thought you had 3DSM, Megabyte.
Well anyway...
Here are the other 3 Rookies bots you'll be able to drive in DSL 2.0.
LW - Sting Ray 2: A total design overhaul from the original Sting Ray. SR2 is a thwacker running on NPC-T64's, giving it good speed but keeping it controllable. It also makes an effective pushybot with its front skirts. Big, shiny, angled wheels and a wickedly curved tail make it one of the coolest bots in the team.
MW - BOT-CHOY 2: How many people, when they first got RA2 and saw BOT-CHOY in the Rookies team, thought, "OMG AWESOME A BOT WITH DIESECTOR JAWS!!!!" and then tried it out and were like, "Oh..."? Well, no more. BOT-CHOY 2's upper spike strip is on a T-Minus Snapper, and can be used for flipping and crushing, much like Diesector. Its armored, wedgy design and tough 4-wheel drive enable it to bully around almost any bot. Probably the toughest new Rookies bot.
HW - Walrus: Walrus has been upgraded to a full 800-kg heavyweight, instead of a MW ballasted into the HW class. It features some powerful E-tek drive, a huge pneumatic ram with 8 spiked clubs, and some heavy 5 mm steel armor with several additional armor plates over it. If the ram fails, Walrus also has a fairly effective rear wedge for getting under opponents and pushing them into hazards.

Sir Killalot's treads are there, they're just hidden. This is because they're pretty useless except on Sir Killalot.
You can use Sir Killalot simply by importing it into a team. You'll need full DSL though.
The create new team crash is a common problem. It means you didn't install DSL correctly. Extract the files to a temporary folder first, then copy/paste them into your Robot Arena folder.

It's fun messing with the stock AI. I once took BOT-204's chassis and rebuilt it into a big, gnarly 800 kg heavyweight vertical spinner, just to show how unnecessarily huge the stock AI's chassises are. You can make a HW from a LW The stock AI are gonna have their revenge in DSL 2.0 though...

That missing bracket at the end of your name is suspicious. Have you changed your multiplayer name recently? Try opening RA2.cfg (in your main RA2 folder) and find the line where it has your multiplayer name. If there's anything weird like spaces after it or something, get rid of them.

Eggbeaters are less durable because you can rip them off all in one piece. Drums, on the other hand, have teeth that you have to rip off individually. There's really nothing to be done about it. As for when it's coming out... Uh, let's see... Replicas: done. AI: done. Graphics: done. Rookies bots: done. DSL 2.0 beta version: DONE.So, yeah... basically this thing is ready to be zipped up and hosted for beta testers I just need to find out how goose is doing with his py stuff, whether it's going to make it in. If it's still a ways away from being finished, DSL has been postponed long enough; it will have to wait for a patch later on. Edit: goose, respond to the thread in the DSL team board.

Does this always happen, or was it just a one-time thing?
Only thing I can think of is that the multiplayer gib files might be corrupted. If you still have stock RA2 installed, try copying the mp gib files from there to DSL.

Preview time!
All the stock AI teams have been upgraded, so I thought to myself, the Rookies team should be upgraded too. These bots aren't built to be all-pwninating invincibots, just example bots demonstrating good building techniques (like using a small-as-possible chassis and not wasting any weight, unlike the original Rookies bots). Even so, they are good enough to be competitive against the new AI.
I also haven't forgotten the "coolest bot contest" that was held after DSL 1.0 was released, where the winner's bot was promised to be included in the Rookies team in DSL 2.0. That bot was IVIustang's All Terrain Train, so it is replacing Atom Smasher in the new Rookies.
MW - C.R.U.S.H.: A fast hammer bot with 4 Magmotors for drive, a small JX burst for the weapon, 3mm titanium armor, and extra bottom armor.
MW - Forkie: Servos don't work for lifting arms for some reason, so the new Forkie has a flipper powered by a large JX burst. It has 2 Magmotors for drive and 5mm plastic armor.
HW - All Terrain Train: It can't fight very well, but ATT can climb over most anything with its suspension wheels. With a little motor upgrade, it's king of the stunt arena.

Ooo, nice bot. I like the paint job and the roundish chassis. Not a plain silver box. If you had that picture on the BuildersDB when I was looking for replica ideas a while back, I probably would have made it. Even so, Primus might be a for-fun project after DSL.
Eggbeaters are very easy to make in DSL 2.0, and very effective weapons. Much more powerful than drums, although less durable. I'll see if I can get an example posted.

That ANTI sure has a good motor for that saw blade, you could get one like that for your weapon. Yeah... if I had an extra $120 or so laying about for motor + new speed controller, then I could. But I don't, so I'll probably go with a motor similar to what I had before if I can't fix this one. MV: Ever seen MC Pee Pants? That's one of it's less impressive showings, but it's the only good video I could find quickly.

Apollyon isn't a real bot yet. It could be dramatically changed or even abandoned before it's built. So, no DSL for Apollyon yet, even if there were room/time for more replicas.
But Apollyon does look like a good design. More wedges should have spikes at the top, it looks cool and it's very effective.
At least Ruiner did better than Defy Ant. It did some good damage and won a fight, and against some very stiff competition.

Since you apparently know something about CFZ's and txt files, here's any easy way to get smart zones. Decompile Components.cfz, and find smartzone1.txt. Copy/paste it into your Components folder. (Recompiling the cfz won't work because you can't compile styles; at least I've never gotten it to work.) Edit the copied smartzone1.txt and change hidden = 1 to hidden = 0 (or hidden = 2 if you want it to be cheatbot2).
It is possible to make AI bots with multiple weapons each with their own smart zone (Topknot II has a total of 6 - one for each axe, one for all four, and one for spinning) but you need to make custom AI bindings.
For the white components, decompile the .gmf and find the file name for the skin. Make sure this matches the file in the maps folder. If it doesn't, change it.

The bot lab button has always been there... you probably just haven't noticed it because double-clicking is so much easier. It's funny, Firebeetle thought that button was new too when he saw it.
Did you know there's a "Continue" button on the Select Team screen too?

Nope, I use 100% Notepad. Although recently I've figured out how to use Excel as a sort of poor man's 3DSM. Anyways here is a preview of the fancy new Team HQ graphics.

It will be a lot simpler than that in DSL 2.0. Just enter cheatbot2, and all those crazy, sometimes useless replica parts are yours (but not the ones that crash the game, so it's safe to click on blank spaces). This is so players can use them without modding the game, while still keeping the cheat components separate from the stock components.

They're talking about the preview picture the game uses for your bot, the one where you click the camera button. There is a way to make custom in-game previews, but you need Dummy's picture editor program and some kind of program that can save .tga's.
Also yes, loading the test garage doesn't affect the bg color. If it did, then it would always be black because the test garage has black sky.
