You really like thinking ahead, don't you.  Those are all awesome-looking designs

For ideas, there's a really interesting discussion going on in the RFL forums right now about solenoid-powered hammers.  Making one of those in the 30 lb class would be cool, since I don't know if there even are any 30 lb hammer bots.

2 new 2.0 bots!

Microfuge 2 - LW
Astroflight drive
1 mm aluminum armor
Dual mag weapon motor
1 PC545 battery

Pretty basic horizontal flail spinner.  Much improved over the first Microfuge, with a longer-lasting battery and 2 extra flails.  By far my most powerful LW.  Its only weakness is the weapon's tendency to tilt at an angle after a hit, leaving the bot immobile for a brief time.

Bar Code - HW
NPC-T64 drive
3 mm titanium armor
4 PC625 batteries + 1 battlepack

A vertical bar spinner with some pretty insane power.  Plenty of big batteries make sure the dual Perm gearbox gets full power, and when it's spinning two 60 kg hammers it can chuck other HW's like nobody's business.  Its only weaknesses are its non-invertibility and somewhat slow drive.  The design could probably be improved upon; it was originally a test for the DP gearbox, but it turned out fairly competitive.

Maybe you should just wait for version 2.0.  I have the final version uploaded, goose just needs to put it in the download database

I made a bot once in stock RA2 that used all 9 control spots.  But yeah, it's not often you need that many.

Besides I don't think what you're suggesting is possible.

Well-built flippers are some of the most exciting bots.

THIS is not boring.

I used to agree that flipping was a cheap way to win.  But now most bots are invertible/self-rightable.  And it's really not much cheaper than hitting a bot with a spinner, flipping the kill switch or something, and leaving it for dead.

I agree that Battlebots were, on average, more destructive/effective than Robot Wars bots.  The RW bots were more creative and artful.

But really there is no point to arguing about it, and certainly no point in saying RW bots sucked.  All robot combat tournaments are a good thing... we need more of them!

No, the 1628 error happens when you try patching the 1.2 version.

runnung that program youre meant to run

What program is that?  If it's DownloadVersionPatch.bat, and you have the CD version of RA2, that could be your problem.

You mean like if there's a double knockout, the player with more points wins?  Man I wish that was possible.  But alas, it would require the source code for the exe and someone really good at programming.

Nice skins on those bots.  I don't remember those being there.

Edit: moved to Showcase forum.

Now that is a great bot.  I bet it takes a really long time to load though.  I made a Centrifuge 2 once that was similar to that bot, but it took waaaay too long to load so I deleted it.

What's the drive and batteries?

I don't think you do.  Making all those would delay DSL 2.0's release several weeks.

The only thing that will be added to DSL now is Firebeetle's new rammer AI.  It's just too good not to throw in at the last minute.  Rammers can actually FIGHT instead of blundering around, drunkenly backing into hazards and bots.

Clicky, could you make a fix for nVidia users that has 60 3 bot teams and the interface fix? I will not get it if the graphics will glitch. And I mean that. If you do make a fix, what will the release date be?

I was going to try, but I can't guarantee any results, since I won't know what I'm doing and without an nVidia 6000 card, I won't be able to see if it works until it is released.

Someone else with an nVidia 6000 card might be better cut out for the job.

I will make a downloaded version; I just meant that I would make it later and DL users would have to wait if I didn't get the stuff I need.

That was assuming I would be able to make the downloaded version... but almost nobody replied to my thread, and the people I've contacted said they'd do it but are taking a ridiculously long time to get the info to me.

If I don't get that UI info within a few days then I'll just not make a downloaded version!

3256
Omniwheels strung into a tread?  Yeah, that would be complicated.  I assume you're not going to actually try and make that bot.

Nice cad by the way.

Go to http://www.gametechmods.com/rfshq/pafiledb and get the anti-ballasts.  Put them on your bot, add components, then remove the anti-ballasts.  Your bot will be overweight.

Discussion / CD vs. Downloaded RA2
« on: July 15, 2006, 08:21:44 PM »
I have the first beta of DSL 2.0 uploaded and some beta testers have been notified (if you haven't been and want to, don't worry; more may be chosen).  But, so far it only works with the CD version of RA2.  I need to make another downloaded version.

I know the difference between CD and Downloaded RA2 is the UI folders and files, but I don't know exactly how they are different.  I need to know the names of all the UI folders and files in the DL version.  Any help anyone can provide will be much appreciated.  You will be helping make DSL 2.0 available to DL RA2 users!

I try to avoid excessively stacking parts in my stock RA2 bots.  I like my designs to be as realistic as possible, but still competitive.  Drumblebee for example, could be built in real life.  Not exactly how it's built in the game, but you could get it looking and performing the same.  Perhaps that's why I haven't built many horizontal spinners since joining the forums... too hard to make them realistic and competitive.

Hate to point this out, but if "pure stock" means "can it be built in real life" then Heavy Duty isn't pure stock.  The spinners go through the wheels, an impossibility in real life.

Good bot for someone just starting.  Suggestions: Upgrade the weapon motors to HP Z-teks and scoot them forward a bit; you have the weight.  Also use iron spikes instead of pole spikes (pole spikes only do damage with the tip, but iron spikes do damage in every direction).  Then that bot will truly be a formidable opponent.
