It looks like you're missing the updated botlabwin.gib. In the downloaded version, that would be teamhq/skull1.tga.

Discussion / (Least) Favorite AI bot« on: September 06, 2006, 05:01:46 PM »
That's right, post what your favorite/least favorite new AI bots are, based on looks, difficulty, originality, or anything.
My favorite new bot is True Love, because it looks just like something you could build in real life, and it's got one of the coolest skins out of all the bots. Least favorite bot is probably Cranky Spanky, because 1. The flipper/hammer combo doesn't really work how I wanted it to. 2. I couldn't think of a better name. 3. It's so hard to kill! 3203

Two words: More batteries.
That's barely enough to power a LW, let alone a HW. Either shrink the chassis or downgrade the armor (who needs armor on a spinner anyway) or both to get more battery weight. Other than that it looks like an excellent bot, although that design is getting unoriginal pretty fast. 3204

OK everybody try this:
Complete DSL graphics for downloaded version. I think it will work, but with no way to test it I'm not 100% sure. I recommend making a backup copy of your UI folder, just in case. If it works, then I'll put that in a complete DSL 2.0 download version. 3205
Discussion / Do you play the Remakes or the Replicas?« on: September 06, 2006, 04:28:37 PM »
The remakes are more challenging, and use all stock DSL parts, so I fight them more.

Very nice bots. It's pretty amazing how small you can get your heavyweights.
Collector could be a beetle if you downgraded the armor just a bit. Then it might be better. 3208

I think that one beats FB's SHW.
Although I do like Gigantuan for its simplicity. Oh, and welcome back. 3209

The only thing we have to fear is... Fear Itself!
![]() Fear Itself is an attempt at a Complete Control-style lifter. It sort of works: it can pick up and drop bots just like Complete Control, but it only has enough power to do so when it's driving forward, and only against certain opponents. Even against bots it can't lift, though, it makes a decent hammer bot with that Robot X spike on a BSG, and a pretty good pushybot too. Fast NPC-T64 drive, 3mm plastic armor, 2 PC545 batteries. Exactly 399.0 kgs. I think I'll make a HW version with a Beta burst powering the flipper. That'll probably have enough torque to lift any opponent. 3210

Yeah, it looks like that's how the files are different. So making the graphics work for the DL version is a matter of moving and renaming files.
From those files you uploaded, I've also found out: teamhq/event_calendar.tga = teamhq/hq_history.gib botlab/ctrl_button_props.gib = teamhq/hq_robots.gib botlab/ctrl_analog_props.gib = botlab/crossing_wires.tga botlab/ctrl_switch_props.gib = botlab/mouse_azr.tga teamhq/roboticsteam.tga = teamhq/event_winner.gib botlab/botlabwin.gib = botlab/colorpicker_target.tga botlab/comp_preview.gib = botlab/importbot.gib botlab/AP_box_selected.gmf = botlab/armor_aluminum.tga botlab/AP_box_unselected.gmf = botlab/control_cell.gib botlab/control_cell.gib = teamhq/bot_cell.gib botlab/testarena.gib = botlab/export_texture.gib teamhq/teamhq.gib = botlab/supershine.tga botlab/wiring_controller.tga = botlab/chassis_structure1.gib botlab/components.gib = botlab/comp_adjust.tga botlab/wiring.gib = botlab/armor_titanium.tga botlab/wiring_connection_analog.gib = teamhq/eventcell.gib botlab/wiring_connection_switch.gib = botlab/wiring_connection_button.gib Man, this is complicated. But fortunately, it looks like only the teamhq and botlab folders are messed up. If you could zip up your teamhq and botlab folders and host them, I could probably get the download version graphics working. It would just be a lot of complicated detective work. 3211

What the

But your game is messed up isn't it? editteam.gib would have been replaced with the CD version, but skull1.tga wasn't. So so far it fits.
Anyone else want to confirm this? The files I've found with switched content are these. Apparently the relationships are only one way: while teamhq/editteam.gib has the contents of botlab/heading_arrow.gmf, botlab/heading_arrow.gmf doesn't have the contents of teamhq/editteam.gib. It has the contents of botlab/wiring.gib. teamhq/editteam.gib = botlab/heading_arrow.gmf teamhq/hq_events.gib = event_calendar.tga teamhq/nobot_cell.gib = botlab/ctrl_button_props.gib teamhq/bot_cell.gib = botlab/ctrl_analog_props.gib teamhq/eventcell_inprogress.gib = botlab/ctrl_switch_props.gib teamhq/team_cell.gib = teamhq/roboticsteam.tga teamhq/skull1.tga = botlab/botlabwin.gib teamhq/skull100.tga = botlab/comp_preview.gib botlab/adjust_burst.gib = either botlab/AP_box_selected.gmf or botlab/AP_box_unselected.gmf botlab/AP_box_unselected_txt.gmf = botlab/control_cell.gib botlab/armor_plastic.tga = botlab/testarena.gib botlab/ch_stepbuttons.gib = teamhq/teamhq.gib botlab/colorpicker_target.tga = botlab/wiring_controller.tga botlab/comp_properties.gib = botlab/components.gib botlab/heading_arrow.gmf = botlab/wiring.gib botlab/heading_arrow_txt.gmf = botlab/wiring_connection_analog.gib botlab/importbot.gib = botlab/wiring_connection_switch.gib botlab/surfacelayer.gib = either botlab/AP_box_selected.gmf or botlab/AP_box_unselected.gmf I think this might be it. It would explain why there were no differences with Ham's UI files, and why using the regular graphics on the downloaded version crashes the game. If so the DL version is seriously messed up! You can't even open any of those files without renaming them. So yeah... I'd like someone with a working downloaded version to have a look at some of those switched files and see if they match my findings. 3214

I got the downloaded version of DSL 1.0 to see if I could find what was different with the graphics, and I found something exceedingly strange.
The contents of some of the files are switched around. For example, in the teamhq folder, if you open up editteam.gib, it's really one of the skull tga's. And if you open up the skulls, they're really .gib files even though they have a .tga extension. If anyone with the downloaded version wants to help get DSL 2.0 with graphics out for their game, do me a favor and open editteam.gib or skull1.tga, and post here if the contents are all goofy (if they are, editteam.gib should look like a bunch of gibberish, and skull1.tga should look like an orderly set of parameters). I'm not sure this is it, because I can't see how the files could work with different extensions, but it's worth looking into just in case. 3215

Whoa, those bots have gotta be on the verge of uncontrollable. A HW with 4 E-tek drive and a MW with 2 E-teks. I bet that rammer does a lot of damage if you can get a good hit though
![]() For the battery issue on Gay Streaker var2, you can just use different batteries, like 2 PC545's or 3 Battlepacks. Or one PC625 and a Battlepack. I can't think of any way you can make it look cool though. It's hard with such a tall, boxy chassis and not a lot of extra weight. 3216

Good idea. Ordering by color does seem more logical. I'll do that for the 2.1 patch.

A LW Perm-powered vertical spinner would be cool. You should definitely do that.
Congrats on being the first person to showcase a DSL 2.0 bot that's not a spinner! Nice design there, but I wonder if it would be more effective with different weapons such as hammers. It would also be really nice if you could somehow make it invertible. 3220
General Support / a short question about internet games« on: August 28, 2006, 09:52:48 PM »
Apparently, some of the components aren't marked as standard=1.
In the DSL 2.1 patch, I'll probably include an ra2.cfg that allows custom parts in multiplayer to fix this. |
