HUH???      Naw, I just did not want them to know who sent it in, and vote on the bot it'self!
Hehe... :p .  Nicely said.

4 is cool.
5 is my vote for ingenuity.
(T'would be nice to see some of these bots in action...)

BTW: You guys can 'guess' away at the contributors, but really shouldn't be 'divulging your entries' till the voting is done.

If the py is in the 'Arenas' folder, then it WILL display it for selection...(unless there is a bug/defect in the py, then the game will not load it).
Check:
-Is there an error in the py (did you or another edit them)?
-Are you in the right Robot Arena 2 directory (if there are more than one)?
-Are you checking in the right arena Section 'in game' for a specific arena?

It has "def InvertHandler(self):" for weapon trigger names 'Fire1', 'Fire2', 'Fire3', 'Fire4'.

The arena.py does for arenas, some of what a component.txt does for components; it makes it available for selection 'in-game'.
If you have a txt (but no actual gmf component), it will still make a box for it (even with no preview); but select it and 'crash'.
If you have an arena.py in the 'Arenas' folder, it will also make it show up for an option to choose.  So if the pys were in the right folder, they WILL be displayed for selection.

So what Badnik is suggesting is not bad advice at all to check; in fact probably is (at least part of) the issue.

Nice sleuthing, Badnik...

Beat me... Yea, as described above.  Schematic says it all.
Relays enable little switches (like an RC receiver) to handle big loads (i.e. drive/weapon motor).
I hooked up a 1000w DC/AC inverter on my van; used a large relay/selenoid to handle the switching under load.  Alternator struggled sometimes. Mean use was only around 150w.... Chevy Astro. 4.3 Vortec.

STC, if your Bindings.py or an AI.py is not right, the game will most likely not even start up.
So you might check your py files...

Jonzu, I'm taking an hour out of my work routine to help you out. Please just read and think this through and I think you'll be glad you did. You can escape in fiction if you want to, but I hope your mum is more important than that...
Your mum is probably frustrated and overwhelmed, and she's venting in non-related places (displacement).  Some Physics of Psychology: If you think of people as organized 'systems' it's easier to understand people.  But, there's also the not-so-good fact that all 'systems' fall apart (increasing entropy), which means that we and everything around us are really 'dying' systems,... and we can accelerate the process for ourselves, and others,... but we cannot stop it.
When we expend energy (do work) to accomplish an objective, if we are successful then our expended energy was utilized efficiently and there is little by-product.  Just like a fine-tuned Chevy engine(no bias here) that has all its cylinders firing rightly, will produce little emissions, because the energy is being utilized efficiently.
But if you pull 2-3 sparkplug wires off, then the expended energy is not efficiently utilized, and it produces a proportionate amount of by-product that will be vented.  It has a low investment/return ratio.  So it is when we invest energy into things, and get little, or no return; the energy was not efficiently utilized and that produces by-product that we will tend to vent on the 'source of the frustration', or perhaps 'displace' onto other things/people around us.

(Note: I'm not saying we're all 'stuck' with functioning like this, but merely pointing out that this is what we usually do in our ignorance.)

Your part, Jonzu: Your mum is striving to deal with the chaos in her life.  You should make sure that you are not 'adding' to her load, by being bratty, self-centered, out-of-touch, or any other form of immaturity.  But rather instead of 'escaping problems' (leaving more to your mom and being a load yourself), start staying in touch, and contributing to the work needed to deal with things as you're presently able.  Help out at home, do well in school, offer to do work that is needed to be a contributor
This will lighten the load for your mum, and help you grow up as an asset to family/society instead of a liability. And your own capacity to deal with real problems will increase proportionate to your experiences.  And the return for this investment you will see is worth more than gold....

Pwn is right.

Heh, not only good at giving RA2 building advice...
Deep insight there, Pwn.  Few do honest introspection these days.

Specifically: When reality stinks we tend to abuse ourselves (put crap into our bodies+minds) to escape the real world and create a little a 'pretend world'. Then just like a little 'realm' we protect it with at least 'walls', but also sometimes 'armies'.
If we use 'walls' only we become introverted in relationships, keeping others at a distance so as to not disrupt my pretend refuge.  So I live in my job, or in front of a computer screen, and become a social recluse.
If I introduce 'armies' to protect this little pretend world, then I become predatorial and MUST go about stepping on others so that I 'feel' in control,.. and to gloss over the fact that I really lack 'self-control'... manifested in the facts that (a) I'm addicted, and (b) I'm scared as hell to just relate with others as 'equals' (without 'oppressing' them).
Then I contrive pat little rationalizations to justify my ways.... but would not appreciate being treated like a dog myself.

Jonzu, If you can't see what Pwn is describing, then please just keep the thought as a possibility for now....

That was a normal, maybe even short post for him! But since he's the nicest guy around, I think he should take over GTM, and I think I will GIVE it to him freely, cause he's so awesomesauce.  Well, I also really need to send him my next 3 months worth of paychecks....   I'll also look around for any LS-7s, LT-1s or 6-71s I have laying around.  *Hope he doesn't mind me giving him all my stuff.  I better make sure I don't scratch anything when I deliver it to him up in Mass..., wrapped up with bows..., this weekend...., not before 9am...*
Oh... Ok.

--------------------
Jules, biologically, HIV is an 'enveloped' virus, meaning that it's surrounded by a lipid membrane. So it has a 'shield' around it of the same type that surrounds living cells. In a prophylactic environs (bodily fluids), it can thrive. But exposure to the air causes it to oxidize very quickly (as Frezal pointed out).  So if it is to be 'transmitted', it must be well protected from the air.  This means that it must avoid the air as a medium, or if it leaves bodily protection, it must be well surrounded with a substantial mucid environs to last more than a few seconds.  In other words, HIV really needs to be transmitted without ever seeing the air.

But if the amount of fluid were substantial, then it can survive a bit longer.  Now it cannot be just 'any fluid' to sustain it as a host environs (water, coffee), but must be certain mucid fluids from the body, else it will instantly 'kill' the virus (if indeed these sets of organic molecules are 'life'.. not going there here).

Open cuts, and sores make an easier entry point, but still not likely; unless the host and receiver's points injury come into perfect, direct contact, by-passing exposure to the air.  A route of entry would be any mucous membrane or any broken skin.

Heavy kissing, though very low risk for transmission, is still something to be aware of, only because sometimes we inadvertently have bleeding in the mouth/gums, cracked lips, or a cold sore.  Just as brushing your teeth or flossing can cause slight gum bleeding, so does eating hard foods (sharp corn chips), or tough meats.  Again rare, but not to be ignorant either.

Airborne: Suppose, though, that the virus were 'sneezed into the air' (that you breathed in), or placed by touch onto 'a toilet seat' (that you sat on), or 'a cup' (that you subsequently drank from),..., it still could not survive long enough to infect you.  Not to mention that the body has a protective wall around it too, and that the virus cannot penetrate this barrier.  It would still have to find a viable mucous membrane very quickly.

So unless you had intercourse, oral sex, exchanged blood, or some other direct contact of mucus membranes with this person, then it would be very hard to believe that you could have contracted the HIV virus,... now a cold virus or flu virus is different....

Present condition:  Jules, some of your symptoms sound Psychosomatic in nature, especially due to their immediate appearance, though it's good and common sense to get everything checked out.  But the HIV virus (1) cannot incubate that quickly, and (2) even after that, it usually takes years for any phenotypical symptoms to manifest.  Here is a Dr. Osmond whose materials I've read and tend to trust because he works at UC, San Francisco:
http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/InSite-KB-ref.jsp?page=kb-03-01-04&ref=kb-03-01-04-tb-01&no=1
So, get checked out for some issue present, Jules; but HIV from this recent encounter wouldn't be the problem(s) you now have manifested...

General Support / Re: Mysterious Multiextenders
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:00:34 AM »
for some reason, my copy of the DSL version shows 2 "Multiextenders" windows in the Extenders menu.  When I delete the "multiextender" file, one of them dispppears and the other still stays.  However, when I try to change the "preview" it doesn't affect anything.

Can anyone figure out what may be causing this, I'm worried that my multiexteders are incompatible with other people's games (hence why so many of my bots crash their games)

I have the DarkPacks installed, I know there's a multiextender in that pack, could be the problem.  Does anyone know how to decompile the Dark Pack CFZ's, using uncfl doesn't seem to work.
SR(and anyone else interested), for future reference and to make it easier to find problems, here's a basic picture of this part of the game:

How it works:
-A txt causes a component 'window' to appear in the lab.
-The txt connects this 'window' to that component's folder, in which is:
      (1) the preview.bmp (which is seen as you scroll through the component 'windows'),
         and
      (2) the actual component's gmf file (if you select it).

Problem/Solution: So, if you have 2 preview windows then there are 2 txts for this component present somewhere.  Remove the unwanted one.

Locations: A txt could be in 2 places and in 2 forms: (A) as a txt (which would be in the 'Components' directory), or (B) compressed in a cfz (in the main 'Robot Arena 2' directory).

Hopefully, this info will help facilitate less dependence on others.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: General Chatter Thread

Am I allowed to be pissed off if some guy I thought was my friend is chatting up my gf behind my back, even attempting to kiss her and sending her vday cards? XD
True, Craaig, that wouldn't be real friend for sure.  But since most of us (guys) don't really understand women, here's another point to glean from this situation: It may not only be a manifestation of your 'friend', but also of your 'girlfriend',.. if she either facilitated this kind of interaction, and/or didn't immediately put a stop to it.  To many/most women 'attention' is as addictive, as 'sex' is to guys.
Because we guys don't understand women very well, we tend to be apprehensive of them; so we males usually only respond to 'cues' sent out by them when they are wanting you to pay attention to them, whether we realize it or not.

Gender dynamics usually cause a stir... hehe.

Nar, cool idea. An FBS's RPM could be calculated by tracking the bot's heading/direction to the arena, and thus it's rotations.  Then calculate, and display.

CB, Nice then.  I'll check it out....
As for my 'Evade' tactic, I've only had time to bring it to a rudimentary stage that works ok, but not sophisticated at all.  Trov took my skeletal work and fleshed it out nicely, IMHO.  I haven't talked with him in a week or two, so I don't know where he's at with it.  I'll talk with him.  Would be nice to 'evade' until your up and 'ready for battle'...

CB, I was just thinking:

1. Moding your coding to monitor the weapon(s) spin motor(s), and do not tell the bot to attack (or even some evasive tactic),...till weapons are up to speed...

2. Or monitor your opponent's weapon's motor speed,....
and if tooo hairy, head for the hills till situation improves (hits a wall, another bot,...).

Cool tweek.
Where'd you decide to put the display box?  Where the usual debug stuff displays?
Do you enter the motor # in the Bindings line so it knows which motor to monitor?
Can it do servos?

I'll try it out this weekend.  And then maybe read the directions,,, hehe.

You might expound on the 'BFE' limitations, cause that is a giant 'can of worms'...
If I can somehow help, let me know.
