Cooler than You does look very nice. I'd like it even better if it was stock though.
Can we have some stats on those Team Arachnid bots?
Beetles and ants are not arachnids by the way...

You can't edit bot files with Notepad because the preview picture and skin get corrupted when you save. (Well, you CAN edit them if you remove the preview pic and skin first, but that's kind of complicated.)
Bot files aren't actually compiled, so you don't need to decompile them.
You can use Notepad++ like eFFe said (not regular Notepad) or a hex editor like XVI32.

Well first I'd start by trying to beat the replicas (real robots). The upgraded stock AI are meant to be tougher, for veteran builders.
Also take a look at the new Rookies bots and see how they're built. No wasted space in the chassis, good armoring, usually some kind of wedge to get under opponents. Try using some of those same techniques for some killer bots.

Take a screenshot in-game with the F11 key. Then go to your Screenshots folder and open it up in some image-editing program, crop out unnecessary parts, and save it as a .jpg. Then upload it at http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.gametechmods.com/upurs or some other site. (if you only have Paint, then you can just upload the .bmp to Imageshack and it will automatically convert it to a .png)

There is always the chance that whenever I go on (like 2 minutes ago) there are no people playing, but it's unlikely. Not so unlikely as you think. Not many people play RA2 online. If you see four games up you can call it a revival of RA2. The incompatible program version comes from people who don't have the 1.2 patch. There's nothing stopping a DSL user from joining a stock game, but there might be problems when you try to use a bot

Remakes. They're easier. What?? Maybe a few replicas like M.O.E. and Hworf are tougher than the remakes, but in general I think the remakes are a lot more difficult. If they're so easy let's see a bot that can beat all opponents in its weight class. Not counting AW's and BW's because they only have one team to fight. This challenge is open to anybody; let's see what you've got.

If you are planning to make that arena as a tabletop arena under tabletop arena -section, forget it. Because the game doesn't like at any custom tabletop arenas. It crashes.
But I think there is again something hidden oddness like there was between download and cd versions of RA2. But yeah that would be nice. It would be nice to know what the game requires to be able to run those normal tabletop arenas and so if we could know we could add those hidden things to our custom tabletops too and so we could run them in the game as tabletops under tabletop section. It has to do with the edges I think. You have to somehow define where the edges are in the .py file, and then it might work. Although since you can just make it a normal arena and have it work exactly the same, figuring it out would probably be more work than it's worth.

Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth: Magmotor driive, 4 PC545 batteries, 1mm titanium armor. The goal here was just to make a huge bot with a huge drum. That drum stores a lot of KE, and because of the way it hangs below the chassis, it can hit even wedges that get under. WaGoT's weaknesses are its weak drive, weak rear armor (the front is protected by the drum and the sides are protected by those big wheels) and its instability if it loses a tooth or takes a really big hit. Strengths are invertibility and of course flipping bots like burgers.

Configure your firewall so RA2 is allowed to access the internet, or else just turn it off. This will let you join games, but if you have a router you won't be able to host.

Sounds like you don't have the 1.2 patch installed. (the official patch from robotarena.com, not DSL 1.2)
Unfortunately you have to apply that patch before installing DSL... so you'll have to reinstall it.

Okay, here is my COMPLETE UI folder and the no-cd RA2.exe. Once again this isn't guaranteed to work, so I recommend making a backup copy of your .exe and your UI folder before trying it.
Click.
Just cut/paste the files out of the folder they get extracted into, and let them overwrite everything in the RA2 folder.
What I'm attempting to do with this is essentially convert the downloaded version into the CD version, but without requiring a CD. So does this work for anyone? I'd download the trial version and try it myself, but for some reason it says I'm outside the distribution range. So somebody needs to try it, so I can make the downloaded version DSL2.

Thread cleaned. Just don't post random stuff like that again.

Whoa, those Spiderbaits are freaky. In a good way. They almost look like something spawngeek would make (a stock RA2 builder who used extenders to their maximum potential and always had a bunch of cool stuff sticking out everywhere).
Sunflower Tea is pretty unique. It's almost a face spinner, but not quite. It could use some supports on the sides though; it looks a little tipsy.
Good work on all those bots.

Middleweight version of Darkling, with an E-tek powered blade with 2 30kg hammers, Magmotor drive with hypno wheels, a PC545 battery and a Battlepack, and 3 mm aluminum armor. Darkling Larva works basically the same as the HW Darkling: scoop up bots with the low armored wedge, then hit their undersides with the blade to send them flying. Or if that doesn't work, reverse the blade and back into the opponent. Not as tough as the HW Darkling because the drive isn't as good, but it can still beat most of the AI.

Well I don't know what your problem is, but that is definitely not normal.
Out of curiosity, did you isntall DSL2 on a fresh install of RA2, or did you update DSL 1.2?

No, skull1.tga goes in the teamhq folder.
This is how it works. In the CD version, there is botlab/botlabwin.gib and teamhq/skull1.tga. In the downloaded version, botlabwin.gib is renamed to "skull1.tga" and moved to the teamhq folder, but the contents stay the same (even though it has the .tga extension, it is still a gib file). The normal skull1.tga is in turn renamed to "hq_history.gib" but with the contents remaining as a .tga file.
What I did for the downloaded version graphics is take the CD graphics and then apply all that renaming. The reason it was crashing before was because the game was reading gib files where there were supposed to be .tga's, .gmf's where there should be .gib's, etc. (Example: You get the CD graphics. skull1.tga, which is really botlabwin.gib, gets overwritten by an image called skull1.tga. So when you go to the bot lab, it tries to put a .tga where a gib goes and crashes). Doing all the renaming should have fixed it. I'll have to double check my renaming in case I made a mistake.
I wonder though... if you could just download the CD version .exe file, and then be able to use the CD version graphics. Might be worth trying. I'll upload the entire DSL CD graphics, including the ones that weren't modified, along with the .exe. If that works it could solve a lot of problems.

Do you have the 1.2 patch from robotarena.com?

Im Stupid, so what do I have to do to clear them up?
EDIT: I think I know how to fix it, you just copy the skull1.tga file into the botlab folder and rename it botlabwin.gmf, dont you? Problem is I can't change the file type. It's always a targa file, no matter what I put as the extension. It says that it's botlabwin.gib, but if you highlight it and go into properties it still says its a Targa file. Any hints on how to fix this? I could do it on my windows 98 computer, but my new XP won't let me. skull1.tga should be a gib file... I'll have to double check those UI folders ewan uploaded.

Surprisingly indeed. My LW shell spinner Kilowhirl runs off of one battlepack which doesn't last a full 3 minutes, and it only has a Perm 80 and 2 Astroflights to worry about. That bot should start slowing down within a minute.
