I should bedone with my robot tomorrow but I don't know how to AI a bot so where do I go next. You don't need to AI your bot if you don't know how. I'll AI any entries that aren't already AI'd, so you can just send the bot. Hey, CB, as DSL 2.1 has issues being installed in my Mac, can i send you a DSL 2.0 bot? I will normally only use drive Magmotors and a Perm 80. DSL2 bots are completely legal. The tournament is run on 2.1, so all the components' stats are automatically updated.

Firebeetle installed the newest version of Python and nothing happened, so it's not that.
I seem to remember something like this happening before, but I don't remember when or what the solution was.
You didn't replace python22.dll did you? It should be around 800 KB.

Isn't that just a .tga with an alpha channel for transparency?
And I've tried applying .tga skins to the chassis. I've even tried manually inserting them directly into the bot file. No luck, transparency doesn't get applied.
Also the matrix disc would look nicer if it was round, and you'll have to go into the gmf to get rid of that white edge. But I suppose it could be cool on some designs.

Another slight change to the entry rules: You can send me your entry by e-mail if you want, but you at least need to be registered on the forum so I can see your IP.
Stacking batteries wasn't allowed in BBEANS2 either. I mean, if you're allowed to stack batteries you might as well be allowed to stack motors too. It's nothing new, at least not for BBEANS.
Stacking spikes is OK I suppose. You shouldn't need to do it as much in DSL as in stock RA2 though.

Ah, a thwacker with spinning spikes on the wheels. I've thought about that design but haven't tried it. Looks like a mean bot.

Ultimatum can KO Hammer of Justice. :O
An impressive feat for a stock bot. Is there anything that bot can't beat?

Ah, I see. That makes more sense now. Cool idea. So you have to drive slowly in order to avoid getting stuck. I'm guessing that the background changing color is triggered when the bots use their unsticks.
I thought the arena was infinite at first. There's probably not enough room in a 4x4 tile space to do all those traps I had in mind. Maybe on the edges though.

Rule edit: I decided that all entries must be submitted by PM. No e-mail. This is so I can check IP addresses and discourage cheating. ill have to make a few bots then eh. i wanna win this, though i bet either you or inf will. he has really gotten the hang of dsl amazingly fast.
P.S. how did you get that mace so shiny? and did you use hexadecimal for the colors? The mace pommel on the sword has what is called a reflection map. The same thing that's on shiny hub wheels. The blade also has it but it's harder to see. To do it you need the special GMF compiler FB edited: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/robotarena.htmThen for the texture, where it says *MAP_DIFFUSE, change it to *MAP_REFLECT. Then where it says *MAP_TYPE Screen, change it to *MAP_TYPE Spherical or *MAP_TYPE Cylindrical. And that's all you need to do. Colors are always in hexadecimal as far as I know. Unless you mean whether I used a .bmp skin or not, in which case the answer is yes. Count me in. This is going to be one of a touney :D
EDIT: Are stacked batteries allowed? Stacked batteries aren't allowed with the realistic rule. You can't cut slots in batteries, or motors for that matter. A little bit of overlap on the edges is fine though.

You sure come up with some unique arena ideas. The Matrix arena is crazy! It looks like the tiles need to appear a bit earlier though, since the bots appear to get stuck in the floor occasionally.
What causes the evil face to appear, or is that just random?
What might be cool in that arena, if you're looking for coolness in complexity (which I assume you are from that fire face) is to make some of the tiles a different color, like red or green. These tiles would only appear for a short time before vanishing, so you have to quickly get off to avoid falling to your death. Or perhaps differently colored tiles could trigger some other hazard. Like the fire face.

Now that the 2.1 patch is finished, it's time for the event you've all been waiting for... Bot Battle for Eminent AutoNomous Supremacy #4RulesFirst, make sure to read the BBEANS general rules, updated 6/28/08.BBEANS4-specific RulesWeight Class: MiddleweightComponents: DSL 2.1Arena: BBEANS Tournament ArenaSpecial Rules: Realistic. Most of you are familiar with this. For those who aren't, all bots must be reasonably realistic, basically meaning that you can't have any intersecting components that couldn't intersect in real life. A blade going through an armor plate is fine, because you could cut a slot in the armor in real life. A blade going through a wheel isn't fine. For some good examples, look at the stock DSL AI and the entries for BBEANS2 ( click here). All these bots comply with the Realistic Rule. Tournament Format: Double elimination. Best 2 out of 3 matches wins. 3 minute matches. 32 entry slots. If I get much more than 32 entries, though, I might boost the bracket to 64 slots like I did for BBEANS3. EnteringRegistration is now closed.Changing Your EntryThis part is a little different from past BBEANS. If you want to change your entry to a totally different bot, you have until I AI your entry to do so. I will wait at least one week to AI bots, so you have at least that long to change it, possibly longer. If you made your own AI, then you still only get one week to change your entry. If you only want to update your bot, then you can do that as many times as you like. As long as it is the same design and can use the same AI as the previous bot, you can update it. PrizesThe Champion will receive the following weapon! Yeah, it's a sword, and it looks cool, but what are you going to do with it? Use it in the next BBEANS, that's what! This prize, and others like it, are legal for use in BBEANS tournaments! They're fairly balanced, so you don't need to worry about having an unfair advantage. But who doesn't like shiny novelty components to show off their skill? You can also use the bare sword blade, minus crossguard and pommel, if you wish. Sometimes the plain blade fits better than the whole sword. Here are some of the other prizes up for grabs: The Champion gets the Champion's Sword in addition to one other prize of their choice. The Runner-up, the Rumble winner, and each winner of each additional award gets one prize of their choice, excluding the Champion's Sword. You can give the prize components to other people if you want, but only the people who win them are allowed to use them in BBEANS. So I can't use the prize components, even though I have all of them. Just to be fair. I think that covers everything. Any questions, post them here. Ah ok. Cool. And kudos, haven't found a single glitch. But there are some of the 2.0 components that crashed on my version, along with some white spaces... Isn't there a fix to crashing DSL components? (i.e. shark tooth.) I thought that was fixed way back in the 1.2 patch. I haven't heard anyone report a crashy shark tooth in ages. Perhaps try reinstalling? son of whyachi's tribar need the supporting braces connecting the ends. i think they were red. I thought about that, but the red support bars are just too weird of a component. You can access them with cheatbot2 though.

Long story short: It's the same as making a component, except instead of attach points you have start points, and the arena will usually be made up of multiple objects (while a component is usually just one object). The arena also has 0 mass; this prevents it from moving. You can copy the .py file from another arena to make it appear in the arenas list.

Does anyone else have trouble finding opponents on Wi-fi? Every time someone in my house starts a wi-fi match, it just times out without anyone joining. Firebeetle found some opponents once, but hasn't been able to repeat it. And I know nothing is wrong with our connection because Mario Kart wi-fi works just fine. I just can't imagine that with Brawl as popular as it is, no one would be online.
Oh and my favorites... Character: King Dedede. He's powerful, has respectable jumping, and has a distance attack, even if it's usually not very powerful. Stage: Tough one... besides some of my custom stages, probably Pictochat. That one is amusing. My least favorite is New Pork City though. It's just too zoomed out most of the time to see what's going on. Song: Same as R1885, Tetris type A.

You just edit UI/common/credits.gib and add some text or images. It takes some experimenting to understand how the format works though.

Only use DSL AI packs with DSL, and stock AI packs with stock RA2.
As of now there's only one custom DSL AI pack, made by RFS. Barbie and Phlox were making one a while ago but I don't know what happened to that.

Remember folks, Sage is already doing all the work of making additional styles in dropdown menus. That means if you want your own custom skins, like a brick pattern ramplate, you just need to edit some of Sage's skins. Everything else is already there.
Probably what's best for this pack is to include some simple reskins, like the blue, yellow, and black Z-teks, and if people want something exotic like a floral pattern Supervolt, they can change one of the existing skins themselves.

Well, beta testing has been going rather slow, and no one has reported any serious problems so far, so I'm just going to call it good and release it (yay!) This community is actually probably small enough to be a beta testing group anyways... LINK IS IN THE DOWNLOADS PAGE UNDER AI PACKS https://gametechmods.com/?do=RA2_AIpacks (A version has been added for the download version of the game) Installation instructions and a summary of features is included in the readme. One important note: The 2.1 patch is a patch for DSL 2.0, not a completely new version. You DO need v2.0 installed first before installing v2.1. Just extract the zip file into a new folder and copy/paste all files into your main RA2 folder with DSL 2.0 installed. You shouldn't need to make a fresh copy of RA2, but if you have tons of non-DSL mods you still might want to just to be safe. What's in the patch: Slimbody motor is standard All weapons rebalanced to 60000 efficiency Better arena cameras Lifters are slower and less flippy; don't make pssssshhhhhh sound Replica flippers are slightly powered up Vlad the Impaler improved Attach point on Vlad spikes and PA spikes fixed Vlad spikes moved into Weapons Ocean Platform hazards are less powerful Bots are always eliminated when they fall in the ocean and get slowed down by the water Flip Test Dummy has 4 wheels WreckTangle is updated Hammer arc on The Judge slightly smaller to make it less glitchy Beta burst retraction is slightly less powerful to make it less glitchy Larger team select/import bot windows Perm collision more accurate, diagonal attach points added E-teks are flatter Astroflights, Magmotors, and E-teks have new long axle option Skirt and titanium sheet gmf's are redone to be less glitchy Extenders have more HP El Diablo crash glitch fixed Razer is more slow and crushy Biohazard, Ruiner, Tornado Mer, and Vertigo are flatter Two new replicas, Thermidor II and Apollyon New BBEANS Champions team Generic tribars have more HP Upside down attach point on BSG burst motor fixed 180 degree Beta motor is less glitchy and also has a slightly bigger swing arc Collision on NPC and TWM3 motors is more forgiving (you can now place components in the inside angle)

Oof, there's going to be some stiff competition for this one. That's a mean-looking bot. I love the chassis shape. Here's mine. Made in 2.1 but it's entirely possible to build in 2.0 too. I forgot to include the weight in the picture but it's 398.6 kgs.

As long as you're fighting stock AI you really don't have any incentive to minimize your chassis and maximize efficiency and whatnot. For stock AI, the overloaded piston rammer is a classic and effective design. Once you can beat up the stock AI easily and you start getting bored with them, then you might try getting some better AI and improving your bots.

Well it's only 4 MB, and most people already have 2.0 installed... it would be kind of a pain to have to download the whole DSL pack on a fresh RA2 all over again just for 4 MB of content. I think it might be more convenient as a separate patch.
