20 and 10 piercing is waaaay too much, even for a 100kg weapon.  If you look at the damage formula on my website (D = 183.9P + 100C)  you'll see that piercing has a much bigger effect on damage than concussion.

I would advise just setting a certain Efficiency stat that components can't exceed.  For example, all the components in DSL are balanced to 60000 efficiency.  I define efficiency as (DP*HP)/M where DP is Damage Potential, calculated by the above damage formula, HP is HP, and M is mass.  That way you combine all three stats into one number, and you can tweak the DP/HP balance however you want.

Then you just need to figure out some way to handle fracture, normals, and frequency.

You also need some way to regulate electricity drain for motors.  And the power setting for motors isn't just one "RPM" number.  It's two, one for speed and one for torque.  Perhaps set a cap on the combined maximum for both numbers.  Same with burst motors--those use three power numbers.

In conclusion, you should learn more about how components work before starting a component tournament.  There's a nice section on the txt file parameters at the beginning of my tutorial: http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/modding.htm

It's a good idea, but with so few people able to make components (and many of those who can lacking time to do so), I have doubts about how successful it would be.

Yeah I'll do that.  Eventually.  Not today.  I'm all tired out from posting the round 3 stuff.

...Wait, the round 3 stuff?  Yeah that's right, round 3 is up!  Go check the first page of this thread.

I dunno what happened to the small arena, but it's back up now.

There's not going to be a DSL 3.0 unless some major breakthrough happens, like being able to edit the exe.  And even then it would probably be called something else and not DSL, because DSL bots probably wouldn't work anymore in it.

Just Program Files/RA2-DSL?  Not Program Files/Infogrames/RA2-DSL?  Dunno if it matters, but you might try having both games in the Infogrames folder.

Is the bot still there when you boot up RA2 again, or does it get lost as soon as you exit the bot lab?  If it's still there, the only explanation must be that you're looking in the wrong folder.  Make sure you look in the folder for the version of RA2 that you're actually playing.

I never thought a simple 20 to 40 DSL bar  on a Magmotor was that powerful...

...or perhaps it's that because you put 20000 efficiency to all weapons in DSL 2.1.

The 20 to 40 segments have 300 DP and 2000 HP, same as an iron spike.  And there's two of them stacked on each end, if you look closely (not stacked as in overlapping, stacked as in on top of each other).  The straight bars have more HP but are considerably less powerful, one reason why I went with the angled version.

Meanwhile here's another new bot.

Okay, I admit it... Anathema is, shall we say, "inspired by" H@zm47's Interventionism 2.0 and infiniteinertia's Sigma.  The main difference here is that I wanted to make an Interventionism-type bot with a long enough blade so it could hit stuff without needing to get under it first, like Final Destiny.  I also wanted to make it fast, so that when it does get under bots it can push them around, and it can also back off quickly to get time to spin up.

Anathema succeeds with both of those goals.  The blade is big enough to reach beyond the skirts, but when it comes down to it Anathema also makes a good pusher.  The combination of a powerful weapon, powerful drive, wedges, very high stability, and self-righting makes it "anathema" to most bot designs.  It's good against wedges, HS's, VS's, hammers, and a few other odd designs.  The only types it really has a lot of trouble with are popups, drums, Hazardous Contraptions, and well-protected bots like BrasOuvert (ultimately I lost that fight in the pic, but not without causing a lot of damage first).

The main advantage with this bot is the size of the blade--it's so long, it always seems to sneak in hits on weak spots when you don't think it should.  That and the drive and stability.

Funny how both those bots were built by Rejected.  That guy's legacy is hard to beat.  What's next, a DSL Clockwork Hydra?

As long as they're not spinning too much weight, the Piglets could work.  I don't think 4 razor tips is too much weight.  Magmotors would definitely be better though, for lifting bots.  The only problem would be with their shape, you would need some way to protect the black motor part.

I would use lighter plows and use the extra weight for better wheels, for starters.  Then you can try to upgrade the spikes, perhaps to maces.

Hazardous Contraption's greatest strength is its drive, in my opinion.  It wouldn't be half as good if it was any slower.  For that reason I don't think Infernal Contraption will be quite as dangerous--at least it will be possible to escape from.  Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I think it would be a lot better with 4WD.

Not that it's not scary enough as is... especially when I'm entering another flail-hammer bot!  Probably also the only one.  Yay for novelty designs!

Epic Flailure has an ace up its sleeve, though... you can't see it well in the picture, but it has armor covering most of the bottom.  All it needs is a few opponents with exposed tops.

Oh, and those battle shots vs. TuniT 3 and Shebeast are with AI vs. AI.  I just fought Big Metal Friend as human to show how much damage it can do.

Your game isn't any more buggy than anyone else's, at least not in this respect.  EMERGENCY is all smashed in my game too (or was, back when I fought the stock AI) whenever I faced it in a tournament.

It sounds like you're not fully uninstalling.  Delete your DSL folder and copy the stock RA2 that works.  Then install DSL.

I just ran a quick test and I figured that the games locig is that if all bots start getting counted out at the same time, the one in the highest # sarting point wins.
Pic 1
Pic 2
With this I say that the way Smoker got counted out in round 3 was not fair.

I would agree with you, except Smoker was already missing a wheel when it got counted out, and it lost that wheel long before No Leaf Clover tipped onto its front.  If No Leaf Clover didn't keep pushing Smoker around, it would have gotten immobilized much earlier.  Based on how the fight was going, the timeout counter SHOULD have started for Smoker first (and indeed, if you look really closely, you can see that Smoker's counter changes a fraction of a second earlier than NLC's).  Smoker was also immobilized as a direct result of an action by its opponent, while No Leaf Clover just tipped over by itself once the wedge was gone.  In real life, if both bots are immobilized simultaneously, it comes down to a judges' decision for whoever mostly caused the immobilization.  In this case I have to go with No Leaf Clover.

If Smoker still had both wheels and more than half battery power, you can be sure it would get a free restart.

It has something to do with skirts and skirt hinges.  Those are just glitchy components even after I totally remade them for the 2.1 patch.  My bot Darkling did that glitch, and I found if I removed the front skirt hinge it got better.  Try using skirts not on a hinge, and/or non-skirt components on a hinge.

I tried making a MW with a heavy horizontal flail like that (inspiried by the real life bot Stump Grinder), and it didn't work so well.  The spinup time was so slow that it offset any advantage gained by flailing.  I think you need short and/or light flails in order for it to be effective.

That said, the design is cool.  I'd be worried about the exposed motors though.

The no graphics version of DSL works with the downloaded version.

Use baseplate anchors and extenders to put wheels under your chassis.

Joe, you should start a showcase for posting your bots.  This isn't the place.

That said, I think you can manage use even bigger weapons on Thumper 2.  Just for fun a while ago, I took the original and gave it a double magmotor - same weapon, same drive, same chassis, just less batteries.

That's awesome.  Gotta be the smallest weapon-to-bot size ratio ever.  Is it any good in combat?

That's actually a great weapon for a LW.  An E-tek is nothing to scoff at.  You just need to improve the drive (Astroflights would be good) and battery power.

Forget "for a first bot", that's a good bot any day of the week.  Only thing I can think of is maybe remove a battery or two (six should be plenty) and upgrade the armor.

The preview picture vs. MOE looks different.  Which version is final?

In any case, that's an awesome bot.  Like an Inertial Deathlock IV.  Looks like it improves on all of IDIII's weaknesses.

Here's a new bot based on a design that's extremely generic in real life, but pretty rare in RA2.

Betcha can't guess what real life bot this is based off of.  (I'll give you a hint: it rhymes with "Tombsbone" )

Unlike its inspiration, though, Epitaph is designed with a balance of offense and defense in mind (besides being designed ultrarealistic).  The weapon is powerful enough to KO most opponents after a minute or so, yet with 3mm Al armor and those mini saw blades protecting the wheels, it can also take a beating and keep on fighting.  The saw blades can even serve as weapons in a pinch (they've saved me more than a couple times).

The main reason I like Epitaph, though, is just the way it looks.  It looks like something you could actually build in real life down to the last detail.
